Mobo boot problem "Press F1 to resume"

Every time I boot up my machine (P4 1.7, intel D850GB mobo with 512 RDRAM) it promts me to "press F1 to resume" right before the OS loads. This just started happening a few weeks ago, I don't know why. There are no errors in the error log. I tried flashing the bios, but that only added another option "F12 to boot from Network." Any ideas as to what I can do to fix it?

If my floppy drive isn't hooked up my mob prompts me to press f1 to continue... I believe most prompt you if there is an error of some sort. If you don't notice any problems then my best advice is just to disable error notification in BIOS, that way it will load without prompting you.

When I overclock too much and bios load checksum has errors and resets itself it does that.

I don't OC, and there are no errors. Any way to disable the warning??? I couldn't find it in the bios.

The only time I've seen this is like BlinderBomber said about the floppy being hooked up. Do you have a floppy? How about an LS-120? If you have an LS-120 you need to go into the BIOS and make sure the floppy interface is disabled or you will get the error you're getting. If you have a floppy let your OS boot and try to access the floppy. Does the system hang for a long period when you try this? Does it report a floppy exists at all? If your system does hang for a bit or there is no floppy you probably have a bad floppy or a bad floppy cable.

could be a loose IDE cable.

also, clearing the bios sometimes helps (yes, i know you flashed it already, but worth a try)...

on ur board are you seeing the intel logo screen during boot? i believe you can turn that off in ur bios setup, and then you should be able to see the details of ur post (what u see when a normal bios boots), and by this you might see an error .. hope this helps some ..

I'll check the cables, quiet boot is off so I see everything, no errors.

cmos battery is a little lithium ion battery, usually a CR2032 i believe.

you can just pull it out, and either test it with a multimeter or bring it to radio shack and they can test it (and sell you a new one)

yeah, it definitely COULD be a dead battery issue..

Taking out the battery will let you test to see if it is dead or not. The battery provides the juice that runs your system clock and keeps your bios settings when you system is powered down. Taking it out will reset your clock and bios settings to default.

If it is bad, replacing it could could your boot problem.
