I am swapping my buggy EpOx 8k5A3+ for a proven stable 8K5A2+.

Will I have to do a fresh install of windows yet again? Or can I plug and play this one?

The thought of having to relaod ALL of my programs (for the 3rd time) is making me ill...

Thanks,
Mj

You should reload the OS, but if you go into the device manager and remove everything motherboard related, shut down, swap boards and then fire it up, you might get lucky. I've seen people do it, but I question if the system is really right afterwards.

Yeah, I agree. If you're not going to reformat (which is the best way to go about doing it), then remove everything motherboard related in your device manager and then shut down, switch it out, and boot back up. Hopefully everything will detect alright. However in the long run, I'd highly recommend you reformat.....:\

<---- is wildly optimistic I know

Ok, here is the plan:

1. Uninstall old MoBo
2. Install new MoBo
3. Install peripeherals
4. Slay chicken on altar of EpOx while dancing clockwise around a pit of hot coals waving hands frantically and chanting "please work, ...Please work"
5. Turn on Power

What could possibly go wrong????? (Famous last words before BSOD strikes)

I mean, for the love of GOD why is it such a PITA to change MoBo's... especially by the same maker. These 2 boards are just about the same spec anyway!

Ahhh.....I see you've found the secret to succesful MoBo swaps. For some reason not too many people know about this. It always works fine for me.

be sure and delete as much as you can from device manager beforehand, and make sure step 4 is executed perfectly

no, you do not have to reload windows. i have changed my mobo a few times and i didnt reload windows and it works just fine no instability at all.
if you want to reload windows i see no harn other than ur time. i wouldn't reload its a waist of time and energy. and it doesnt matter if you leave the old drivers in anyway because windows doesnt startup drivers if the hardware is not present it just stores them in its data base.
so install the mobo and install the drivers and leave windows the hell alone.

See, if you wait long enough someone will give you the answer you wanted to hear!
I am on this thought train (it will probably end up in "BSODVILLE") but it's worth a shot!
