Just got a T29 coming off an elited M6. Equipment suggestions? Gameplay tips? (besides always hull down)

I have to start with the M1A2 b/c I put a rammer on first and now the 90mm is too heavy. Wtf, fucking lame. edit: actually fuck this. Good god m1a2 is awful in this tank. I'll just buy the weight upgrade equipment temporarily. Dumb.

Thanks!

Well, my first suggestion for the T29 is don't ever play it without at least the 90mm!

Tracks - gun - better gun - turret - T32 (engines are up to you...optional if grinding to T32)

What equipment are y'all running on the T29? I'm thinking like:
1) rammer
2) vstab
3) GLD? vents? binocs?

Wasn't sure what to do with the 3rd slot. I've found binocs come in pretty handy on several of my other tanks... but at the same time the eventual 105mm I get won't be effective at huge ranges. So then vents to buff every tank aspect a tiny bit or GLD to make aiming faster? I figure this tank doesn't move around a ton?

------
edit: also, a new line of questions:
For those of you playing the tiger H, do you feel like it's gotten better since patch 7.0? I only got mine after the patch so I have nothing to compare to. But now that I have like 100 games under my belt (and am way past that horrid 20 game losing streak, ugh), it really doesn't seem that bad. At times it's actually really good! haha I love the long88. Like on losses I'm usually in the 500xp range, and on wins I usually turn at least 1000xp.

Did this thing get better? Is the Tiger P still superior? Am I gonna nerdgasm all over the KT when I get it? lol

With that 76m gun, you might want to go for the binocs (since you need to stay far away from enemies with that tiny little gun).

Haha I played like 3 or 4 games w/the 76mm. Then I was like "this sucks; fuck it" and spent some free XP to get the tracks. I had 60k free xp that I never spend so this was as worthy a cause as any!

vents always. It increases everything. I have vents on every thing I own except for the crap tanks I don't care about.

Also the Tiger H was never that bad for me. Once I got past the 10-15 game learning curve it was a fun tank to drive, so long as you don't try to do anything stupid like dogfight or lead the charge with it. It's nimble, and if you're at the top of the pack it's actually very formidable. I remember it was one of those tanks that I HATED to see on the other team because I knew it could nail my panther from 500m easy, and even with the 75 L/100 I wouldn't be guaranteed a penetration if he angles his tank. This was before the patch hit, so I'd think that it'd be even better now with all the spaced armor and whatnot. I've personally bounced quite a few high caliber rounds (10.5, s-70, BL-10 shots) off a tiger 1... the improvement in the armor is very noticeable.

The side ammo racks though are ridiculously weak and I get ammo-rack damage almost every other game (never got completely ammo racked, did get 1 shotted many times by big arties though).

Edit: Never understood why people thought the tiger was shit. But then most people on the official forums seem to be really shitty players that can't aim if their mothers' lives depended on it.

Vents, gun rammer, & vertical stabilizer on my T-29.

The Tiger P has a lot of thick armor on the front(200mm). It can take a lot of damage as long as you can keep your nose pointed at the enemy. It bounces big shells pretty decently too. The long 88mm (43/L71) has good penetration too. If you get into a fight where you are top tank you can own in it. Unfortunately its slow moving and can be easily flanked and that is where it's weaknesses mainly are. Sides and rear (80mm/80mm) are easily penetrated. Stock turret is weak too (100/80/80). This is one tank that cannot take a head shot very well so going hull down on it doesn't make it hard to hurt. I mainly hang back and snipe with mine since that's where it shines best as unless I'm top tank. Then its a real beast in a brawl.

Edit: Upgraded turret on Tiger P is 120/80/80

Oh geez, never had a tank where hull-down was so critical before. I keep thinking that I'm safe and WHAM 8 billion damage through my hull. Or I just can't find a good spot. Bah.

Also, fucking arty love shooting my poor T29.

Re: T29. I had Vents, Stab and Rammer. It's a tough tank to get used to, being a huge target and pretty sluggish.

My T32 has my old T29 equipment for now. Honestly not sure what else I'd add or change around. Might be tempted to swap the Vents for an EGLD but it's funds which I do not possess.

Tiger... awful awful tank until I got the 8.8cm L/71 (this is pre-Patton patch). After that, it was good. As it stands the Tiger is probably the second weakest of the Tier 7 Heavies, with the IS being the weakest (imo it's pretty much trash). The hull actually seems to bounce little bits and pieces with the normalisation changes and you really just have to play it a bit smarter than other tanks. Assume it bounces nothing so angle it as best you can, stay long distance to abuse the serious accuracy you possess and relative inaccuracy of Soviet appliances, use it's mobility and agility to get around the battlefield and bring pain to your enemies!!!

Seriously, the Tiger has plus points of being very mobile despite a low top speed and the gun lacks alpha but makes up for it with RoF, penetration and accuracy. Although you are more of a medium masher, you can pretty handily poke holes in the fronts of any tier 8 heavy. Tier 9 and 10 heavies are tough nuts to crack but you can ventilate some frontally with some luck and most through the sides or sides of the turret.

Re: T29. I had Vents, Stab and Rammer. It's a tough tank to get used to, being a huge target and pretty sluggish.
You can say that again. I *suck* with this (T29) tank. Granted I only have tracks & 90mm so far (almost have turret), but I'm bad. With my other tier6/7 tanks (vk3601, sherman E2, M6, KV-3, Tiger H, even the vk3001p), I avg ~1000 dmg per battle and in the 600-700xp range. Well dmg w/mediums is more like 800 but still.

With the T29, I'm only like 20 battles in but I avg ~500. Fail. If I find a hull-down spot, I can't shoot anything. If I don't, I get obliterated instantly. Actually if I do, I probably still get obliterated by artillery. Sometimes I think I'm hull down but my enemy lets me know that I'm not... or I might be hull-down vs one enemy (when trying ot use terrain) but not vs his neighbor and so forth.

I've been searching for T29 help threads like this:
http://forum.worldoftanks.com/index.php?/topic/75013-can-some-one-help-me-with-the-t29/
but I'm still awful :/. I feel stupid in this tank, haha.

Also I'm using that equip loadout too. That'll probably be my standard for heavies from here on out. Still undecided on mediums as I feel like optics or binocs might be better for a tank that sometimes scouts.

I actually didn't mind the Tiger w/short88 as much once I got used to it. It played like a crappier vk3601. But the long88 is glorious.

Also, I was unaware that the long88 can pen any tier8 heavy frontally. I've bounced plenty off of the likes of IS-3 and KT (US don't count lol). Now I don't even try. Are you aiming for particular weakspots, i.e., only works up close? KT I can wail on the cupola all day up close. IS-3 is more annoying b/c I have a hard time w/the driver's hatch. Shoudl I just be shooting low, aiming for the flat-ish parts of their front hulls?

Or should I really expect to be able to just point the gun at them (at sniping range) & pen? Usually I use my mobility to get side shots at closer ranges; farther away I wait for a good shot or aim to track them hoping that the resulting "spin out" will give me a good shot.

I find the IS-3 to be generally really bouncy. I swear I've bounced long88 shots aimed at 90deg into his side armor. I usually aim for the hull above the wheels to avoid track eating my damage. Same goes for the IS-4 & IS-7 which all nominally have side hulls that I should smash.

You'll get used to it.

1338 average damage in my T29 after 198 battles, 796 average exp.

Compared to my T32 which has 1982 average damage after 42 battles with 898 average exp.

KT: Porsche-turm (stock turret) Hit the right hand side as you look at it, often kills their loader. Lower front hull. Cuopla.

IS3: Almost anywhere Lower front hull always. Like the IS-4, always aim for the part of the front hull which is least angled towards you/flattest facing.

T32: It's actually quite resistant to anything with ~200mm penetration but you should go through unless it's heavily angled.

VK4502A: Shouldn't have much issue with this but lower hull is always soft and spongy. IIRC, turret is pretty porous too.

Went with the E8 a couple days ago and have it fully upgraded. Nice tank, fun to drive and play. It is amazing what manueverability can do when you arent used to it. I love pissing off heavies in city fighting when they want to play the hide and peak game. I drive around a few blocks and shoot them in the ass.

The 76mm isnt great but it has a really high ROF which makes for a great way to annoy or distract heavies or brawl with other mediums. I am tempted to keep this tank but waiting to see what the T20 has to offer. Goal is the Pershing then i will continue down the German and Soviet heavy lines to the IS3 and KT.

Man I wish I had a video of this one.

I'm the last tank in my Hummel, on the map with the two sides and a big valley between them, in our base.

A KV-5 is in our base; I shoot him and take him down to 27%. He then starts to cap. I sneak up to our flag between the buildings, and go aorund and TD shoot him before he can get turned, taking him to 11%. But now what? He's turning at me, nowhere much to go. I get back behind a building just before he can shoot. He's pointing at me waiting for me to stick my nose out.

I drive through the building and point blank shoot him before he gets a shot off.

Sounds like these are all reasonably close range shots? Like not 500m but more like 200 or less?

KT: Am I SOL on the non-stock turret? I hardly ever see the stock one. But I can pen the cupola w/the short88, so that's my most common aim point. I'm sure losing 50% of his health to a vk3601 pissed off the last KT I fought XD

IS3: Almost anywhere? Really?? I should be able to just point and shoot at the V-sloped part of the front? I guess I hadn't tried the lower glacis plate yet. It's pretty small-ish so I had thought that the angling was too high to be of much use to me.

T32/VK4502A: Yup I don't hesitate to shoot the hull. I actually completely forgot about the 4502A since I hardly ever see them. The B model is a bit more scary since that front armor is though like a Ferdinand.

KT: Henschel-turm is what turns the KT from something easy to damage to something that takes quite a bit more skill. It's sides are weak but it's so darn agile that it is handy against mediums anyway.

IS-3: You have to aim, not just point and shoot but there's no specific area you need to aim for. Look at the angles of the armour and aim for the spot where the angle is the least. If the IS-3 comes at you straight on, lower hull. If he's angled at 45 degrees, one of those panels of his V-shaped front armour should be almost 90 degrees to you. Aim for that one.

VK4502P Ausf B: This is nothing like the Ferdinand. It's front armour is magnitudes tougher. Case in point: I can penetrate Ferdinands quite easily at close range in my T32 with the 105mm T5E1. I struggle royally to penetrate the VK4502P Ausf B's lower front armour with my Lowe.

IS3: Yeah I've been experimenting more w/the IS-3. Got me owned once but now it got progressively less scary.

VK: Good to know. I've never been at close range to the front of a ferdi. My Tiger wouldn't survive, lol. And definitely never seen a VK Ausf B up close and not been trying to flank.

edit: Blegh maybe US heavies just aren't for me. I'm taking a break for the T29 for a while... just getting very frustrating. Have to take a step back.

Also, did you know if a friendly runs into you and takes damage, you can't get the sniper medal? They need to do something about the friendly-fire detection. Having a retard run into me at full speed is not my fault. Some kind of heuristic based on the person moving the fastest (if the differential is large enough) should be appropriate.

Maybe you're just playing it like a russian tank (brawler) or german tank (sniper), or maybe you're too focused on finding hull-down positions. Or, maybe you're playing the mostly stock tank with the so-so gun and you're encountering enemies that have bigger guns and you should be on the losing end no matter what you do!

Fully equipped, the T29 is a very good tank that is a jack of all trades, master of none. It's kinda good at everything, and that's its strength. It doesn't have ammo rack problems and it doesn't burst into flames often, and its speed is decent with the upgrade engines. With the 90mm and the stock turret, you are slow as shit but you're a pretty strong face-hugger. Just charge any enemy tank that gets too close, assuming he doesn't have friends, and facehug him until he's dead. You'll win more often than not against another tier7. Don't facehug any tier8+, especially a T32 or you won't live long.

I'm up to tier 9 on the american mediums and heavies, and the only tanks I've kept are the T29, the Easy8, and maybe the T32. I'm only keeping the T32 because it's become a surprisingly good credit earning machine.

If anything I'm probably too focused on trying to stay hull-down. I guess I'm always so happy to see T29s that aren't hull down b/c I can smash that hull armor even w/my short88 tanks (solo'd one in my vk3001p earlier tonight). I don't play it like a brawler mainly b/c I don't have any tanks that are good brawlers lol (KV & KV-3 are too slow). I do some sniping as opportunity presents itself.

My tank has track/turret/90mm. No other upgrades.

I have noticed its face-hugging powers. I was on swamp earlier, tier9 match. Retard team figured that a Tiger H & I (T29) could cover the bridge alone. Derp. Tiger H must have been auto-aiming or something so he was useless. Pershing & E75 were crossing the bridge. I'd been wearing down the Pershing slowly but they both made it across. They blow away the Tiger. I track the Pershing ,then charge in and slam into the E75. Must have surprised him or soemthing b/c he immediately fires into my mantlet & bounces. I take this opportunity to turn my turret and shoot the Pershing before turning it back to the E75. Boom he penetrates this time, ouch. Pershing is moving so I reverse & turn turret and kill him and facehug the E75 again. I try to fire into any "weak" spot I can find but it's all 0 damage crits or bounces, haha. He eventually kills me but there were a few bounces in there.

Or there was one on Lakeview where I went on the high-road. I was able to hull-down with terrain & annihilate a dumb IS without taking any damage.

Moments like those make me go "AWESOME" and think fondly of the T29. But so far those are few & far in between!

Mostly I think I still haven't figured out the right play style for this tank yet. Most of my time has been in sniper german tanks or flanker mediums. The T29's "good at everything, amazing at nothing" characterization is probably hurting me at the moment. That and the fact that people seem to fear T29s and will wail on me when they see me. I'm not used to this.

But most tanks I've played so far have had glaring weaknesses along with extreme strengths so I just focus on that strength. In the T29 I just don't know what to do.

Unrelated: A friendly ISU-152 one shots me from full health (vk3001p). I get a measly 3550 credits?! No bonus xp?! That doesn't even cover the repair bill! Not to mention the opportunity cost from not being able to deal any more damage. We were in the process of flanking some enemies so I was all set for some rape before death.

That's bullshit.

Face hugging is usually a bad idea. Cupola is an easy pen area on most tanks.

I owned a T32 face to face in my T32 because he tried to use HE and I just AP'ed his Cupola. Took ~300 damage whilst doing ~1200 to him.

Also, the front of a US Heavy's turret is not hard to penetrate, which most people don't actually know about. It's only the gun mantlet (which is most of the front, granted) that is the very heavily armoured part.

Never tried facehugging any of the Tier 9's but I've had some success playing peekaboo over a hill to score a hit on their cupola.

E8 is a fun tank, makes good credits, most people have kept it.

I have decided this will be like my KV, a permanent spot in the garage. God this thing is fun to play. Especially when I run into German mediums with their slow turret. Poor things trying to catch me while I do the circle of death.

Now what to get. I am thinking rammer + enhanced gun laying drive. But then vert stabs or vents?
