Hi all,
I have recently bought a used Athlon XP Mobile 2600+ that has been modded already. It was used sucessfully in a dually IWILL board stable at 2.4GHz. I am now trying to use it in a single cpu board that is know to overclock a different mobile to 2.4GHz stable.

The mods that have been made are:
-The L5 PowerNow bridge has been cut.
-L11 bridge was modified with conductive paint to raise the default startup Vcore to 1.6 volts.

I am having issues getting it stable above 2300MHz. I am a vetran overclocker so I know what I am doing. But perhaps I am missing something? Can a modded cpu be put back into a single cpu motherboard and still work normally? Are these mods reversible?

Any ideas or information is much appreciated.

First off, what board are you running the Mobile Xp in?

I can't see where you would need to disable PowerNow, or reset default voltage unless this is being used in a non-overclockers board that cannot control voltages via BIOS. If this is the case, then the problem is solved..case closed as it were. If not, we need to see specs of the setup that you are using.

I have run the same chip (unmodded) at 2.6 gHz on air, for months on end in one of my other setups.

Is it possible that your chip is stuck at 1.6v? My XP Mobile needs 1.80v to be stable at 2400mhz.

It is a Biostar M7NCG 400. I wondered about the voltage too. According to two different monitoring programs, the voltage is getting changed.

I'm rock solid at 1.725 (in BIOS) volts for 2.4 gHz with 28C ambient, on air. You shouldn't need over 1.7 volts actual for 2.3 ugHz unless the CPU itself is damaged. I only need 1.625 volts actual for 2.3 gHz @ 200 mHz FSB..

Thanks for the replies. The fomer owner of this CPU said that it ran perfectly on his Abit NF7 at 2.5GHz+ at 1.7x volts. I am wondering if my BIOS doesn't like that fact that it shows up as MP (multiprocessor) at least according to CPU-Z.

I could try it out in my brother's Abit AN7 but that would be a major pain to do right now. The only other thing I can think of assuming all in the first sentence is correct, is the CPU or motherboard has been damaged either during transport or during installation. (He mailed the cpu to me; I am trying to get a beefier mobile, I had another 2600+ mobile already in there at 12x197 stable. The max stable fsb on this board is 200fsb. I have overclocked several other T'breds and Bartons in this mobo very sucessfully.

Does anyone know a lot about bridge mods? It is possible that his BIOS could accept those mods but not mine? It will boot at about 2200MHz and be stable in Windows. I am using it right now. Prime95 fails at all speed/voltage combinations so far. I will try a few more things and let you know of any change.

This is the CPU at fleaBay: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi...&rd=1&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWN%3AIT&rd=1

Something isn't right. You don't need CPU mods to run a Mobile on an NF7 board, except the S2. Why is it modded?

The original owner ran it in a dual chip motherboard. Many Athlon XP mobiles can run in dual cpu mode. He modded the chip so that it would be recognized as a Athlon MP on that board, and so that the start up (default) voltage would be 1.6v (according to him). He also tells me it worked perfectly in his Abit NF7 (can't remember if it was an "S" ver2.0 or just the regular NF7). See the link above, he says some stuff in the auction.
