This may not be "this year's model", but it is an excellent shaver for an excellent price. I've had a slightly different one for over two years, for which I paid about $130 (after searching for months for the best price), and like it much better than my previous, top-of-the-line Norelco and Braun, although I have not tried their very newest models. In the past month, this shaver has appeared twice in my Gold Box.

FWIW, I got a very similar model (mine has different coloring, and has a single light to show battery charge instead of the scale) a little less than a year ago from overstock for about $69. I'm very happy with it.

This just came up in my gold box also. I think Amazon is trying to dump them. Maybe great reviews, but $75 is still a lot for a shaver.

Anybody have any experience with how often these blades need to be replaced. That is $20 to $40 per pop right there.

I've never had to replace the blades in an electric. The batteries usually die before they get bad enough (3-4 years), and by then I just replace the entire thing. The first time I had a set of batteries die in an electric razor, I replaced them for about $30 (proprietary batteries), and then a couple of months later the charging electronics died. Learned my lesson after that.

The blades do need to be replaced periodically. In fact, I have had an older, double blade model Panasonic that needed two replacements before the batteries died. I thought they should last forever too, but looking at the users manuals it seems like they recommend frequent replacement (3 to 6 months if I remember correctly). I did it like every 1 to 2 years, but it still seemed expensive.

Jeff, I know they SAY you should replace the blades (read: we should continue making money off of you from consumables), but I've never felt like the blades NEEDED replacing. But, I don't use an electric as my sole razor... just a pre-shave before shaving with a blade, so maybe I'm not as critical as some.

The Gold Box news is helpful for many people. It reminds some to check their Gold Box when they would have forgotten. For others, it prevents them from grabbing one of the first deals shown as they hold out hope for the deal that they've read about here on AT. For this (second) reason, I appreciate it when people post about their great finds, so that I know what could potentially await me in numbers 2, 3, 4 or 5.

Now, back on topic. This is very tempting...I've been using blades for the past few years, but if one of these pops up in my GB I might have to think about switching? I wonder if Amazon would let me return it if I didn't like it.

It is not a brag and moan thread, because it serves as notice to check one's gold box. Items are offered in waves and as long as they are current, these serve threads serve as useful tools. I don't often have time to go through my many gold boxes but when I see a thread saying there's a good offer, I'll check them. I got my olympus cameras this way(d-40 and 3020) as well as this shaver.

I read this thread because it interested me and it served me well. I appreciate the poster's efforts and am disappointed by your callous disregard for others. If you have a problem, please whine about it to a moderator instead of crapping on others' threads with your insolent attitude.
