Overnight, Staples removed just about every coupon from their system.... there are two that are in our database that still appear to function as of this time (who knows what happens next!)

$30 Off $150 (Exp 9/15)
$40 Off $200 (Exp 6/3)

I probably won't hear anything more about these changes until Monday, but I'll pass along what I find out!

Too bad for many of us, but good news for Staples shareholders.

In limited quantities, coupon proliferation helped to spread the word about Staples, and establish its position as a price and service leader.

But with unlimited Net-based proliferation, I imagine it was becoming counterproductive.

Those with official coupons can still call their orders in, 1 800 3STAPLES.

I'm really surprised by Staples. I think I used the same $40 off $200 like 5 times. You'd think they'd prevent you from using the same coupon twice.

I was going to say, if they had sent coupons out with those expiration dates, I would think they would have to stick to them. They must know they are being abused, but they still put out new coupons so it must be worth it for them.

I think even between FatWallet anandtech and techb*rgains we are a small percentage of Staples customers. They rip off enough customers to still make money. We dont use those coupons for just anything remember. An 'normal customer' that gets a $30 off coupon will go into staples and use it top buy an overpriced 17" monitor, staples still makes money. Just because we dont fall for that, doesn't mean others won't.

i was in an actual staples b&m yesterday - they made so much money in the 10 minutes i was in there...people paying full price for maxtor hard drives, 3 people bought visors or palms at full price plus a bunch of accessories...in the grand scheme of things the anandtech effect is a small ripple in staples universe

Staples isn't losing money when people like you and me use coupons; They're making making more money. We wouldn't pay full price anywhere (including Staples). By using coupons, they're capturing more of the market. Take a look at this link. The extra revenue Staples gets is in yellow.

I must be missing something here - I printed out some $25 off $100 coupon code numbers last night and hit three different Staples today before noon EST and they all worked.
