I played in a tank company yesterday as a form of training. Again I fielded my 212. We did fairly well and kept the game close except the one time that the clan was too busy chatting instead of setting up/giving orders at the start of a game. It is amazing how much you NEED to have somebody in charge of the deployment.

We should have won one of our matches when we had an E-75 and me left and they had 2 tier 8 arty left. Unfortunately I was given an order to relocate and during that relocation the e-75 advanced and I could not cover immediately. He got himself killed and I counter artied and got one. Then it became a who sees who. Again I was given an order to relocate and I was shot in the side as I was trucking to the place I was told to go. It was a good spot and the only weakness was the charge to the spot... oh well!

What is really interesting in tank companies is that you can field a number of vehicles up to a certain strength (90). So you can field 9 tier 10s, or more tanks of lower tiers. Obviously you want to max the strength to 90.

Don't like arty being main firepower in random matches, don't think I want to do it in a company battle where it's for certain there will be 2-3 big arties on the other side. Pass.

Annoying enough being 2 shotted in an is-4. I like slug fests, not random nuclear missiles taking out 70% of my hp in 1 shot. Think those of you in an e-50 or e-75 will agree since those tanks take a lot more splash damage for some reason.

Fun weekend in the VK3601H

I one shot by ammo racking a T-34-85 for 100% of his health. One shot a wolverine when he went over the edge of the cliff in Al Haluf and I sent an 88mm round through his top. But the best? When I hit an E-100 for 906 damage. I didnt think it was possible to hit that hard with the 88 on the VK3601H.

how do you know how much damage you did, is there some UI mod?

and if you hit his ammo rack its likely he'll get that much damage, but I didn't think the short 88 could penetrate the e-100 from ... well, anywhere.

This is the healthbar mod I am using.

http://games.nicolasprof.com/wot-mods/overtargetmarkers

I am also using the starcraft sound pak. I love that thing when you hit somebody and it spits out a sound bite from the game.

http://forum.worldoftanks.com/index.php?/topic/52136-starcraft-voicepack/page__p__784647#entry784647

I have penetrated an E-100 before with the 88. But it usually does very little damage. I was aiming for his engine right below the back of his turret from his left side. He was sitting to me at a near perfect 90 degrees to me.

Hm, do any of you guys have issues with extreme fps drops when something is going on within the sniper view?

Depending on the map, where I'm looking, and what is going on, I generally have get anywhere from 40 something to 60 something fps. Sniper mode, with nothing going on, tends to actually improve my fps a bit. However, when there are explosions and such, sniper mode absolutely murders my fps.

Firing larger caliber guns can be enough to bring my fps down below 5. Smaller guns, like the 57mm on my T50, do nothing to my fps when fired. The 107mm on my KV-3 has a pretty strong drop when fired, and the 152mm on my KV absolutely murders it. If it is just me firing my fps recovers fairly quickly, but it really shouldn't be dropping that low in the first place.

The worst is if I enter sniper mode right as, say, an arty drops a bomb on my target. In situations like that my fps takes a big hit for several seconds at least, and right in the middle of combat as I'm preparing to fire.

I have installed the mod that removes the black circle effect from sniper mode. I didn't really see any improvement from that at all. I've tried turning various settings down a bit, but I've seen no benefit to that.

I suppose I might need to start turning things way down one my one, but generally I'm happy with the fps/graphic quality balance.

Before I resort to that, have any of you guys solved and/or heard of possible solutions to this problem?

And to answer the inevitable questions, I have a 3ghz E8400 and 8800gtx, running at 1680x1050. The 8800 is starting to get a little long in the tooth, but has yet to stumble too much with anything I've thrown at it.

Yes, there's an issue with sniper mode and FPS drop. On my laptop it is murder. On my 5870 and an overclocked i5 it's no problem.

i5 2500k at stock speeds, 8Gb ram, 1Gb HD6870... my FPS can plummet in sniper with ther smoke effect.

I have an overclocked i5-750, 8GB RAM, 2GB HD6950... and sniper mode will murder my FPS from time to time.

From what I've seen it's issues with foliage, as well as smoke/dust effects from shell impacts....

That is annoying. The only way of aiming with any accuracy really should not suffer from huge fps drops under any circumstance, barring those running with graphic settings bumped up unreasonably high for their hardware.

On an unrelated note, the Halloween special is pretty pathetic. The most expensive tank they knocked to half price is the M6, which isn't that expensive in the first place. And half price Marder II? Are you kidding me?

Not to mention bumping the credits received from directly exchanging gold. Does anybody actually do that? Any small amounts of credits needed can be ground pretty fast without spending any gold, and for larger amounts in a premium is a better choice. For long term credit production, without continued payments, a premium tank (Type 59 and Lowe, anyway) is the way to go.

I really hope they offer half-price garage slots soon. I'll probably pick up the Type 59 and a bunch of slots when they do. Or at least the garage slots - might want to play around with Russian mediums before jumping for the Type 59. But I don't have the slots for that right now.

There is a method stated on the forums (creativity section) that removes the smoke effects from the game.

Kills the immersion for me but will remove those awful FPS plummets.

DAM single threaded program on an engine that supports multiple threads.

Yeah, I saw that as I was looking around for possible solutions earlier. As bad as the fps drop is, I'm not sure it is consistently bad enough to justify replacing the smoke with a few bright squares that belong in a crudely drawn comic book next to the caption "Pop!".

Most of the time it isn't bad enough to have a serious detriment to my overall performance, except for the rare cases where I scope in right as something big happens to my target. If I find such things occurring with greater frequency as more of the team gets bigger guns perhaps I'll have to try the replacement "smoke" but for now I suppose I can live with it.

Where I notice FPS drop off in sniper mode is when my tank is in a high grassy area. The Lakeview map for example. If I go to defend the valley the grass there is high in areas. Thats when FPS will drop to less than 20fps in sniper mode. Watching a tank come up that rise can be like a slow flicker show. Normally I run 55fps - 110fps in my games depending on map and area. i5 2500k and ATI 6950 @ 1920x1200 res.

If you get a slowdown when in sniper mode, especially with an AMD card, you need a sniper mod that removes the "scope" effect and just shows a nice big screen. The geniuses that made the game use a flash file for the scope effect that causes a performance hit. I run one but I don't even know where i got it anymore.

Use generic mod enabler to make it easier to install/uninstall mods. Be sure to revert to stock before ANY patch.

I installed that awhile back, even though I have an Nvidia card. I don't recall if it generally improved my fps while in sniper mode (which tend to be higher than when I'm not, actually), but it did nothing for the dramatic slowdowns when faced with shooting/explosions.

In the upcoming patch they say they will allow you to disable the smoke effects. No need of a mod in a few more weeks!

Still seems kind of strange, unless you somehow hit a shot trap which bounced into the ammo rack. (does that happen in the current game engine?)

As for the sniper scope... I notice a huge fps drop on my laptop but not much on my desktop. Didn't realize it was a flash file.... that's all kinds of silly. So when are they planning on including multicore support?

I don't think we should expect multi-core, ever. This company can't even sync their daily resets with their promotional times.

which is actually good, because you can get in an extra day's worth of games based on what they have right now.

if you destroy the rack its instant death. AFAIK you can damage it and cause major damage still unless I'm wrong. Same with the fuel tanks I think.... not too sure.
