Hey guys, I am having a problem with my system. It is a dual boot win 98/XP pro. Everything works fine under win98. But when I use my modem to go online in XP it will work the first time, but then if I logoff or get booted off and try to log back on again, it hangs at the ?verifying username and password? and then eventually times out. I have to reboot before I can logon again.
I checked the USR website for XP drivers but they only have WIN2K for this particular modem (3594-OEM) US Robotics 56K voice win internal. I downloaded and installed them but it did not help. I also downloaded the latest version(7.0) of the AT&T software but it still does it. Any suggestions?

Sys Specs:
ASUS A7V266
AMD XP1700+
Win98 / Win XP Pro (Dual Boot)
256 Mb pc2100 ddr ram
USR 56k Voice Win int modem
32 mb nvidia tnt2 m64 video card
Onboard c-media sound
Zone alarm 2.6

well, maybe if u're both lucky and patient there will be a driver update for u, otherwise windows xp is hopeless with unsupported hardware. I've switched back to windows 2k for a similar reason.

I believe that microsoft didn't put a huge amount of effort into getting 56k modems to work well with XP because they believed that most people would be on DSL or cable which is a little short sighted....there's still lot's of 56k users out there.

This seems to be confirmed by the lack of "Standard Modem" or "Standard 56000kbps Modem" drivers available built in.

We have 2 systems here that are good examples:

1. Windows XP Professional - Motorola 56k Winsoft Modem, No XP Drivers but the W2k ones work fine
2. Windows XP Home - Intel Ham v90 Modem, Disk says it has XP Drivers but they are just W2k drivers copied into a folder called WinXP and we just cannot get it to work.

Some modems will be fine, others won't.

What I have found is that Zonealarm is what is causing the trouble.. Apparently Zonaalarm 2.6 is not campatible with XP. you have to upgrade to Zonealarm pro 3.0 for XP campatability............... to bad it's not free.
Thanks all..........
