I searched and didn't find this... hopefully it's not a repeat.

Advance Auto Parts has a special going on now for 5 quarts of mobil 1 synthetic oil (includes "high mileage" and "extended performance") plus a mobil one oil filter for $29.99.

This is a very sweet deal for those of us that drive and put decent quality oils in our vehicles. The oil alone is usually more than this price!

I think it's B&M only, but not sure. I believe it runs through March 24th.

YMMV since I'm am not sure if this is a regional or nationwide promo.

If you're due for an air filter or cabin filter at the same time, you get an extra $2 off of air/cabin filters with the purchase of any of their Oil Change Specials (there are some other than the mobil 1).

Enjoy.

Good deal. Thanks for the info, I don't need an oil change for another 3000 miles but I might just grab it for later.

Yeah, I'm actually thinking of stocking up for my next few oil changes. Makes it worth it to step up to full synthetic instead of blends.

Just wanted to mention that AAP will normally substitute any other brand of filter if Mobil 1 doesn't make one for your car (as in my case - they make one for the LS V6 but not the V8).

Sweet deal, thanks for the info! I already run Mobile 1 in my car and this is a great way to save a few bucks.

Good price for this. But be aware that if you change your oil every 3000 miles it's kind of a waste to put synthetic into your vehicle.

Agreed... that's why you get the synthetic and change every 5000 or 7500 miles (depending on driving habits/conditions, etc.)

Or do like I do, only use it in the winter months. You can't beleive the difference it makes when starting and warming your motor up on a sub zero degree day

That is a great point, plus the overall cost of doing it yourself each year is really only $50-$100 more than most conventional oils anyway. If you plan to keep your car for a while, you will appreciate the engine lasting longer and running better. Less repairs are often needed, and you probably will see cost savings in the end.

Don't use synthetic if you have ANY kind of oil leak though, as it will leak much faster than conventional oil.

I got in on this yesterday. Great deal. My car uses 0w40 so the oil alone is running almost $40.

I thought once you went to syn you could not go back

BTW, not take any steam away from the OP as it is a very good deal. You might check out Pepboys as I paid $40 (AR/AC) for a 7 qt Mobile 1 change on my 05 vette yesterday .

??? wait, are they going to change the oil for you or is this just for the oil and filter, because I was at wal-mart like 2 weeks ago and a 5 qt jug of mobil-1 was $26 and the 1 qts were 6.27. I don't know how much the filters were because I have one already.

I'm pretty sure it's do-it-yourself. I'd rather do it myself anyway so I know exactly what I did and what I put in there.

I'm due for an oil change here soon so I think I'm gonna pick this up. As mentioned before though, would I have to stick to synthetic only from now on or could I switch back and forth?

Wal-Mart does have a good price on the 5QT jugs, but they often have a poor selection (if they have Mobile 1 at all). The filter normally runs you ~$10-12 on top of it.

1) This is just for the oil and filter, they do NOT actually change your oil.

2) This includes the Extended Performance and High Mileage variants of the oil, which is better quality stuff than the walmart 5 quart jugs.

AR/AC... Is that after rebate/coupon? Which type of oil is that... there are many variants of Mobil 1... the extended performance (EP) and High Mileage versions are more expensive and that is what's included in this deal.

$40 for 7 quarts and a filter is certainly a good deal.

The Wal-Mart 0W30 5qt jug is ~$26 + tax, so with this deal you're getting a slight discount. Good enough for me

I have always wondered if you had a car that used oil that just barely passed the emissions test, would "true" synthetic help in lowering the test numbers?
Is it still hydrocarbons?

Edit: added true

$10 rebate
Don't know if it's the same or if you can stack it, but there's a $10 rebate from Mobil

Word of warning:

I don't know how much you guys are into cars - but we're probably all over the spectrum, from domestic grocery getters, to high end imports.

I drive a '98 Honda CiViC with a B16A2 swap, yada, yada, yada. Basically - a lowered 2300 LB hotrod with a 8200 RPM red line (which I often hit in the first two gears). It cruises at 3500-4500 RPM on the freeway. Lubrication is paramount to the longevity of my car!!

Having said that, if YOUR car is older than 2005 (like mine is) make sure to use HM motor oil - no matter what your state of tune!!!

Personally, I run Mobil 1 10W/30 HM (High Mileage) in my ride. It rawks!

Why is HM oil important for older cars? Because it contains the proper 'additive package' for YOUR vehicle!

Regular Mobil 1 motor oil is NOT good for older motors. It's made for 2005 and newer vehicles, which are specifically designed to run 'neutered' oil (with most of the additives removed, by mandate).

Regular motor oil (since 2005) is designed to protect emission equipment, NOT your (older) motor, sooo...

No matter what brand of oil you're using, if you drive an older vehicle, make sure to use HM motor oil - that is, if your care about your car!

I dont' want to start an e-oil-argument but would like to know where you get your info. What mandate tells oil companies to remove additives? AFAIK Mobil 1 is the opposite - it's FULL of additives, one of the reasons it's so expensive. Just simply turning a straight oil into a multiweight requires additives. Making their oil be able to last longer and still trap soot and etc. requires extra additives than normal. Ditto for all the extra protection it claims to offer. I dunno, maybe Mobil 1 has less additives than other oils, but either way it's still hella full of them.
