yea i am at the arl44 right now, i'm wondering what nerf they're gonna do? slow them down? make the reload time even longer? i don't think they can weaken the armor anymore as even low tiers can pen them reliably

Not sure and honestly I dont find them that crazy. Yeah a pair of batchats or AMX 13s will ruin your day. But they are nothing like the Type 59 zergs of a month ago.

I never had a problem with the 59s like I do with the french. I can cripple a 59 in my tier 7 panther before he kills me. I can also rape one with minimal damage in an IS-3/KT/T32. On the other hand the tier 8/9/10 french tanks will eat equal tier tanks alive. They all have enough hit points to take a hit and then commence ass raping you. The only defense is being in a group large enough that if everyone hits them that they die before unloading a clip into your teammates. If thier guns pen values weren't astronomical it wouldn't be as much as an issue as they would actually have to use some sort of aiming/flanking manuvers.

I don't feel I do that much module damage to French tanks. I would think them with no armor and taking hits they should be losing that autoloader or crew members more regularly. I just pumped 10 rounds from my wolverine into one, all penetrating but not doing a whole lot of damage but I'm not scoring the number of critical hits I feel I do other nations tanks.

You know those tanks that always get their ammo racks blown, engines etc. I just don't see it with the French ones.

Something needs to be done, the developers made a huge dumbass mistake adding France as a nation and not adding the Brits first.

so what I'm hearing is that I should stop grinding the german tanks and grind the french tanks until they get nerfed? lol

german tanks are fine to grind out. French tanks will be nerfed within the coming month so don't worry about them if you don't already have an AMX 13 series.

The problem with french tanks is they can deal huge bursts of damage, and that counts as supremely high alpha damage.

If an AMX50-100 is slugging it out with an e-75 head on... it WILL lose after it runs out of bullets. Which is why you use the AMX series as "cleanup" tanks. Run in, see 2 tanks low on health? Boom, they're both gone, and you reload as you run off to another engagement. See a tank at half health? Boom, dead. Off you go to another engagement. Huge penetration values ensure you almost never ding another tank so long as you aim in the general direction.

At no point in time will that long reload bother you unless you LET yourself get into a bad position. With the speed that these tanks have: not an issue.

On the downside, an easy 8 will probably kill you while you're reloading, if you get caught. Though you can probably just ram it to death.

Many of the french (all?) tanks have a clip loader. Instead of a 6-10 second reload, they have a clip of 4-5 shells that reloads in ~2 seconds. So they can unload 5 shells in 10 seconds, compared to 1-3 shells for any other similar tank. After the clip empties, it takes a looong time to reload, maybe 40 seconds.

French tanks generally find you, unload all 4-5 shells, then hide for 30-40 seconds.

(All seconds estimates above are guaranteed to be wildly inaccurate, but you get the idea.)

French tanks with autoloader (Gun dependant)

AMX 50 100 (6 shells)
AMX 50 120 (4 or 6 shells)
AMX 50B (4 shells)

AMX 12t (6 shells)
AMX 13 75 (6 shells)
AMX 13 90 (6 shells)

Lorraine 40 t (6 shells)
Bat Chatillion 25 t (6 shells)

Example: The Lorraine 40 t has a 6 shell autoloader. It takes ~50 seconds for it's 100mm top gun to load these 6 shells. It can fire these 6 shells at 3.33s intervals.

So:

Round Starts -> 50s ammo load -> Shoot -> 3.33s -> Shoot -> 3.33s -> Shoot -> 3.33s -> Shoot -> 3.33s -> Shoot -> 3.33s -> Shoot -> 50s ammo load

Simply you have a long downtime, a huge amount of rapid fire damage then a long downtime. Of course the reload time varies with gun and crew (AMX 13 90 gets as low as about 15 seconds reload with 2.5s intra-drum fire with one of it's guns) and one can force reload a drum too should the need arise.

This mechanic is also on any "Autocannon" guns like the PzII has. Makes them so much more fun

I'm curious. Were their real life counterparts set up the same? Low armor, speedy, burst damage then long reload? Or are these simply a "game mechanic"

The original 75 mm gun, allegedly modelled on the German 7.5 cm KwK 42 L/70 gun (used, among others, in the Panther tank) but firing very different ammunition from a shorter barrel, was fed with an automatic loading system in two six-round magazines located in the turret's bustle. The twelve rounds available in the loaders meant that the crew could engage targets quickly, however once those rounds were expended the vehicle had to retreat to cover and the crew reload them from outside the vehicle.

Lol, the AMX 13-90 wasn't developed until 1966. Nice to see it battling 1940ish tanks in the game.

Played for about five and a half hours tonight. Did pretty good in my Slugger. Just one odd anomaly. Could not penetrate a single VK3601. Not a one and I faced many. Weirdest thing I ever seen. I could hit and penetrate pretty much everything else with the 90mm but whenever I'd shoot at a VK3601. It either bounced, missed, or just dinged them. Couldn't even track them. Never seen bad luck like that. LOL

Ever since they nerfed the AP shell normalization where there's -10 degrees angle of incident, tanks with slope have gotten MUCH harder to penetrate.

IS-4 is near impossible to penetrate frontal with 225mm guns (tier 8 heavies) now, even driver hatch. IS-7, nothing frontal, even the lower glacis which used to be a huge weakspot.

The E-75 lower plate has ~200mm effective armor, with some angle its immune to tier 8 heavies.

The only OP french tanks based on official stats are the BatChat and Lorraine 40t, the french heavies are on-par. I think they may remove the 100mm from the 40t as it allows it to punch tier 10 to the ground with its 6 clip, 1,800 dmg with high penetration for a tier 8 medium is imba. BatChat, prolly change to refire to 3s from 2.5s per shot.

Yeah, Sluggers can bounce some shells at times. I have seen them bounce German 88s and shells from my T-59's 100mm and Lowe' 150mm. I really like the Slugger with the 90mm. Great sniping tank. Not many HPs though.

I've bounced 10.5, 130 and 12.8 rounds off sluggers before. Same with the priest's crazy gun mantlet.

Ayup. Sluggers are bizarrely bouncy. And the M6's damage eating tracks/side skirt things (not bouncing but 0% crit).

I've got the IS-3 all geared up now with the BL9, and, holy shit. I thought the T32 was a decent tank. This thing puts it to shame in most situations with ease. It puts my T34 to shame!

No kidding. I thought I was having a decent time in my T32. Then I got the IS-3 fully upgraded... and now I don't want to play the T32 anymore, haha.

haha yeah, late in a match and i've already got 3 or 4 kills and most players are damaged - that's when i go into "grim f'ing reaper mode" swooping thru and killing on the fly. those are the good games
