Dumb question: do we get to keep the premium ships? I ended up with a Murmansk something or other premium. Probably from the humble bundle.

Yes you are supposed to keep premium ships when the game goes live, but this is based on the premium ships you currently have to pay for. Not sure how it works with a ship gotten through this code, but I don't see why it'd be any different.

Is it common for a destroyer to take out a battleship?

I saw one do this in a jingles video, the destroyer got up close and wrecked it with torpedos.

yes.

DD > BB > CA > DD is generally how it goes. Although if you're USN it's harder to torp on lower tiers due to 5KM torps and BB secondaries being > 5km.

Sounds about right. I've been able to take out battleships with my destroyers (I play Japanese ones exclusively, so far, cause their torps aren't shit and that's my style of play). You can sneak to within about 6km or so usually with IJN destroyers (the ones I've played so far), and with a torp range of say 10km, you can easily launch torps on a battleship without being spotted. Using a ship with a fast torp reload, you can launch wave after wave invisible. Unless one of those damn spotter planes flies overhead or your AA starts going off.

That reminds me... how do you turn off AA? I've seen a couple people reference it but I haven't been able to see how to do it.

To turn off AA hit "p".

It's been fun, but not perfect. Fun, zero depth compared to a "potbs" port battle, but requires much less time and schedule investment. That's my take so far.

they're adding a lot more equipments/consumables/abilities and a redone tree in the 0.4.0 public test this weekend.

New Consumables We can hardly imagine a destroyer without a smoke screen or a battleship which cannot repair herself on the move with the Repair work consumable. Starting with the 0.4.0 update, ships will have up to four slots, letting you pick and choose which consumables to bring with you into battle. Currently only cruisers are spoiled for choice, but that will change in the future.

Now each type of consumable will have its upgraded version – boasting shorter cooldowns thus letting everyone play more effectively. Unlike their standard counterparts, however, these need to be resupplied after each battle, even if not used.

Anybody who thinks Reconnaissance Aircraft should get a nice buff, raise your hands. We thought so. This consumable will now be divided into two types: Spotting Aircraft and Fighters – both will be available for battleships, the former now extending the effective firing range of main batteries; while most cruisers will only be able to launch the latter, which will be playing a reconnaissance role as well as fighting off pesky bombers.

Did we say new consumables? Yes, we did! Destroyers are getting an Engine Boost consumable, which increases their top speed as well as acceleration and breaking. Cruisers, on the other hand, will get Hydroacoustic Search ability, which temporarily raises the absolute detection range on which you can spot enemy torpedoes and ships. Not only that, this consumable will allow you to see through smoke screen, forcing enemies to quickly change their plans and flee.

Camouflage Alpha testers might already be familiar with in-game camouflage, which first came together with Iwaki Alpha, a gift vessel for active participation in Closed Alpha test. In Update 0.4.0, we are implementing this concept by introducing one type of “spotted camouflage” for CBT participants. You will be able to apply this camouflage on any ship with varying patterns on vessels of different nations. A camouflaged ship will get a bonus to her concealment properties in a battle and enemies firing at her will have slightly reduced accuracy.

Improved and New Commander Skills Being able to train your commander is just another nice layer of customization that we are offering in the game and Update 0.4.0 will bring welcome changes and revisions of this feature based on your feedback. Number of irrelevant skills will be removed (Aerial Reconnaissance waves goodbye) and some will be replaced. Of course, that’s not all – we are introducing 7 new skills to spice up the skill tree and make your choices further reflect your playstyle. Would you like to know more? Just another reminder that this is still in closed beta and they have a ton of stuff they're still going to add.

I finally got enough on my American cruiser line to pick up the Cleveland last night. It took quite a long time cause too often I didn't even break 1000 XP playing a cruiser. Yet for a pretty mediocre game while playing my tier 6 or 7 Japanese destroyer I'd get 3,000+ XP. I should've kept track of the rounds/stats but I'm gonna see if I can see game details via the WoWS website (just found they had one and put it in my sig).

Anyway, from the vids I've seen on YouTube the frickin Cleveland is one badass mofo (OP?). A good ship like this is perfect for a crappy player like myself. Can't wait to try it out.

I just wish I could get "turn off AA" to work. Apparently the default is the 'P' key, but I had that bound to "Lock Reticle." So I rebound "Lock Reticle" to 'G' and tried hitting 'P.' No dice. Reset my controls to default. Nothing. Found I could edit the command_mapping_config.xml file in the /res/ folder. Sure enough, "CMD_SWITCH_ATBA_AIRDEFENSE" is bound to 'P' but no matter if I change to it another key or leave it, it still doesn't work. Bah. :-/

The exp is skewed due to them still not normalizing. It includes your 1.5x, this past weekend's 3x, premium, etc. So yes, an average win this past weekend should get you 3k easy, add in premium and you are pushing 4k. Get a good win and you can easily get 5+k.

Yes, the Cleveland seems a nice crutch for us crappy players. Smothering fire. I find Cleveland a little fragile but maybe that's just me. Keep moving. I try to.

What's broke? Divisions are causing some people problems. Torpedo plane drops are a bit too close now, in my (and others) opinion.

The devs seem a little zany (to me) balance-wise.

Anyone want in the CBT? I don't have any (no reason I would), but CBT keys show up on the forums from time to time now, I think especially since CBT is ending soon. When? Who knows -

Edit: Open Beta starts Thursday June 25, according to the news post. Estimate server up after 10 AM ET. Quite a few changes...

Edit2: Hold the phone! (there's an old one). It may be that only CBT players get access to OBT starting tomorrow on the NA server, with the real OBT opening in a few days. So...there you have it. I'd suggest looking it up tomorrow. Or some other day.

I played the new 0.4.0 patch last night for a couple hours or so after they wiped everything. I don't think the Open Beta has started yet, though. I did at first but I think they just wiped in anticipation of it, but it should be soon as far as I understand.

So I haven't gotten to see much of the new stuff in the game, besides some new sounds and small graphical improvements (a battleship broadside firing looked awesome now). I got to use the engine boost consumable for destroyers which is pretty nice. I did play a game with my Arkansas Beta ship (battleship) and I did fairly well actually, one of my better games.

Other than that, just re-grinding everything but I actually don't care too much cause I love playing the game. Man, that frickin Umikaze's torpedo reload speed is incredible, lol. You can just lay down spread after spread of torpeedus.

Yeah, I think OBT is very soon though, possibly next week. That said, I am grinding my way back into the ships I liked. It was nice that we got a decent start in terms of captain skills on our starting ships. The new skilltree is also very interesting (I really like that situational awareness is a 1 point skill now, as that grind sort of sucked on all my DD captains).

I won't be playing until the game goes live. I don't trust any of their claims after the humble bundle key deal because their mouthpiece obviously isn't connected to the decision makers in any way shape or form.

just logged in since the patch, nice old arkansas is there but the 1000 gold I had before is gone.

Tier VII Japanese Carrier is pretty insane. 3x bombers and 3x Torpedo bombers. I was in my Tier VI American carrier. My 1 fighter group go overrun and then I died to the rest.

First time fighting against it. Didn't realize it could field so much. Need to tell the team they need to provide me with AA next time.

ugh they changed it so you can't go from starter cruiser to tier 2 destroyer. and having to do those tier 2 cruisers soooooooo bad. reason I went destroyer line mostly before.
