Monday's ad is on the back of the front newspaper section (Section A back page). The specials are good Monday and Tuesday. They're not as exciting as the Friday and Saturday specials. I'm guessing that they're tapering down to fall into line with every other Fry's Labor Day specials. They still have the ECS mobo/Athlon 1800+ special, plus a whole page of advertised specials. Take a break from eating BarBQ today and check it out.

Guess I'll walk down and get another paper.

Ok, took a peek at it. The ECS mobo/Athlon 1800+ is a little different than the one Friday. The good? Retail/boxed CPU and no rebates to mess with. $69.99 Has me wondering if I want to do a slight upgrade on my system....

I've done a little research on the ECS K7s5A mainboard with the Athlon XP 1800+ combo. It turns out that you can upgrade the BIOS, using an (ahem!) aftermarket BIOS flasher. Here is some reading for you. YMMV, and it's at your risk. At that same site, check the downloads for ECS K7s5A page. It has both official drivers and un-official BIOS, etcetera.

No. Fry's doesn't know anything about technology.

They are building a Fry's very near my house in Concord Ca, going to open is November or December. Won't have to drive 40 miles each way to Fremont anymore. It was going to open last year but was pushed back when the economy went south. Fry's held out until the city offered several $million in credits.

There is another ad in todays paper, but the deals have gotten progressively lukewarm since the first two days.

Quick rule of thumb with Fry's

When they have a smoking sale, it's one day only. After that you get the normal sales which are good in itself but usually aren't Smoking no matter what the ad says.

If you see a 4 hour sale, I have found those to be the best sales all year.

Pricematches are YMMV. Circuit City refused to pricematch KOTOR because it was a "grand opening" sale.
