Finished the On Track to the Bat Chat 155-58 last night. 250,000 experience in French arty in two weeks is pretty rough, especially considering I've never played that line and started from scratch. But I finished it with about 8 hours to spare and got the free LeFH. That arty is FUN. It fires so quick and is very accurate. I can see why it was pulled from normal purchase.

250k in two weeks is obscene! You are a monster!

Do you guys run any premium tanks?

I've got 1200 games in my Lowe although I'd like to try a different one. The Lowe is kind of boring to me since it's very slow and has weak hull armor. Also, the Lowe does not have preferred matchmaking so I see tier 10's more often than I expected and those are very challenging to take on in this tank.

Yeah there does seem to be a ton of lemming trains whenever these things happen.

Unfortunately I didn't get to take full advantage of the 5x as I was working on my Masters Thesis. Got maybe 1/4 of my tanks each day was all I had time for.

I now have to decide what tier 10 to go after. I have:

JP E100 (newest)
WT auf E100
E100
BatChat
OBJ 430
T110E3

Was thinking about going after one of the Russian heavy tanks (IS-4 or IS-7, probably leaning towards the IS-4), or the 183. Maybe the 183 since I essentially have zero british things.

Let me know which of the Soviet tanks you prefer. I've had the IS-8 unlocked for 1.5 years now and have been reluctant to pull the trigger on it due to the bad reputation it has for having paper armor. I'd try the IS-4 line but am not sure if that one is great compared to the other tier 10 heavies. There have been other tank lines that were more interesting to me.

the is-8 fucking blows, you can do alright in it if you play it like a medium. it cannot bounce shots, i'd have to say the is-3 bounces more than the is-8. it is definitely worth the grind however as the is-7 is still a great tank even with the powercreep. and before you say i've only had a few matches in it i've had 846 games and a 55.32% w/r in the is-8. not great but average.

the is-4 is a good pub tank if you're comfortable with side scraping.

I'm thinking the game might be more CPU bound. The reason is that I've been experimenting with a lot of settings lately between lowering graphics from "low" to "minimal" and that didn't have very much of an effect on my FPS. I expected to see some performance gain when switching between medium to low to minimal and still get similar results. What worked better was installing various mods such as "no fog" and also the fix for the low FPS problem when in sniper (zoom-in) mode.

Admittedly, my computer was built in 2006 and is rocking an AMD 4850 and a core2duo e6300 with 4GB RAM so the hardware is weak by today's standards.

Like most other players I noticed a difference in performance when the 9.0 patch hit and any time I'm viewing cities or villages my FPS suffers dramatically. Since transitioning from low to minimal seems to have no effect, I'm guessing I'm more CPU bound. I believe that this indicates the problem has more to do with bad code and poorly optimized software.

Interesting. I planned on upping my GPU and CPU for now, but as I said before, I had some unforseen expenses pop up and that's set me back a while. I'm guessing my i3 is pretty weak but it shouldn't be running that hot.. Ah well I will check out my temps tonight.

A good forum for you to read up on is the one at the World of Tanks website.

That's really where you'll find the most advice condensed in one place.

In my opinion, a great tank line to focus on for a beginner through to tier 10 is the American heavies. I finished that line last month when I unlocked the t110E5. It's a great tank and is heavily used in clan wars. The main strategy to use for the American heavies is "hull down", that is, keep your chassis hidden as best you can and only expose your turret. The Tier 7 and tier 8 (t29 and t32) have very strong turrets that are very difficult to pen. The T29 is considered by many to be op for tier7. In my opinion, the American heavy line is easy mode.

You are going to find that the most popular medium tanks in the game are the Soviets. The T-54 is great. The tier 10 - t62a and object 140 are considered the best mediums in the game and are staples of clan wars. These are the mediums that are recommended to new players the most.

Also, there are very many fun tanks and great lines to explore. Everyone has their own opinions. Try not to put too much stock into whiners who complain that certain tanks suck after only playing a few battles into them. Each tank in the game has it's strengths and weaknesses and they all have their place.

Take the French lights/mediums/heavies for example. I'd say that they are challenging for beginners since they have very little armor. Once you master their play style they can really perform. I've completed both the medium and heavy lines of French tanks.

Another overlooked line that is underrated in my opinion is the British medium line. I just unlocked the tier10 this morning. In my opinion they are some of the best mediums in the game, although they take skill to play effectively. The tier 6 - cromwell is awesome and one of the funnest tanks I've played. The tier 7 and 8 comet and centurian are also great and grinding them was a breeze. The tier 9 Centurion 7/1 is an excellent medium and has a great reputation on the forums. This is probably my favorite tank line at the moment.

Great advice I will def check out the forum !! I've only played probably 10 hours so far.

A better WoT forum for actual filtered advice is wotlabs. Do yourself a favor though, and read but don't post. That place is more elitist than anything I have ever encountered. As a 60%er I don't even fit in there and have been negged into oblivion for pointing out flaws in their logic.

As far as my premium tanks are concerned:

Tier 8
Type 59 - original release purchase, all but retired, hate it
KV-5 - all but retired, hate it more than the 59
IS6 - meh
T34 - Gun trolls me sometimes, but fun.

Tier 7
SU-122-44 - FUN
E25 - MORE FUN

Tier 5
KV-220 - troll fun

Tier 4
Valentine II - troll fun

Tier 3
LTP - all but sold, POS

Tier 2 (all gift tanks through the years)
T1E6 - all but sold, POS
tetrarch - love it
T7 combat car - all but sold, POS
Light mark VIwhatever - all but sold, POS

The only one I sold was the 127 which I *hated*. I really only play the T34, e25, and su-122-44 anymore.

Solo's mod pack with Solo's XVM mod and Jimbo's reticle along with a few other mods from the pack.

And you said this helped with your FPS?

Also have you found any benches out there for this game so it can be confirmed it's CPU intensive/bottlenecked?

why hate the type 59? It's still a decent tank that gets preferential MM. The gun leaves a lot to be desired and same with the mobility, but it's an above average tank IMO.

It's purely single threaded and single GPU, but both should change during this year. (I hope)

Remembering the tank that was. The 59 was nerfed twice, once in armor and once in mobility. It is *not* the same tank it was at release. I am still a bit bitter that they don't offer reimbursement like they did to the stupor-pershing users.

But still better than most of its t8 equivalents. I'd take a type 59 over a pershing or T44 any day and the turret is very bouncy.

It was also changed in MM so it was thrice nerfed. Its still a decent medium in the right hands and does what its original intent was. Making credits. People make fun of the Lowe but in mine I can get over 100k credits more often than any of my other T8 tanks. It is my fav T8 gold tank when it comes to farming credits.

FWIW I just ran a GPU monitor while in game.

Ran at 98% load... So idk about it being more CPU intensive than GPU. I also was urnning at 98C as well...I think I might need to clean my fans out and crap because that is notttttttt good.

For some reason, I did pretty good over the weekend despite the lemmings. 65 percent win rate.

Had to quit today after going 5-17. Horrible day today. And it wasn't just the teams. I was playing poorly for some reason.

Through subjective observation I found that the mods I use have very little effect on performance. They're mostly skins over the interface anyway- like the white dead tanks mod. The mods that have the deepest negative effect on fps are Melty's math mods and mini map mods.

Yup I installed a modpack from the WoT forum last night. Have yet to play though b/c of my GPU over heating issue.

View range are last spotted positions on the mini map is very useful.

While it took some time getting used to, the yellow outline on enemy tanks is also nice to have.

Ah, it looks like it got removed from tier 7 games?

Yeah, a while back they changed it when they made the other nerfs. They pushed it up one level so it wouldn't decimate the T7 tanks. Its still a good medium tank just has tougher opponents now. There are better mediums now of course but it makes very good money being that its a gold tank. Other mediums cant match the credits the Type 59 makes.

Best tank for credit grinding?
Löwe, Jagdtiger 8,8 or other?

Probably not the JT88, against 9's it will have to spam gold. Credit grinding you need to be concerned with one thing only, AP pen. The JT88, IS6, KV-5, and stupor pershing struggle with using AP. The T34 and Lowe are fine. Hey look, the tanks with proffered match making have crappier guns.
