Hey guys, my p5q mobo died...
Gave for RMA, they said it cant b repaired or replaced since there is no P45 mobo avail now...
Then i spoke to the manager n he said that i can get any new mobo i want..
So planning on switching to Sandy bridge.. Help me make a good decision.

CPU : i5 2500K (fixed)
Mobo : Asus P8P67 PRO or P8Z68-V(help me here)(for gaming n OCing?)
RAM : Ripjaws X Series 8GB CL8 or Vengeance 8GB CL9 (Vengeance in stated as only XMP qualified RAM, so which is ideal for gaming n OCing?)

as far as I can tell the only advantage the P8P67 PRO has over the P8Z68-V is that the P8P67 PRO has a firewire port, an extra eSATA port (two total), and two extra SATA6 ports (4 total)

otherwise the P8Z68-V has the superior chipset as it will allow for features such as Lucid Virtu and SSD caching

First, don't sweat the RAM for overclocking. With Sandy Bridge, overclocking is as easy as changing the multiplier.
next, be careful with your RAM choices. Most of the boards have the RAM slots too close to the CPU socket, and if you use an aftermarket CPU cooler, you run the chance of the cooler/fans interfering with the RAM with tall fins.

He offered you any new mobo you want - but with added dif in price money if involved? In other words he did not mean a $335 Gigabyte Z68 UD7 straight accross for your P5Q?
Right?

And what store is this, pray tell.

@bunnyfubbles, i dont need firewire port, eSATA port and two extra SATA6 ports. So Z68-V is ideal for me??

I am from india and Rashi peripherals is the distributor/service centre of Asus products here. So i can take any ASUS mobo only.
They have taken the value of my P5Q mobo as Rs. 7425($165), i have to pay ~$100 more for P8P67 PRO or P8Z68-V

Thanks for the info. I personally like vengeance, but CL8 is not avail in vengeance...
So shall i pick Ripjaws X as its CL8??
Are Gskill as good as corsair??

Ah, O.K.
Well that explains it - makes sense
Were it me fwiw, (gaming) I would get the P8Z68 Asus deluxe which is at superbiiz now for $249 free ship, which is no good to you in India
The Z68 has a lot of the bugs worked out that are in the P67 - in other word much more prob free and will have much longer bios support, not to mention resale value
From what you say, this would be $150 upgrade
Its your money

BTW I have a pink beret with black stripes

Edit: Vengeance has P67 Asus probs, as do ripjaws XMP - the XMP is NOT specifically Sandy bridge complianrt - per Raja@Asus. You will have to manually set ram options, in other words a lot of research
IMHO these mobo are such bigtime easy overclockers its a waste to buy trick RAM. Just buy cheap 1333 RAM 4X4GB
Do not buy any ram that doesnt boot at 1.5V
But then again, what do I know?

to be fair, if you're never going to use the on-die GPU for Quick Sync, video decoding and basic 2D/3D acceleration, and/or you're never going to use Intel's Smart Response Technology (SSD Caching) then Z68 is no better than P67 either.

otherwise yes I would say go ahead and go Z68, even if you do not have plans to use such features right now, they'll be there in the future should things change in that regard

1.65V is for stable low latency or very high speed
1.65V means heat
I bought 12 sticks of 4GB supertalent value ram @$26.95 ea. free ship on sale and put 4 sticks in booted right up never problem 1
(They did come with micron chips by luck of the draw)
Who the hell needs 2133 RAM when the CPU is going 4.7GHz, and theres no more northbridge to bottleneck RAM
You will never see a dif in daily computer use
If you are a benchmark jockey - do it
Me, I put the extra money into the vid card
