Hello,

I am planning to by a mobile phone and subscribe to a cellular service.

What are some of the best mobile phones (makes and models) today? I hear Nokia is best.

Who offers the best, most reliable celluar service? Price is not a problem given that the service is best. AT&T?

Where is a good place to buy find these mobile phone(s) and service(s)?

I know someone who went with Verizon. I think the phone is also made by Verizon. Either the phone is bad or the service is bad because there is heavy static when talking from long distance such as out-of-state (say Las Vegas to Los Angeles).

The reason I am asking this questions is because of the bad experience described above.

Thanks,

Kuphryn

I love Verizon (NYC area). No service problems whatsoever.

Some of the older phones are pretty craptastic (especially the ones they give you for free), but I've never had any complaints about my LG-VX6000.

I found out more information from the person I mentioned whose mobile phone and service is really bad.

Model: LG
Service: Verizon

I hear very good response for Verizon. So I think the main problem is the LG mobile phone. It is no good!

I will go with Verizon or Cingular service and definitely Nokia phone. Nokia seems simple and works great.

Be sure you know how to cancel within the trial period if the service doesn't work well for you live, work, and play. (It's usually about 2 weeks.)

With that said, I'd try Verizon first, then the others.

Beware: Sprint PCS and AT&T are generally regarded as the worst for customer support. (Long hold times, discourteous CSRs, etc. Sprint reps have even been known to rudely hang up on people!). Verizon and T-Mobile are generally regarded as the best for after-sale customer support.

Also be aware of each individual company's policy regarding phone upgrades. For example, if you sign a two year contract with Verizon, you aren't allowed to upgrade your phone for cheap for 22 months, but if you sign a one year contract with Verizon, you can upgrade for cheap after only 10 months.

Do check out the Howard Forums (linked above).

I think you should get t-mobile since they are the most reliable service so far. As for the phone, I recommend a samsung flip phone or a sony ericsson.

If you're in SoCal there are two choices; Verizon and Sprint. Everything else is inferior.

General Rule of thumb:
Verizon:
Supposedly better coverage
Higher priced plans
"Older" phones
Best CS

Sprint:
Better plans
Newest phones
Comparable coverage in a lot of areas

Also, don't forget that since Verizon and Sprint are so similar network wise, if you have one you'll have coverage pretty much anywhere.

Okay. Thanks.

I'm going with Verizon and Nokia.

Although, I hear that Nokia phones do not work well with CDMA. CDMA is supposed to be the best and is supported by Verizon.

Nokia's latest CDMA phones have proven themselves to be great phones so far, at least from people's experience with them on the Sprint network.

I'm not sure where you're getting that info from... but based on my own experience and reviews, the Nokia 3589i (i think) is one of the best performing phones for Verizon. If you can't get a signal with that phone, then you won't be able to get a signal with any Verizon phone. Pluse it's triband, so it's has an analog band for emergency calls. Hope this helps you out. I would stick with Verizon... they pwn.
