Perhaps I've been up too long, but I don't quite understand what you've attempted to say with this sentence. Could you rephrase?

Moderation is required to maintain control and a civilised forum. It does not take many anti-social posters to trash this society and threads. Those few disproportionately ruin an unregulated society.

Some degree of moderation is required to maintain a community. Moderators would still be needed to prevent egregious abuse of the forum, like, say, flooding the forum with Viagra spam posts.

However, when the moderation becomes so heavy-handed that even the slightest infraction causes a mod to edit the offender's post and issue a warning, moderator action can very quickly become more disruptive and damaging to the community than the actual offending behavior. I've stopped participating in some of the tech forums here for that very reason.

I understand that moderation decisions can be a bit of a balancing act, but given the nature of this forum, I'd rather that balance err on the liberal side. (For you conservatives, that's liberal as in freedom )

An absolutely rotten idea for a political forum, where by its nature blocks are often defined by partisan ideology rather than your apparent ideal society composed of members standing by with honest pragmatism.

I don't agree. I think that outside of a handful of idiots and partisan hacks, most posters here are fairly reasonable. And the posters that aren't reasonable tend to spew their bullshit outside of P&N as well, and would be voted accordingly.

Holding a view about something objectively, factually incorrect is not a valid opinion. It is wrong.
