As for anyone with some experience with the russian TDs, how are the SU-85 and SU-100s?

85 is great. 100 is probably a bit better.

Both are amazing credit grinders.

However, the path to them is absolutely hellish. Easily 1-shot, low penetration, low damage and minimal life expectancy.

i got up to the su-85 during the beta, loved it, awesome damage but once again paper thin armor so you have to camp and get that first shot in

i forgot what a pain in the ass it is to grind up to it tho, i'm still stuck on the 1st russian TD right now

Just remember that a spotted SU-85 or 100 sitting still in a bush firing away will make every enemy piece of artillery start drooling. If you feel that you've been spotted, don't think that you're safe once your camo kicks back in. There's a good chance you've got arty sitting with its aiming circle on top of your bush just waiting for the accuracy to maximize.

Bottom line: If you think you've been spotted as a TD and you don't have hard cover between you and the enemy arty it is time to move (or post about OP arty in the WoT forums).

Yup. Think how I felt in my ferdinand, where camo is nonexistant with the horrible traverse and 30 kph top speed.

I'm finding most things to be painful right now. I just got my PzKpfw IV last night...played a few games before I had to shutdown for the night before I cried. Its such a terrible tank stock. I've read that it gets much better with the 75mm long gun and suspension...hoping that is true.

I havent bought mine yet but I did have it in beta. Like everyone else is saying its a terrible tank. The long 75 helps it but I still didn't like mine but I had it before they improved the tier match ups so maybe now its not so bad. We'll see. I do remember when having that long 75 gun plus a gun rammer that tank could constantly fire shells. It was fun to lay down lots and lots of supporting fire upon an enemy. Couldn't do much damage to big tanks but it can cause distraction which can be helpful at times. I remember using the gun to knock down buildings that the enemy hid behind and exposing them to everyone. That was always funny.

I should be into mine today or tomorrow so I'll test it again and see how it is.

Woo i got a KV3 now Pretty glad i didnt go the german line, their tier 6 equivalent VK3601 didn't scare me much in a KV, far less now.

Currently on the KV, and the grind to the 107mm is excruciatingly slow.

I think I'll be going KV-1S instead of the KV3. I went for the KV3 during beta so I want to try out the other option.

Had my best game last night on the Panzer IV with upgraded turret and long 75mm gun. 8 kills and over 3k XP. Admittely it was a decent team all around, but considering it was probably my least favorite map (Ensk), I was surprised that I pulled this off. This tank tends to be underestimated too often and much to others' demise. This one will be a keeper for sure.

Going to go the 3001(H) path and there branch for the Tiger or Panther... decisions, decisions.

Had a few epic battles in my T20... it's all upgraded now and just grinding out the 100k exp needed for the T23. Sitting with a Rammer and Vertical Stabilizer.... very fun indeed.

Both are very fun tanks but they're distinctively very different playstyles. Just remember they're both atrocious at stock levels and you'll constantly get matched up against Tier 9s.

KV-1S is just a faster KV with less armor. Its more of a medium than a heavy and drives like one to boot. Would not recommend as it is very fragile...

It's got significantly less armor and a "faster KV" is still a sitting duck because it's still really really really slow. Even fully upgraded.

I'm aware of its fragility. I think I play like a medium, even with my heavy, so I'd give it a shot. The worst that I can happen is that I grind slow, not the end of the world. Besides, if I get stalled, I can try out American tanks or Russian mediums.

The American Mediums are quite superb too. I'm having a ball in my T20 and both the M7 and M4A3E8 Sherman are excellent tanks too.

Quite tempted to start on that. I heard the American tanks in general have great guns, weak hull armor, and superb turret armor.

This is true.

I'm going American Heavy line because they are often the most underpowered (I always play underdogs).

Unless you're playing the T29. That thing is beastly.

Also it's terrifying to fight against T30s. I'm ok with fighting IS-7s and Mauses but T30s always make me think twice before charging forward...

It's matched with high-tier tanks you can't do anything to. You'll be the first or second tank killed in each match. You can't even scout because you're too slow, it's not going to play like a medium, well maybe like a slow Matilda.

My M3 Lee is a better tank.

So I just got up to where I got with the American Tanks in Beta... The T1 American..yuck. On the other hand..I'm at the SU-85 TD and WOW. It was a sucky long hard grind to the TD PZIV....the Su-85 (And for the most part the SU-85b) is amazing. I can actually kill things..and I didn't even need to "Hetz!".

Decided that I can only play a few tanks because of school so I am doing.

Heavy: T1 American
Artillery: German Grille
Medium: Russian A20
Tank Destroyer: Russian SU-85

so i'm leveling up pretty slowly but still having fun
im close to getting the m7 priest, does it have a long range gun like the m37?

i've all but given up on the german line, the grind is horrible, stuck on the ausf A, hate it, don't feel like playing it anymore hahaha

just got all unlocks except the KV for my t28, i think i like the 57mm more than the big gun, feels more accurate, and better penetration, i was able to take out a kv with the 57 LOL, i bet that guy was pissed

i just unlocked the su-85b but it will be a bit until i can afford to buy it, i came upon someone playing an su-152, holy crap it is a beast, it destroyed our team. i got to the su-85 during beta, can't wait to get that back heh
