Why does BB = battleship and DD = destroyer though? Where does this come from? Ive seen that before in an older game called navyfield. CA meant heavy cruiser somehow...

Those are due to the system requiring a minimum 2 symbol limit for designations, so they just repeat the first digit.

Anyone have any idea as to when (as in what year) the game will open to the general public?

Feel kinda foolish for signing up for the beta ... And never receiving an invite.

It's still in closed beta but you can get in by buying one of their premium ships. So ya gotta spend at least $30, but I couldn't wait any longer so I decided to buy the Russian ship. I love the game so IMO it's worth it but YMMV.

So what ship is currently the best premium ship to get (since we all know in WoT there are definitely winners and losers... unfortunately nothing is immune from the nerf bat, but most premiums don't get nerf'ed too bad).

I'm not sure. There's two different classes of ships (one Cruiser and two Destroyers) so it's kind of hard to say which one is better, but maybe someone else can tell you which is the better Destroyer.

Destroyers require a good amount of skill to play effectively, as someone said they're like the T49 of WoWS - a light, fast ship with good damage but don't get hit.
Cruisers are generalists and easier to play IMO.

How about those destroyers with 5+ torpedo launchers? Seems as long as you can close range enough those should be sure hits.

The problem I've seen (I'm in no way a great player, just my own observations) is getting too close to Battleships and mid-high tier Cruisers will get you raped by their secondaries, so torps still need to be dropped a few KM's away, or on a hit and run, zooming off to get an island between you and the enemy.

Yes, but you can CTRL + Left-click to mark specific targets (when in range) if desired.

Which you should always do as you get a 50% bonus to damage on both AA and secondaries on targeted stuff.

Ctrl click planes, ctrl click ships. EVERY TIME. Hell, I click on planes when they are first spotted just in case they fly over me for the bonus.

Just had a funny match...after playing around I alt-tabbed out to watch a movie, then alt-tabbed back in. Must have done something to the connection because when I went into a random with my Omaha, I had a constant 300-400 ping and lag, rubber-banding etc the entire match.
Still, for some unknown reason I managed to predict shots and ship warping pretty well and got top xp...was odd but nice.

P.S I'm currently enjoying pixel ships more than pixel tanks. I think I'm burnt out on WoT.

I'm having a hard time with the DDs now past about Tier 5, especially the US. The concealment range is higher than your torpedo range, most of the cruisers have scout planes, and you get wrecked by secondaries inside of 5km. The smoke mechanic is iffy at best too when it comes to trying to hide.

Not that I know of (tank inspector-type thing), but if you look a bit on the World of Warships forums, you can find posts that people have made where they highlight the citadel locations for ships. Long story short, they're usually under the smokestacks and main guns IIRC.

I try and aim for those regions if I'm super close to someone, otherwise I find it pointless because the shots spread so much if I'm any farther than like 3 km away.
