are the servers down right now?

Tried to start and it's asking me to select a server (I guessed my previous characters are gone) but I can't select anything. All are grayed out and when I click select, nothing happens. Although it shows populations as low, medium and high for the servers...

Yea, apparently all of the NA servers are down. Zann (one of the Trion devs) posted on Twitter that everyone's characters are OK though. I'll give it half an hour and check back then.

Yeah, I think we melted the servers. I was on for a bit, just enough to create a character and run around some, then I was booted.

After playing a bit, reached level 8 on a Cleric Shaman/Inquisitor/Druid...I don't know what to think...

Game is cool, fun but nothing amazing. It's kind of meh in fact (my level 8 opinion).

I don't think i'll buy the game finally but gonna give the open beta some other shots. I'll continue playing tomorrow, thursday and sunday...after that if i'm not "hooked" i'm gonna pass I guess.

Also need to find a combo of souls that will work for you. Might find some of them blah that you picked but others in the same class could hit the right buttons for ya.

Open beta is basically getting hammered from all of the new accounts being created.

They should've created a couple of extra open beta servers while leaving the rest for people who pre-ordered...

I remember the "full server" pains from SWG and old WoW days - man it sucked to have to wait in queue for up to an hour...

The class system is really cool. Lots of choices, all different...and I think they nailed the Cleric! Combat healer goodness!

It's not that, it's the general feeling of the game...don't know how to explain it really. It's a little too much like WoW...but at the same time it brings new and interesting elements to this genre.

I'm no longer in the tutorial map so I know it's not that...

I think i'll try a new toon with my favorite race in RPGs, dwarves...maybe try the Warrior calling this time.

See what you think once you hit L18 or so. That's where the game really opened up for me. Leveling to that point should only take you a couple nights of casual play (or one hardcore night ).

Yeah, the beginning is kind of blah, because you don't run into rifts, and your character is limited by the number of points you have for your talents. Also warfronts open up at lvl 10... So once you get about lvl 15 or so, you will start to have a bit more options, and you can do some pvp/rifts. The quests are there just to get you some basic gear and to help you lvl up in solo mode. But the game is just blah when you are doing that. The rifts and warfronts is when things get more fun.

Started a Bladedancer/Assassin/Riftstalker last night and that works pretty well so far. I'm able to kill pretty quickly.

Also started a Necro/Warlock and didn't care for it. I only finished the 2nd quest before giving up on that. Pyro/Elemental is way more fun and easier.

Thanks Avogadro and brandonb!

I'll keep up playing till I hit higher levels.

I started a Dwarf (which I love how they design them) Warrior. Planning to go 2H with Champion/Warlord/Beastmaster and see how it goes from there.

The thing is, I want to build this toon like the Warhammer Slayers. rushing in combat with their weapons and embrace death!!!!!!!!!!!!! Love them!

You're gonna like Champion; it's a very strong soul. I run heavy Paragon with some Champion (for stuff like Bull Rush) for PvE, and heavy Champion with a little Void Knight for PvP. Find yourself a good 2H weapon and give everyone a big helping of SMASH.

Necro/warlock is a little more difficult than Pyro/Elemental because the necro pet is a DPS pet as opposed to the elemental pets which are tank pets. You'll get hit more often as a necro/warlock, but you will be able to do more damage to groups as a necro/warlock because you have DOTs -- you can just apply DOTs to all the mobs attacking and quickly whittle them all down. You also should never have mana problems as a necro/warlock, especially in later levels since you can either lifetap your own health for mana (warlock skill) or steal life from your pet in exchange for mana (necro skill).

i have a shaman/justicar/warden that seems to work pretty well.

the marksman/ranger is pretty strong too, but needs some up close and personal attacks.

Champion/beastmaster/riftblade seems ok.

I dunno, but I seem to have more fun with caster classes in this game than melee classes. Its kind of been the opposite with previous MMOs.

I might try the Mage Calling...but some races just look awful...

You guys really need to get to like level 18ish for the game to start shining. Rifts and PvP/warfronts are in full effect, and by that time you'll have like 20ish points in your main soul, with 6? I think in your secondary souls.

That's just it, it's too dull for me to get that far into it.

About level 20 - things do start to pick up -

- You'll start to get away from the Chat Spam idiots [gets better lvl20+]
- You should have enough to buy a mount [60% faster than walking]
- You'll have more "spells" to play around with so combat is more than just a few specials.
- You'll be able to travel to the main city via teleport systems.
- If you've been running a lot of RIFT's, you'll have "rift currency" to purchase some nice gear.

It's still more of the same game - rifts, pvp, quests [grab quest, go do it, return for reward], etc.

Finally I tried a Champion/Paragon/Warlord. Working great so far. Using 2Handers uniquely and doing some nice damages.

Done some Rift too, like 5-6. I understand that with each Rift sealed, you get shards and planarites with which you can buy better items. Level 10 now...I can see myself playing a little more, but I can't wait to get "hooked" but I doubt i'll be. Per chance I tried the beta before buying...but it clearly have some really cool stuff and I heard that they'll implement more bling for launch (like more animations, etc).

But what is the Blue shard icon in the lower left side of your portrait? I'm at 3/3 from sealing rifts but what is it used for?

I did my first dungeon for the guardian. It looked nice except the part where you have to walk through a blizzard (I couldn't see shit). During the run I hit 20 but the servers just went down 10 minutes after we got done with it. Since we didn't have a tank we just used our pets on bosses while killing the adds.

Chat is interesting at least, just mention WoW and all hell breaks loose.:awe::twisted:

Those are charges for planar powers. If you hit up a Planar Goods vendor, you can spend planarite to unlock powers that help you handle rifts or invasions. One of them gives you a 100% damage buff and 75% incoming damage shield buff - vs. invasion or rift mobs only. There's another that lets you summon NPCs to help you fight rift mobs. I think there's also one that lets you heal or buff wardstones. Anyways, that's what the little icon is all about.

It definitely needs better explanation for a new player. The only reason I know about it is because that mechanic was put in with Beta 6, so was part of the patch notes.

Thanks Avogadro. It's still a little confusing though. The icon seems to be there 100% of the time and always tell me 3/3...

There's those blue stones in settlements/villages that when I pass near them they give a 30 minutes buff. But you seem to tell that you can use those 3/3 charges to use a planar power? I'll have to go buy one to see how it works. Hope it get explained in the game manual though.

Thanks again!
