Is there any software that serves as a bridge between two modems/phone lines? Either that or how hard would it be to make software to do so?
A year ago we moved to cell phones-only and got rid of our land-line phone. However, in a recent job change I need to ability to dial in using a machine for work to download data.
I have a Nokia 3585i and know that you can hook it up to the computer (through the serial port) to make data and fax calls. The driver that Nokia provides will make Windows XP treat it as a regular modem, with dialing abilities and everything.
However, what I need is a program so that I can hook the machine into a modem on my computer and have the computer mirror the data (bit-for-bit, byte-for-byte) between the cell phone and the machine (basically, between two modems), to serve as a bridge or relay.
I'd be very surprised if this software wasn't already available. If not, any suggestions on how hard it would be to make it? I have rudimentary Vis BASIC, JAVA, and C programming skills.
