Re: T29. I had Vents, Stab and Rammer. It's a tough tank to get used to, being a huge target and pretty sluggish.
You can say that again. I *suck* with this (T29) tank. Granted I only have tracks & 90mm so far (almost have turret), but I'm bad. With my other tier6/7 tanks (vk3601, sherman E2, M6, KV-3, Tiger H, even the vk3001p), I avg ~1000 dmg per battle and in the 600-700xp range. Well dmg w/mediums is more like 800 but still.
With the T29, I'm only like 20 battles in but I avg ~500. Fail. If I find a hull-down spot, I can't shoot anything. If I don't, I get obliterated instantly. Actually if I do, I probably still get obliterated by artillery. Sometimes I think I'm hull down but my enemy lets me know that I'm not... or I might be hull-down vs one enemy (when trying ot use terrain) but not vs his neighbor and so forth.
I've been searching for T29 help threads like this:
http://forum.worldoftanks.com/index.php?/topic/75013-can-some-one-help-me-with-the-t29/
but I'm still awful :/. I feel stupid in this tank, haha.
Also I'm using that equip loadout too. That'll probably be my standard for heavies from here on out. Still undecided on mediums as I feel like optics or binocs might be better for a tank that sometimes scouts.
Seriously, the Tiger has plus points of being very mobile despite a low top speed and the gun lacks alpha but makes up for it with RoF, penetration and accuracy. Although you are more of a medium masher, you can pretty handily poke holes in the fronts of any tier 8 heavy. Tier 9 and 10 heavies are tough nuts to crack but you can ventilate some frontally with some luck and most through the sides or sides of the turret.
I actually didn't mind the Tiger w/short88 as much once I got used to it. It played like a crappier vk3601. But the long88 is glorious.
Also, I was unaware that the long88 can pen any tier8 heavy frontally. I've bounced plenty off of the likes of IS-3 and KT (US don't count lol). Now I don't even try. Are you aiming for particular weakspots, i.e., only works up close? KT I can wail on the cupola all day up close. IS-3 is more annoying b/c I have a hard time w/the driver's hatch. Shoudl I just be shooting low, aiming for the flat-ish parts of their front hulls?
Or should I really expect to be able to just point the gun at them (at sniping range) & pen? Usually I use my mobility to get side shots at closer ranges; farther away I wait for a good shot or aim to track them hoping that the resulting "spin out" will give me a good shot.
I find the IS-3 to be generally really bouncy. I swear I've bounced long88 shots aimed at 90deg into his side armor. I usually aim for the hull above the wheels to avoid track eating my damage. Same goes for the IS-4 & IS-7 which all nominally have side hulls that I should smash.
