I have an MSI motherboard. Its somewhat old... 3-4 years.
Today i had to reboot it and when it came back up, it wont detect the HD. I dont think its the HD since the HD is new ... and i tried plugging in another hd along with using another ide cable and it wouldnt detect that one either. I've also had an ongoing problem where the system would slow down drastically any time i moved big files around. So i'm wondering if its possible if the onboard ide controller has fried? everything else seems to be working since it correctly detects the cpul, vid card and memory.
Oh, it does know there is a HD there because when i have it do the autodetect, it sits there for 2-3 minutes before it comes back and says there's no HD.
If i try to detect a HD on the 2nd ide channel it comes back instantly saying there's no HD. I unplugged my floppy and cd drive just to rule them out as causing problems.
I can get a chaintech board for $50 (or several other brands for around the same price) but i'd rather not waste the money, and the time in reinstalling windows, if it might be something else.
Anyone have any other suggestions?
