Eh, when even the slightest movement of the mouse knocks your aim off the tank... I *will* use auto aim.

Adjust your mouse sensitivity?

Auto-aim has 3 MAJOR downsides:

 • It aims center mass, so you're usually hitting their heaviest armor. Especially in higher tiers and at range, you'll bounce more.
 • It aims center mass, so if the enemy is partially behind cover, it's likely to be shooting into whatever he's hiding behind.
 • It's worthless against any moving target.
I'm sure you can do tolerably well with auto-aim. But you'll do much better learning to aim manually. My sharpshooter record is more than 50 hits in a row - I don't think you're going to get close to that with auto-aim.

I don't use auto aim very often but when I do its against arty and when I'm moving fast to avoid enemy tanks shooting at me while shooting at the arty. This is usually when playing a fast medium tank. Usually just hitting them is enough to do serious damage or an outright kill. Most times though I manual aim because its better all round.

I might have to do this but it is very rare I am shooting at extreme ranges. If I am it is with a sniper type tank and auto aim is sufficient (since you really can't try for vulnerable spots). Either I am going to hit the tank or I am not.

I understand the downsides, in my 3001P, I was firing from an elevated position. Yes I did switch to manual when a tiger crested the hill and I had to devote my entire attention to killing that (finished off by a team mate when I had ~50 HP). I did kill a Lowe from 100% to 0 that game, but it was HE and he was dueling somebody else. I still was forced to dance so I really had to use auto aim to make sure the other enemy had no angle on me (another Lowe).

My sharpshooter is in the 30's and is from my Loltraktor. It also has my Master Gunner record in the 20's when I loaded gold ammo just to piss off tier 2-3's. I do not try for sharpshooter as it means I am not taking risky shots. Wasting an 88 or 75 mm shot at a tasty target of opportunity is worth it. Hell it is glorious when my derp 122 on the SU 85 hits something at range while moving...

1. Offer to put the kid to sleep when he/she is done eating.
2. Wrap the kid an a kinda thick swaddle blanket.
3. Grab a passifier (passy) and put it on the computer desk near your keyboard.
5. Put your left or right foot on the foot of your chair (lifting the left or right knee).
6. Put the kid's head on that same leg that is lifted. (from step 3)
7. Let the kid's side against the desk to keep him/her locked in so they don't fall when you
use both hands on the keyboard and mouse...
8. Open world of tanks.
9. Pick tank.
10. Click on Battle.
11. Bounce your lifted leg gently.
12. Kid starts whining.
13. Grab passy and stick it in the kids mouth... (please don't quote and add any subs)
13. While grabbing passy you forgot about auto drive and your now surrounded by E75's
and E100's.
14. Your own arty 1 shot's you because they missed the E100 and the splash kills you.
15. You start crying.
16. Steal the passy from your kid.
17. Go grab a second passy for the kid.
18. Go back to step 5.
19. Skip step 13-18 FTW.
20. Kid falls asleep.
21. Keep passy in your mouth, it makes you a winner. (again, please funny quotes and subs here)
22. Keep the kid on your lap.
22. Keep winning for a couple hours each night.

Yes, I'm on my second newborn. Sometimes it's helpful to have a diaper and wipes near the desk .

I think I tried that. He spitup all over the keyboard.

Auto aim in sniper mode is an awful idea. In fact, it's generally awful in all circumstances except high speed close range battles (i.e. swirling medium tanks). At long range, autoaim will still lock on to the middle of the hull, even if that part is behind cover. So if you're up against a hull down tank and trying to snipe you will miss almost every shot. The sensitivity of your mouse can be set independently for normal and zoomed mode. Crank the sensitivity down on zoomed mode.

Many higher tiered tanks have invulnerable sections and weak points. If you want to hang at T7 or higher you will need to aim every shot. Personally, I hardly ever take a shot without zooming in and aiming at a particular point on the tank. For example, against a Tiger 2 you must shoot the lower glacis, against the IS4 you must shoot the driver's hatch, against a KV-5 you must shoot the radioman's turret and against a Tiger P you must shoot the turret.

Even when your aiming circle is as large as your target (i.e. at long ranges), the circle is center weighted. Therefore, you're more likely to hit in the middle than at the edges. It is critical to aim your shots at long range. Even if it seems like half the circle is off the target by aiming at the lower hull or turret when sniping, if that is the area you can penetrate, the center of your reticle needs to be on the weak spot. I would suggest weening yourself off autoaim immediately. The sooner you can get rid of it, the sooner you can go up a level in game play.

The only time I use auto aim is when I'm focusing on multiple tanks and trying to find ground that is advantageous to me. I use it only to get squared on a tank I'm about to shoot.

Before I shoot, I always fine tune my aim by switching to manual. But it does allow me to swing the turret around if it's facing a different direction and then I can concentrate on driving. Obviously, I'm usually driving a fast medium when doing this.

All I'm saying is that it has it's purposes but in general I think it aims too high, especially from long distances and you usually bounce.

autoaim is worthless for all but close range dog-fighting with a fast firing gun (think t-34 or easy8 circling a su-8). Even on dogfights with the t-54, you can do manual aiming (not sniping) while on the go with much better results than auto-aiming. Auto-aim automatically aims for the toughest part of the tank, the turret, and as a result you will have many many more bounces and glances than if you took the time to aim for the glacis.

Especially a bad idea on tanks with low pen guns where you REALLY need to hit soft spots. All of my steel walls are from guys that auto aim.

I have a newborn at home. I only get to play for up to two hours on Saturday and Sunday morning. If you have a string of bad matches, no real exp.

Yeah, I'm super busy with work, scouting, normal household stuff, plus I'm trying to go to bed by 9:30 every night to get better and more restful sleep, so my time is severely limited. I game to release stress and tension and it really helps, but don't have a ton of spare time to do so.

Victory!
Battle: Erlenberg Tuesday, September 13, 2011 9:43:47 PM
Vehicle: VK 3001 (P)
Experience received: 3,950 (doubled for the first victory each day)
Credits received: 47,868
Battle Achievements: Master Gunner

Almost all auto-aim.

Say what you want about auto aim, but when you are dancing with one opponent and firing at another, auto aim *is* the way to go. Actually, any time you are doing technical driving, auto aim is very helpful.

The auto-aiming is bullshit and there's no two ways about it. Put me up against an auto aimer and I will win 100% of the time.

Press Capslock + 0 (not the numpad)

You'll see a blue crosshair. That's where the server thinks you're aiming.

You're welcome.

Now stop using that worthless auto aim and AIM for once.

Also if your aim is shaking when you get hit, turn off "vibration when hit" in the menu. Yes, that's actually an option.

Shooting at anything and everything is ok on those smaller guns. When you get to guns though that cost 1000+ every time they go boom, you'll become more careful in what you shoot (or pay massive ammo costs).

I don't particularly try for sharpshooter, and I take plenty of "risky" shots... I just tend to hit them. My Lowe, T29 and T32 all have accuracy rates of about 85%.

yea i tend to not bother shooting if a tank is at < 5% or so as it's not cost effective when ammo is 1250+

I always shoot 5% tanks, regardless of how much it might cost. one dead tank means one less gun on the field and your team more likely to win. To me, the prize of winning will always offset the cost of losing.

i lost count of how many times a t-44 or t-20 at 5% has somehow won the game for us. (i have also limped along with 20 hp and gotten 2-3 more kills after that).

Yeah, I'll shoot them if they are at any level of health. An enemy is an enemy and only good one is a dead one. Personally, I dont worry about shell costs. Never have. I play with premium and have tanks that can generate creds so its not a problem for me. I always make sure I have a nice safe surplus of creds on hand. If anything I'd be more worried about running out of shells because some tanks have a small supply of them. I have never run out though. I have come close a few times with certain tanks but that has not yet happened.

i've almost run out of shells in my is-4 when there's tons of other t9's and 10's in the battle

lowest I got was 3 HE shells left on my IS-4. Had been fighting a bunch of heavies around the north village in campinova and nobody seemed to be willing to help except for the occasional arty shots. By the time I was done I had about 100 hp and 3 shells left.

I have run out of ammo on my Stug. It was an epic game though.

edit, of course I have run out of ammo playing arty, but the stug was the only non arty I ran out with.

Came home tonight. Played through some tanks grabbing the daily double points. Decided what the hell. Bought a T-59 tank. Grabbed a GunRammer and Gun Laying device. The tank is quick I'll give it that. Nimble. The 100mm gun isn't anything to brag about but it does do decent damage. Never played the T-54 so cant say how it compares to it. I have played a T-43 & T-44 back in beta. Its better than a T-44 most assuredly.

Only played three battles. First battle I killed one and damaged five other tanks and then got killed. Got 71k creds and over 2300 xp (daily double). Not too shabby. Second battle was 41k creds I think and second was like 32k creds. Survived last two battles. The teams won all three battles so that helped.

People I been talking to in game seem to think the three equipment mods to get are Vent, Gun rammer, and Gun Laying device. I'll grab Vent next for my third choice. I'll play around with it more tomorrow. Need to sleep first. I think I'm going to like this tank. Is it worth 7500 gold? I dunno. Depends on how people feel about spending money for a tank. I got a sneaking suspicion the answer is going to be yes in my case. We'll see though. Need more testing but it looks like its going to be a good money maker.

usually i'm not alone so i just wait for a teammate to finish them off while i "reload"

I'll go for the kill every time, though I always shoot at the tank with the least amount of damage.

I had an awesome game last night. Killed 2 Easy 8's with <10%, then a t29 with <25% and then I killed 7 more with 25-100% including a KV and T1 from 100% down in my VK3601H. Got Boilter's medal (changed from Wittmann's?), Top Gun, Steel Wall, Sniper, Master Gunner, Sharpshooter and Reaper. Wasn't my best game ever but definitely the best one last night and the best one in the VK3601.

Use my Lowe to make up for my inefficiencies.

Wondering if it's worth getting and running around with like my T54... If it's better than T44 but considered a Tier 8, maybe it is? I don't know.

I should point out that I'm basing it against the T-44 of beta days. I haven't played in a T-44 since Beta ended. Since then the Devs have tweaked the tier balance system two or three times. I wish I had a T-54 to test it against but I only have a T34/58 in that line right now. People are saying its like a T-54 but not quite as good. I hear comments like it can't take a hit as well as a T-54. I also hear its deadly fun in a wolf pack group. Which makes sense considering how fast and agile it is. I haven't tried that yet.

Edit: Just some stats to throw out from one fight. Just had a good battle. I damaged 7 tanks and had zero kills but team won with me at about 15%-20% life left on The Mines map. I figured the haul wouldn't be much but surprisingly I got 1,471 xp and 95,913 credits. I guess performance wise this thing is in between a T-44 and a T-54 but where it really shines is in credit making like the KV-5 and Lowe. I had 1 AP shell left so I fired 19 times. One or possibly two misses. I know I missed once for sure. Repair cost was 14,234 creds. The 100mm is like the others. Not a killing gun per se but does do decent damage unless up against the really big guns.

Edit2: Hummel just dropped a shell on top of me head while on the move at full speed. 100% to 0% in a blink of an eye. Ouch! it was a nice shot on his part though.
