So, any advice for someone who's just starting off? I'm working my way up the American light tank & tank destroyer tree.

Read up on some basic tactics, even on the worldoftanks.com site is a good start. The videos on penetration and camoflage will help you understand game mechanics pretty well.

I got into the SPG line early so that I could hang-back, watch games unfold a bit from artillery-view mode, and see how people hid/moved around the maps. It also helps you when you start playing as a tank/TD to know a bit better where SPGs can/can't hit, etc.

And when you get to the Tier 4 tanks, especially if you're still in a light, don't get discouraged. You won't always have such a great disadvantage with the MM. I almost gave up the game at tier 4, since I kept being thrown in with tier 8s. But getting out of a light helps. And, quite honestly, it takes a lot more skill to play a light tank well, especially in those odds, than it takes to play most other tanks, in my opinion.

The low tier are all very distinct in 1 way: they have no armor. So you should learn how to find cover to minimize your profile. This is true even when your tanks get bigger, and especially true for american tanks, which have great turrets for hulling down.

The difference between a 50% crew and a 75% crew is huge. But don't spend money training them in the low tiers, you generally progress through tanks so fast that its a waste. Do train them at tier 5 though, it makes the grind enjoyable. Starting at tier 5, also use consumables like repair kits and medkits.

Save your free exp!!!! Very important!!! There will be turds of tanks that NEED free exp right off the bat for those upgrades!!! (pershing, T32, etc)

Decide whether you want a turret or not in your TD line. I'd suggest the turreted line as it makes your tank more versatile.

Use your tier 5 tanks to make money. If you get some gold, get a premium account, it really helps leveling and money making.

Lastly: Don't buy a tier 8 tank until you have one yourself. You'll just get disappointed when you die without doing anything, and your team will just yell at you.

shooting a t29s turret frontally is a wasted shot. The only real weakspot when he's looking right at you is the cupola, which isn't an easy shot, especially if the T29s on higher ground. Now if the t29 isn't looking at you, the turret can be penned reliably.

Skott, shooting a T29s turret with HE is also a waste. You would be lucky to do any damage at all unless its a KV-2 derp, even then, damage would be minimal. Gold rounds wont help either, with 279 armor and the gun mantlet, your chances of penning are still quite low.

We did well yesterday Possessed. Won 16 of 19 games. Even got you a win on your T28.

Well, in the past I used to use HE. They changed how HE works now. Its less effective than before. I have a new method however. Gold shells. It works. Doesnt do the same damage as hitting its hull obviously but most times it does drive the tank back which is usually what I'm striving for when encountering a hull down T29. Of course flanking them is the best method but cant always be done. Gold shells will pen though. I know that from experience. Just need a accurate gun is all. Lots of practice too. ;-)


Addendum: I been trying to grind up my T21. The MM hates this tank with a passion. 70% of the fights are T9 & T10 battles. The rest T8 on down. The poor tank has a weak gun for what it faces. Its a tough grind.

Today I decided to do something different. I bought a T26E4 gold tank. I been fighting these things since they came out and noted how tough they can be when facing them frontally. So, I decided to invest in one for crew training and credit farming. I filled it with a 100% crew. Vert. Stab, gun rammer, and Vents. First skill I have my crew working on is BIA. Figure Repairs next then ship them off to another tank. Only played 7 battles. Trying to learn what this baby can do. So its my new toy I'm playing in.

So they increased the gold cost of those HESH rounds by 20 gold, what were they at? Sounds expensive, but I guess that kind of stuff doesn't matter much for high level CW?

Remember, you can 100% train the crew for ANOTHER tank of the same country and type and use it in the gold tank with no penalty, so might be no reason to train for the gold tank.

Perfect timing on premium credit sale. I bought the M4 last night and ran the derp. Not quite as good at one shotting people as thr 152mm on the original KV. But it reloads a lot faster so it is more effective. 5 games, 17 kills, record of 1-4 lol.

I cant overcome the rest of the numbskulls playing. One of my losses I would had placed 2nd on the winning team with 830 exp. The next nearest guy on our team had 315. /facepalm

I see 43% winrate, bad stats people driving tier 9/10 all the time...no tier is safe from people that seem to clueless or to scared to be playing.

But what is this, not a single enemy in sight. Then I realize I did not just lag, I disconnected. By the time my connection was restored, I was long dead. Somehow the last course correction the server logged put me DIRECTLY towards their spawn and that was where I died, beyond the spawn on some rubble. My turret was facing 180 degrees from my tank like a good bot. I see bitching in channel about the damn wz being a bot and to report him. I announce that I lagged out, and I am sorry. Because of my active conversation they knew I was not a bot. We ended up winning and I found out our team DID use my suiscout run to their advantage several tanks sniped from the mid point early on while their entire team pounced on my full throttle tank. I ended up with another scout medal, AND the worst xp of our team.

Looking forward to stocking up on some premium ammo. Although I don't generally use gold rounds, it seems like the type 59 would benefit decently from some premium ammo. Same with the M103's heat rounds... same with the M7 and to a lesser degree the Type T-34.

heck, I should just buy a whole bunch of derp heat rounds and go nuts with a M4 or something.

Ill be loading up on M4 derp rounds that is for damn sure!. I looked at the stats of my M4. Before I rebought it with the derp I had 47 games with 18 kills using the 76mm. 7 Games since getting the derp and I now have 39 kills lmao. Why didnt I ever use this thing before?

If any light tank you have to go through that is not good, just put camo net, binocular telescope, optics/vent and learn to passive scout. You will be a great asset to your team at any tier.

Regarding skills... 6th sense should be first skill you learn in any tank.

I don't think the HESH rounds are going to break the game. Yes they can be powerful but usually they aren't. Like all HE rounds they are subject to weirdness and hitting minor components. The splash damage however is ridiculous. Be careful around these guns if you're low on health, you don't even need to aim to kill someone. Any hit from the HESH does 600-700 damage.

You have to hit a low flat armor spot to do max damage. I've hit some tanks in the side armor and read for big numbers, 1900+ etc. So if you like to get yourself out of position near one of these big guns you're going to pay.

Facing your strong frontal armor to one of these guns will negate most of the damage from the HESH and the AP round would have been more devastating. It's a huge money sink so we'll see how it plays in regular pubs. Against other tier 10 tanks though it's really not that crazy.

The 183 tank is fast and lightly armored. It doesn't have the side armor to play like the IS4 in regards to backing up and exposing the gun though the tank is setup to play like it.

It's a fun tank and the gun requires some skill and is most dangerous to low HP tanks since any type of hit results in a consistent amount of damage so no lucky bounces against the HESH round.

Considering how terribly it got nerfed, I'm not surprised. It's not the fearsome tank it used to be and it shows in the tier 10 population. Do people even use it for clan wars anymore? Think the 110E5 is the standard heavy now.

110E5, 110E4, T57 and T-62 are the guts of CW tank forces nowadays. Everything else is situational. T92s and GWEs will appear in slow maps and 261s and BatChatArty will appear in faster maps. BatChats can be used as dogfighters. IS4s and E100s can be useful, and rarely even a Maus.

I do not see Pattons or E50Ms much. They are good tanks, but do not excel at anything in particular. AMX-50B has been replaced by the T57. IS-7 doesn't do anything that another tank won't do better. The turreted 110E4 is superior to all other T10 TDs, although some prefer the E3 for its better armor.

I have not yet seen how the Chinese or British T10s play in CW.

They could buff the IS-7 to godlike standards but I still wouldn't enjoy playing tier 10's.
You can ask Lurker here, I am a HORRIBLE player of fast tanks. I should never have gotten the 62a as 1) I never was picked to play it in CW 2) I will not play CW again in the future.

I play all tiers, but end tier in pubs is probably my most disliked. If I am going to play tier 10s, then it will be in tanks I enjoy, not necessarily the best tanks in the game. The tanks that I enjoy are high alpha monstrosities. So I have the JPE for that and the 268 when I want to be trolling up in pubs. The E-100 also fits the bill. The IS-7 does not, the IS-4 never did.

If I am to be honest with myself, the actual tanks I am still grinding are going at an abysmal pace because there is no goal anymore. Once I unlock the E5, I will never buy it. Same with the Maus. I might get the E3/E4 but I am still on the T28/proto. I seriously should consider abandoning some lines and retraining the crews for tanks I enjoyed earlier in the lines. Sell the ausf B and get the tiger. Sell the T28 and get the... t18? t82?.

In the least, I should sell my 62a and get the 54 again so I can troll with Lurker in a pack.

I actually dogfight(?) very well in the IS4. It's one of the few tanks that can actually throw its own weight around and I don't mind the tank much, but its seriously lacking in comparison to an E100 for example. You can't troll with the IS4 because of the absolutely craptastic armor, but I guess at least you're a smaller arty target than the E100.

If the E-100 is any better i'll probably be selling the IS4.

I'll be buying the T-54 this weekend so I can get some good 5x exps. With credit heat rounds I forsee a lot of trolling to be done with this tank.

edit: bad news, seems like no credit discount for gold rounds, just gold discount. Welp, back to my normal loadout.

wow that's some crazy exp, must be some epic game play.

Anyway I had my best start of a 5x weekend, going 19-7, including a 9k+ (with premium) on my ST-I with BL9 and did 5500 damage. Wish I have a few more games like that then I can grind out the top gun quickly.

I am also about to choose between Chinese light or medium line? any suggestion on which line is more fun and easier to grind?
