are there "seasons"?

don't want to get into an MMO late on a season and have everyone far, far ahead of me

i'm only interested in the clan aspect of these MMO games

To my knowledge, no. But in this game, the only thing comming in late does is dictate what tanks you can use. If you focused on a single path, you could be in a T5 in a couple days (not maxing out all the skills/equipment of a particular tank and just speed researching for the next tier tank). I've been playing for 1-2 weeks now, but I have been doing a little of everything. I spent the first few days simply playing arty, which take a very long time to train for the next level. I then one day decided to try out tank destroyers and was in a Tier 4 in less than a day of playing. For clans, you probably want to be in a maxed out 6 with 100% trained crew, which will probably take a couple weeks unless you want to train your crew with cash. Personally for tanks that I expect to use for a while, I have been simply paying for the improved crew training which started them off at 75% which costs more when you purchase the tank, but nothing out of the realm of prices.

can you elaborate just a little before i stick my head into another timesink?

Grinding is all about gaining access to higher tier tanks. If you want to do clan wars, then yes, you need the highest tier tanks and you will spend months grinding out games to get them.

If you just want to have fun, then in that same few months you could unlock pretty much every tank tier 5 or lower.

Any word on when they might next be offering half off garage slots?

Even though my Russian and American Heavy grinds are certainly better off without extra slots, I really wouldn't mind having them. I'm already up to 4x heavies, and that will probably jump up to 5 once I open up the T32, as I'll probably keep the T29 around for awhile to grab whatever upgrades I skipped while rushing for the T32.

Got my T28, about a third of the way to my 120mm gun.

It's a very nice tank, slow as molasses but very capable even with the 105mm.

In my limited experience (~30 matches) with the tank, it is my opinion that the armour is bugged and not working correctly... but I'd need to do some definitive testing on it. It seems to not bounce as much as you'd expect 250'ish mm armour to bounce... plus angled armour plus angle of approach from the shell... I just get penetrated *anywhere* on my front plate. (yes I know there are weakspots but seriously I can take penetrations from the KT's 10.5 long (225'ish average penetration) in my angled front plate at ~150m)

At the rate I am playing specific tanks, I think I will get to my obj 261 before getting my E75! It is not that I play my 212 that much but I am only playing 1 or 2 games in each of my other tanks!! Grinding up 9 lines is ridiculously long and painful at the high tiers. I have elited my Tiger P and added that to my free experience grindings with my KV and Type 59.

I also made a horrible decision... instead of going down the A20 line to the T43, I decided to cut across from the KV and purchased this dog of a tank... the KV-1S. What a freaking glass cannon. It is going to be one LONG grind to the KV-13 and then a short one to the T43 (plan to just burn free exp to bypass the 13).

I need another 5x weekend!

From what I've heard, the 13 is actually a pretty good tank - why pass it up?

I haven't played that much this week so my KT is still stock other than engine/radio... It's so frustrating to see the potential in it but not being able to really take advantage due to the crappy turret and gun. I think I only have 10 games in it so far and have already gotten 2 or 3 steel walls.

Last night finally got the last engine for my E-75. This last week I haven't been playing WoT much. That last engine really makes a difference in speed on the tank. Especially going up an incline. Its no speed buggy but a better tank for sure. It is also the same engine for the E-50. I don't play mine very much. Not a big fan of the E-50 but its faster now too.

Any hints for playing the IS effectively with the 100mm?

Granted, I haven't played many games at all in it total, and even fewer with the 100mm, but it just feels... crappy. I can't really hurt anybody that badly - although I can usually do some damage. I can't really take many shells either though. I suspect my KV-3 can take more shells than my IS from any given enemy.

If my IS is top tank I feel pretty useless. I can do alright, but rarely do I feel as effective as my KV-3 in that same position. If I'm mid-top I suppose I can help out a bit. And if I'm near the bottom I'm mostly stuck taking a few pot shots before somebody gets around to lobbing a few shells my direction, at which point the tank gives up.

I'm sure I'm playing it wrong, and probably treating it more like a KV-3 than I should, I just don't know what else to do with it. It turns a little faster and accelerates a little better than my KV-3, but that really isn't saying much. What the hell do I do with this thing?

Thought Id help out here. It is one of the best games out. The grinding is horrendous if you dont know what you are doing. You have to go premium if you are serious about grinding. Nothing else will work. At least you can keep your tanks and keep playing without premium unlike other mmo games if you choose to cancel your premium. Top tier tanks do need to be changed. I have two accounts. One premium. I lost 200k credits playing in Tank Companies with my t10 heavy (its too excessive but hopefully it will change) over a couple days (record was about 6 wins 10 losses). It was my choice. I had the credits saved from when that account was premium.

The reason to play is no wait to play. We lost a lot of clan members who were tired of the grind (for credits ). The truth is its not hard to maintain the highest tier tanks with premium account. Stay away from Tank Companies unless your group is maxed. Its Clan Wars training mostly. Grind to only one top tier tank and keep a few tier 5-6 tanks in your garage for extra credits and playing while waiting to grind for your top tank. Join a clan early. People will show you how to play (saving a lot of time). Enjoy. I used to be a RTS player, but this game really is good. They are also coming out with new game modes. From what I hear it will add hugely to the game.

Still in the game and enjoying it. I got my US T34 purchased so I'm ready for when that becomes premium. The US T32 grind was suprisingly fun. Right now I am starting the IS/IS3/IS4 grind for when the IS4 goes from tier 9 to 10.

I'm not running premium. T32 to T34 took about 15 days. Hoping to be in a IS4 by December.

How many games did it take? I think it took me just shy of 200 games with premium, but it was spread out over a longer time.

i did the same grind cutting across the KV, it wasn't bad at all, i enjoyed the kv-1s a lot once i got the biggest cannon as its pretty quick and easy to flank everyone, the kv-13 was ok, it is rather quick but i didn't keep it as i just wanted to get to the t-54 as fast as i could

348 games. All I did was Tracks / Turret / T34. Rest carried over from T29. I think I even used a little free xp to unlock Tracks since the 105 needed them.

T32 Average XP / Battle: 555
T32 Maximum XP Battle: 1428
Victory %: 53%

My start in the T32 is pretty ugly. 8 games, 1 win. I'm hitting 81% which probably isn't bad with a 75% crew. This thing plays more like the IS than the T29.

The lack of arty limits will be the death of this game. I havent had a game all weekend that didnt have at least 3 per side and it turned into a game of trying not to be insta-nuked.

When this starts happening to me I usually switch to my T-59 and go arty hunting. At least with a fast medium I have the chance to dodge shots and kill arty. Other choice is just go play another game.

Play it like a medium if possible. Look for side, rear and any vulnerable shots. Use HE when up against a well armored tank.

It's rough until you get the upgraded turret.

My start in the Tiger II has been similar to yours in the T32. About 15 games and just about a 25% win rate so far.

I have, BF3. That isnt a good thing for the game imo.

Bought a Russian T-46. Decided I wanted to experience the T-50 and the T-50-2. Been a long time since I played in a T-46. Not since Beta. Fun to play these low tiers. Should elite it easily enough today and move up to the T-50 and T-50-2. Also dusted off my T-26 and been playing that today as well. Fun times.

Maybe it's because when I originally played in open beta I started up the arty lines first, but I really don't have a problem with three arties per side. Four is pushing it, but those games are relatively uncommon.

It is just habit for me to be aware of where the arties probably are, if I'm protected from them or not, and if they have recently shot near me. That isn't to say I'm never caught off guard and never get shot by arty, but when that happens it is usually because I know I'm doing something stupid, and/or I feel the risk is worth it. Every now and then I'm just plain caught off guard by the angles some arty finds. In that case, good for him. He deserves it.

A single arty isn't that hard to avoid. The problems arise when you have multiple arties gunning for you. But if they have three arties, and two are focused on you... your team is alright. You aren't in a great spot, but the entire rest of your team is facing a single arty.

Before anything crazy like hardcaps of 1 or 2 arties per side are implemented, tracers really need to be brought back. It really is an ideal solution - the more arties there are, the more limited they are, due to increased counter-battery.
