You didn't have the T-44 manuevre into your way whilst you were circiling a Tiger II in your T-43, taking out your track... only to be smashed by your own artillery that after two minutes FINALLY recognised that you were getting shafted by multiple tanks.

That was stupidity of the highest order.

To address your first point, I loved Tier 1 and Tier 2, hence why I have a souped up T-26... but I hated Tier 3 and Tier 4 because I never had credit so my crew sucked, my tank, even though equipped with the best usually ended up as a suicide scout type vehicle.... and it just wasn't fun anymore.

Getting to Tier 5 changed that completely for me. My T-34, once I'd researched a bit and worked out who I could hit and who could hit me, I was rolling. Still got those matches where I was bottom of the pile and unable to scratch 10 out of 15 tanks but most of them were enjoyable.

Currently working on the German TD line. Loved my PanzerJager I and the Marder II when fully upgraded was a fearsome foe, capable of reducing a T-34 to scrap in not too many shots. Now I'm in the Hetzer and struggling once more. Things should pick up once I get my suspension (3 extra degrees a second) and a big gun to shoot people with (~400 damage from HE shell).

This time, my PanzerJager had 75% crew, I transferred all 3 members over to my Marder II and paid 20k each to upgrade them... then took all three of those onto my Hetzer and upgraded those... plus upgraded the fourth crew member the Hetzer had. That makes a huge difference but on your first time climbing... it's not affordable.

yeah, the middle tanks are no-man's land. the worst of both worlds. what's the point of my pzIV on a map that's 50% heavies and 50% artillery? too weak too fight, too slow to move.

I have some specific questions: maybe someone can help me out.

1. I see that there are special abilities? Like camouflage nets and repair kits? I've looked all over for how to buy these, but I can't find where.

2. It looks like I get 150 gold a day, is that right? Should I be spending that on things? Or hoarding it? Have no idea.

3. Someone posted that you can upgrade your crew from one vehicle to another. How do I do this? Because I'd like to use my Marder II crew in my new Hetzer.

4. Whenever a tank first comes into view it jumps around wildly on the screen, as though it's position is updating only once a second or so. Then it settles down smoothly. Is this a bad setting of mine, crummy servers or a game design thing?

I'm a newb still but I'll take a stab at your questions. Others can correct me if I'm wrong.

1. I think the camo is more for TD than other tanks but I could be wrong. Repair kits are for all tanks. If you lose a tread during the fight for example a repair kit makes the repairs go faster to get you moving again. Probably not worth getting in early tiers.

2. Yes, you get 150g per day. I'm told its best to save it up for the 30 day premium and then about 2 weeks into that 30 days you'll have replenished the 2500g and be ready to go again.

3. You can move a crew but they have to be retrained to do it. Not sure how its done. Never did it yet myself. I think its cost prohibitive at early tiers.

4. Its called rubberbanding by some. Its not you. Its the server lag. It happens a lot right now they say due to heavy server pop. testing. It should be fixed come release. Supposedly.

There is good info on their official forums and I have found the General chat filled with helpful players to answer questions. Try those for more info.

1. Select a Tank and look along the bottom bar. You will notice 6 black squares to the right of the equipment (turret, gun etc). The first 3 of these squares are for certain equipment like binocs, camo net, rammer etc. The second set is for consumables which can help speed up repairs or similar.

2. Gold is for Premium. Save up the 2,500 gold and buy 30 day premium. The rest of the gold is spare to use as you see fit... I would probably use it to change experience gained from an Elite tank (Elite means all research completed for that tank) into free experience. Experience is only collected on an 'Elite' tank if the 'Speed up crew development' box is not ticked.

3. Remove your crew from the Marder II. Switch to your Hetzer and click on your crew individually. Here you should see your old Marder II crew as a choice but their % will be red. Select them nevertheless and they will be part of your Hetzer crew but receive a penalty to their skill. You can open the Personal File for each crew member, go to Training and select the option 'current tank'. Here you can re-train them to be Hetzer crew with either free training, 20k creds training or 200 gold training. The recommendation here is 20k credits or nothing.

As far as I am aware, even if crew are using a tank that they are unfamiliar with, they will gain experience as normal. I did this with a 100% crew member who had 4% secondary skill in Camouflage who was T-34-85 trained. When placed into my KV, he gained experience up to 10% in Camouflage whilst he was T-34-85 trained.

4. This phenomenon is known as warping. It is an issue with the World of Tanks engine. They expect this to be fixed in the 0.6.x beta patch which is scheduled to arrive in Early November but I expect mid-November.

Very good answers Skott My post contains a little bit more information and slight corrections but for the most part you are spot on.

The Official Forums is okay for support but I always find it hard to separate the Whine from the Meat.

General Chat is filled with people who whine a lot and are very opinionated but they are often very helpful. Just be very careful with their advice and ignore the bad attitude you can find.

I asked what gun would people use on the T-26 and people told me, don't bother and get out of it ASAP. Thanks for the advice but I own a Tier 7 Medium tank and wanted some opinions and thoughts on the most effective gun for the T-26 which I bought to have fun with some of the Anandtech players and to take a break from the insane at times balance in matches.

The ATOT Channel which can be found by going to the Channels tab at the bottom and looking for ATOT is where I hide for most of the day (albeit AFK), is a great source of info too

Finished all the research in my wespe and just a couple matches and I'll be done in the marder. Just hit 200k in the money tab so have enough to buy either the p3, grille, or hetzer. Thinking about going with the p3 as the p3a sucks against most of the battles it gets put in, and with the new gun the marder is fairly decent and can make money/raise the crew skill up fairly easy in the wespe.

Looks like the server has went down. Seems like a WoT-end restart, not a complete crash.

Maybe new stability patch?

does anyone else think most of the players are outrageously bad? not that i'm great, but damn, i just want to strangle some of those idiots.

it seems to me the bigger the tank is, the dumber the player. i just had a fight where our heavies outnumbered theirs 5 to 1. guess what? all 5 heavies were cowering from 1 medium. how did these cowards rack up a bazillion points to get tiger II's anyway?

Personally, I'm a charge and see what happens type of guy. Unless I'm artillery, I can't stand to just hang back and wait and see what happens. I have to be first or one of the first to go out and scout about, whether im in my T26 or T46 tank. Sure, I'll probably be one of the first 5 people to die, but I'll usually take out a tank or two with me. I just can't stand sitting still and waiting. I just wish firing while driving actually worked. I'll aim at the enemy and fire and it always hits the ground right in front of them. If I aim a bit higher, it always goes over them. Its like there is no middle ground unless you use auto aim.

My 9 yr old wanted to play yesterday so I let him use the stock russian tank destroyer, AT-1? His first match he got two kills..

I'm really getting into it, but the grind seems maddeningly slow. I'm in a Hetzer now and most matches are horribly unbalanced for me. If with the 105mm cannon, I usually cannot penetrate half the enemy team. That means it's shear luck if I can get a kill, whether the first thing I meet is something small or an IS-4 which will just run me over. I have a camo net which helps some, but if the tank screen in front of me bites it, I'm usually toast. Couple that with half of my team running around in Panthers and Ferdinands, they're much more likely to get a killing shot in. Therefore, I make little experience in the Hetzer because getting a clean kill is really hard.

Hetzer is the hell of the TD's on the German line.

Use the 10.5cm gun and only use HE ammo. You can punch holes in Tiger II's (Tier 8 tanks).

You will die a lot because of your opponents but it's supposed to get easier.

I have ~11,500 experience and need ~12,500 for my StuG III NEARLY THERE!!!

Just before the server restart last night I bought the next tank in the Russian Heavy line. The T28. Can't wait till I can get it fully upgraded. Another long grind to the KV but I'm hoping it wont be too bad. I do enjoy many of the battles I have had with the T46 even though it was on the lower end of the performance scale often in battles against such tanks as the KV3. Twice now I have managed to knock the treads off of a KV3 with my T46. Trick is to get up close and circle around it and just fire away at the treads. The KV3 is slow so you have to use that against it. Its highly dangerous though. If the KV3 is solo and you have room to maneuver it can be done. Then you just let the arty or heavier tanks blast through its armor while you go onto other things. Can't wait to try this out with a T28. Especially once I get the more powerful 85mm gun.

Do not upgrade your hetzer at all! Do not waste any time or xp on that piece of crap. Just push right on through to stug3.

The KV and KV3 are far too slow to really be decent tanks, too. They're fun, in their own way, but once you hit the IS, the fun goes through the freaking roof.
