why is it that when i read something off of my cdrom my 56k modem disconnects? i never had this problem till i got my aopen ak77-8xn motherboard. i have windows xp. anyone know what this could be?
Your CDROM makes the modem dc cause of three things. Firstly your modem is software control meaning it uses the cpu, Secondly your CDROM is on PI0 mode and P10 mode uses up to 100% of the cpu power when in use. This means the software modem is cut off from the cpu cause lack of power due to the PI0 mode hoging it all. Hope this helps.
I forgot to say there are things you can do to fix this. If your bios can handle DMA and the link to the CDROM can be use in DMA then replace the CDROM with on that can use DMA. However if the link is only PI0 mode then not much can be done of this. You can also go pick up a hardware controler modem and this will mean the modem it self has it's on cpu and does not need power from the cpu to run. There's prob other ways but thoes are what I know.
