Yeah I don't welcome the idea of running the BL-9 in tier9 but what can I do :/ At least it won't be as bad as running the T29's 105mm on the T34, LOL. Did you get the IS-4 turret+gun without the tracks? If so, which piece of equipment did you swap out for the doodad that lets you carry more weight? vents?

I don't remember exactly what I did to make the IS-4, got it such a long time ago. I do see an improved suspension in my inventory so maybe I used that and then demounted it after I got the tracks. Still, you can do the math to see if the turret + S-70 throws your weight over. But the thing is heavily armored anyways, and BL-9 still hurts plenty on a flanking shot. Just don't trade shots with a decked out E-75, 4502P or whatever.

I also didn't get any modules on it until there was a sale, so maybe there's enough weight allowence there... :awe:

I do remember for the E-75 you had to get the tracks to use the 2nd turret because its like 4 tons heavier. So it'd be tracks -> turret at the very least. Without the engine and the top gun you're a more sluggish but heavily armored KT. I got the gun before the engine but man, this thing is a SLUG without the top engine. I played like 3 games with the 128 before free-exping the engine.

I can tell you that without the top engine, once you start in 1 direction you won't be able to change your mind. It's like a KV-3.

Also got my master tanker reward finally, turns out I was missing an IS-7 in my list. (!?!?)

I like how everybody throws around the term "free XP," when they probably mean "very expensive converted-free XP." Accumulating 100k of free XP without paying to convert it would take a long time. Converting that amount of XP, or a significant part of it seems too expensive.

Am I the only one that finds the conversion rates for XP and credits to be completely absurd?

I've never converted xp to free xp. The rates for conversion are too expensive for my taste. Eventhough I pay for premium, I'm too much of a jew to convert xp. I'de rather suffer through a bad tank than pay 5+ dollars. I also think it makes you appreciate the tank more once you upgrade it. You also get a much better idea of how much more you can bully around a non-upgraded tank after playing one.

Even without converting xp, I've had 4 seperate occasions when I had over 25k free xp. So if I would have never used my free xp on those occasions I would have over 100k atm. I would say its definately possible to have that much without spending $, but unlikely since most people tend to spend it. I also click the box to enhance training once I elite a tank, so I have very little convertable xp anyway.

XP is doable, I have probably converted 200k experience to free. The credit rate is a joke though. I know people in the clan that have converted well over 1mil exp.

Question: for you guys who have some tier 8+ tanks, do you guys keep some fun lower tier tanks? and how many slots do you have?

I found that I keep running out of slots coz I'm grinding multiple types of tanks, and there are some nice tanks that I wanted to keep (usually t5 and up), especially I've invested so much on the crews and modules. Right now I have 11 slots, the more tanks I unlock the more slots I am going to need. Am i like a tank hoarder for keeping old tanks?

There are usually sales for slots that come and go. I usually pick up a whole bunch during that time but I'm running about 15~ slots filled with various heavies and mediums and I find that's enough for me. I'll probably need another 2 slots if I start playing with SPGs, but right now I still have 1 empty slot, 2 if I sell my tetarch.

I have a bunch of low level tanks (tier 2-3) and for fun I have my KV, E8 and the T-50-2. T-127, mini Maus, etc etc. But buying the slots definitely help.

The XP rate is fine. In comparison to spending a few bucks to have an enjoyable tank right off the bat (E-75, E-50, IS-4, IS-3's BL-9, etc etc) vs painfully frustrating grinds for hours and possibly days BEFORE the tank becomes enjoyable to drive... yeah, I'll gladly spend $2-3 to have the new gun/turret/whatever. I just won't get coffee Monday morning or I'll have a few less beers that week. Although even without converting anything, I had about 20k worth sitting just this weekend, so I spent it on the AMX13-90's gun. That can easily add up over the course of a few months.

If I feel cheap with my gold, I'll just do the double and be done with the grindy tank. (currently doing it for the T-29...) I have around 500k exp sitting around that I can potentially convert if I feel like it, and I've converted around 200k's worth of exp, give or take. I have zero regrets spending $3 occasionally on something I enjoy playing, and it keeps the game from turning into a chore.

The credit conversion is highway robbery though.

I've never converted xp w/gold. I just spend the free xp incredibly sparingly. My only 2 major expenditures to date are getting tracks/turret for T32 immediately (god stock T32 is awful) and getting tracks/turret for TigerP immediately (to mount 88 L71), and BL-9 for IS-3 (no way I was running tier8 with IS's meh gun). Probably have another 2000xp spent sprinkled across various tanks. And after that, I'm getting close to 100k free xp sitting around, waiting to give me a lovely tier9.

edit: I also have about 15 tanks in my garage. Got 2 through new french tank + tetrarch, got a few through promotions (t-127, minimaus, etc) and bought a few on sale. But I keep around some lower tiers for fun, like my jump, vk3601h (fav tank, <3), and KV.

My garage:

1: Derpy KV (favorited to be first)
2: T20
3: E-50
4: E-100
5: Jag Tiger
6: GW Tiger
7: MS-1

11: Obj 704
12: Obj 261
13: KV-5
14: Type 59
15: Forgot my damn ARL44 (easy to forget that pig)

I will need to get a few more slots soon for the IS7 and the Ausf A. Both are unlocked, need about 2 mil more for the 7 and the Ausf A I am going to grind along with my friend so that is a whenever tank.

When the Russian patch gets close, I will temporarily sell the MS1 (crew to barracks) and rebuy the KV-3 for the extra slots and tanks. Then immediately sell both and get my MS-1 back, sell the KV-1 and transfer the crew to the KV-2.

28 tanks, that's hardcore. Even keeping a tier 1 and 2 tank?

I'm grinding the VK3601 now and I don't like it very much. MM seems to always put it in mid to low tier in matches. I'm hoping the 8.8cm will make a big difference as I'm almost there, then the engine coz it's rather slow for a medium.

i have 14 tanks, after earning my daily doubles, i have about 1000-1500 free xp to use
and playing everyday will get you 30-60k free xp every month, just save it, you don't need to pay to convert it.

i used to keep tier 5/6 for grinding, but then bought the Type 59, no need anymore so i free'd up all those slots

The T1 Cunningham is a trollmobile. There was a tourney a while back with very limited points that each team could use. Our team had two points left over so we decided to roll two T1s as scouts. So I bought the T1 and I golded the crew. I then stuck binocs, optics and camo on it. I ran it around pubs for a few days to get as much camo training as possible. What I found was it simply rocked everything because, frankly, nobody is running around with hundreds of thousands of credits of modules and 100% camo crews in a tier one battle. It is unfair but sometimes I'm not feeling fair.

The Marder II is similar as it is fully pimped out. That had nothing to do with a tourney, I just liked the Marder II too much to sell it.

Once I had those two in my garage I decided to get, at the very least, my favorite tank at each tier. That is how the PzIV, T40, ARL-44 and Tiger P got into my garage. Still don't have a favorite Tier 2 though. The Tetrarch is Tier 2, but that was a free tank and I think I've played three games in it total.

Try equipping the german mediums as snipers. With binocs and a camo net, their very accurate guns make them pretty good snipers. I ran the PZ4, 3601, and now the 3001H as sniper setups and they did pretty well.

Of course, if you want easy mode, look at the 7.5 L/58 gun for the 3601 and consider buying some gold ammo when its on sale this weekend. The pen and damage of that gun (with gold ammo only) is insane for a tier 6.

is the only requirement to getting a premium tank the gold cost? Or do you have to actually research something?

VK3601H is my favorite tank in the game. Fully upgraded, it's awesome. The armor is pretty robust & with angling, you can bounce many things from the same tier & get lucky sometimes against higher tiers. Even if you don't bounce, with 850hp you can take a few hits.

I used to hate the short88 for its lack of pen but it's great now that I've adapted to it. Good ROF/damage, weak pen. Hold your fire till you're sure you can pen. 3601H isn't fast by any means but w/the last engine, you have enough mobility to flank bigger enemies. Use bigger friendlies/any enemy as cover and keep moving to get to positions where you can pen. You can pen any tier8 except the KV-5 from the sides (IS-3 you need to aim VERY carefully for the lower part of the hull which only has 90mm of flat armor). KV-5 you can hit R2D2 or his ass plate (hit the flat part o/w you can still bounce). That said, prioritize targets based on what you can pen easily/what is most dangerous. Like if you can shoot a KV-5's R2D2 from the side or hit a Tiger from the rear... take out that Tiger first. You can dump out a lot of damage & repeatedly bouncing is killing one your strongest points.

I usually start each match by rolling to a good sniping spot where I'm hidden or overlooking a common choke. I'll stay and take pot shots or help with counter-scouting till the bigger tanks form up. When sniping, don't shoot if you can't pen; not worth revealing yourself. But if no one's attention is on me, I might fling ammo at something big just to be a pest (might mess up their shot or score a lucky crit). Then I'll sneak in from some sideways direction to take flank shots. And man when you get into position for flanking action, you can dump out a lot of pain; DPS is quite good on the short88.

Eventually I played the tank enough to get camo as a 2nd skill, and ROFL. From bushes I can often shoot at people w/o being detected. It's hilarious. My setup is vent/rammer/binocs. The extra view range I find gives me an advantage as long as it's not a tier 8 or 9 battle esp b/c I spent the first part of each game sniping.

Basically, don't draw attention to yourself unless you have an advantage. Snipe and hide, then flank enemies distracted by teammates. Don't forget to angle your armor; you can bounce a lot of shit with like a 30degree turn. Don't sit still if attention is drawn to you.

Kv1 will become 2 tanks if you have the box turret researched: KV1 + KV2.

KV3 will get moved up to tier 7, in its place some other tank. KV3 + sometank.

So you get 2 free garage slots + 2 sets of 100% heavy tank crew.

Also yes, only cost for premium tank is the gold and a free garage to stuff it in. No research, and you can't research. All premium tanks come completely outfitted/elited and you can start earning exp/accelerate crew training right away.

hmmm I think I know what I'm going to go home and get:

The Marder II is a German tier 3 tank destroyer. It is a vast improvement over the Panzerjäger I, and is an extremely enjoyable tank. It has a great range with its cannons, especially the 7.62cm PaK 36 (r), which can hurt most other vehicles 2 or even 3 tiers higher. With more engine power, a better gun, and much better armor than the Panzerjäger I, the Marder II is a fun tank to play whilst heading further up the tank destroyers line.

Research leads to the Hetzer.

I did finally get my Tiger P elite tonight. Other than that my luck was all bad. Every battle I was in one of the top 3 tanks sat afk at base. I wish they would make it so if your tank does not move from the original spawn spot after say, two minutes, that it explodes and you get fined like, say 100,000 creds, or something like that. That would teach the idiots. Or just let the team mates kill it without penalty for their own pleasure. I like that idea too.

If I crash when loading up the match, even with an SSD and i5-based system it will take me more than 2 minutes to get back into World of Tanks (especially with my RAID array too) so I'd not be a fan of that. 5 minutes would be more appropriate.

I have, however, seen a match that was won by a Type 59 who was afk for about 11-12 minutes and turned the tide of the fight at the end at something like 11-11.
