Those are modified ATI drivers that allow them to be installed on Mobility chips, among other things.

Installed the drivers, still no go, I don't have much experience with DVD on computers, I just use a DVD player, can I download some updated software somewhere? If I keep this puppy I have to make a decision soon. I know it looks like a driver problem but eMachines has nothing on their site, is this going to be typical of them?

UPDATE:

I've determined that it's all video that I play, MPG, AVI, any video I play has these broken lines going through the video.

I would just take it in and get a replacement, if they have a problem with it ask for a refund and go buy it from bestbuy... You'll save yourself $50 anyway, but then bestbuy has a 15% restocking fee on laptops... (or is it cc that does?)...

From what I read below (from 'BARtMAN' s link) it looks like you cannot get points when you buy online, pick up in-store. (unless you can do a return/repurchase). I was trying to do that because there is a new $10 off $150 link at fwa11et. Tax is a killer for me at $128 so I'm trying to squeeze every penny!

Reward Zone Info:

Earn Points
Earn 100 Reward Zone? points ("Points") for every $1 you spend on almost any purchase when you show your membership card ("Membership Card") at time of purchase. No adjustments to your account ("Account") will be made after the actual purchase date. Receive 5,000 bonus points the first time you make a qualifying purchase including purchase of the Membership itself. Earn additional points through special offers and promotions. Points are not added to your Account for dollars spent on online purchases, certain products or services, gift cards, sales tax, shipping charges or restocking fees. Other exclusions may apply.

Get Rewards
For every 12,500 Reward Zone? points you earn, you will automatically receive Reward Zone? certificates ("Certificate(s)") redeemable for $5 off your purchase of eligible products or services totaling $10 or more at participating Best Buy retail store locations.12,500 points are automatically deducted from your account for every $5 Certificate issued to you, and 25,000 points are automatically deducted from your account for every $10 Certificate issued to you.

For those of you that got the 5400 RPM drive, can you post serial numbers or something? They're on the outside of the box, so perhaps I can start ID'ing them this way, so those who are looking can get the 5400 RPM Hitachi drive.

I just picked one up in N. CA. It has the Hitachi 5400 RPM, 8 MB cache drive.

Drove by Starbucks on the way out of the parking lot and it picked up the tmobile wireless net...

I can't get the serial number right now.

I haven't tested for dead pixels yet, or tried DVD. BBuy "pricematched" the emachines extended warranty which was significantly less than there own.

Eric, where are you located?

Took mine back and got another. DVD plays back fine now, but I just did a pixel test and found one dead pixel, it's not entirely dead, just the red pigment. What do you guys do in these situations and is it normal?

I just like when companies are willing to stand by their product. Even a 2 year standard warranty would make me happy, I think it really sucks how they always do 1 year warranty now. I got burned before with my last laptop (a KDS). The warranty running out past one month when I had a problem, to fix it would cost double what the laptop was worth at the time. So the >3yr warranty is a must to me.

Dont a lot of credit cards double the manufacturer warranty if purchased on their card?

Yup, especially with gold and platinum cards. Check the card issuer. This is why I would never buy one of those service plans (in reality anly provide an additional year after the double warranty). Save the money for the next computer.

You probably won't do any better than 1 stuck pixel

Bummer. Just picked up the 6805 in Rockville, MD Best Buy with the $250 rebates. Got the 4200 RPM Toshiba MK6021GAS. Serial number N303C 300 04687. Guess I'll have to spend that $250 for a 7200 rpm drive (after someone confirms they work.)

I just bought an M6805 today at Best Buy.

They pricematched their 3 year extended warranty to the one on the emachine website. I got the Best Buy extended warranty (3yr) for $189.

However, I'm not sure if I like this statement in the agreement:

Technological advances may result in a replacement product with a lower selling price than the original product.

However, here is some stuff I don't like about the emachines agreement:

[*]Laptop Notebook protection will pay for labor and parts necessary to replace your laptop notebook screen should it become inoperable, but not more then twice over the term of the Contract.[*]Claims are limited to a cumulative amount of $1000 or two repairs over the term of the Contract, whichever comes first.[/LIST]

However, this statement in the emachines agreement refutes the statement in the best buy agreement that I didn't like:

We will repair your Product, replace the Product with one of equal or greater value, or reimburse you for authorized repairs, at our discretion, when required due to a Breakdown, including those experienced during normal wear and tear, which is not concurrently covered under any other warranty or service contract or any insurance policy.

I guess I think the Best Buy warranty (even with the statement I am not happy with) is better than the emachines agreement because of the $1000 cap and the 2 repairs over the life of the contract statement...wait a minute...does that make sense? The emachines product page has this statement:

A "No lemon" policy - if your product requires more than three repairs we will replace it FREE

How can they make this statement if they'll only allow two repairs over the life of the contract?

What the hell am I trying to figure out here? Any help is appreciated because I am exhausted.

You could always try to put 64-bit linux on it.

The two problems I have with it is the low resolution LCD (not all WXGA are created equal.. or very clear...) and 802.11g and I run b in my apartment.
You have problems with it running a better, faster, backwards compatible wireless networking protocol? lol
