Can somebody help me either make a bios or mod my stock bios. My card has proven to be a rock solid overclocker and really just want to be able to just plop the card into a system and not have to do anything else to have it run at overclocked settings.

I googled and searched for 3 minutes and didn't find what I was looking for.

Can anybody lead me in the right direction?

You know I think its safer to just have afterburner or whatever you use overclock on startup. If your card becomes unstable down the line with the modded bios its a bit of a pain to put it back to stock cause you may not be able to boot with it properly.

Oh okay. Lol I completely forgot about that...and I have 6950s.

Have you tried using Radeon Bios Editor? I don't know if the 7 series cards are supported yet though.

Can't you just use RBE to save your current BIOS, modify it and re-flash? It should be as easy as that.

Unless something has changed in the last week or two, RBE doesn't currently work with the 7900 series. The RBE author said he doubts support will come soon if ever because the drivers prevent easy bios modding. Something about every time a new driver comes out it breaks compatibility with RBE.

Wow, I didn't know that. Interesting. I didn't know there was direct interaction between the driver and BIOS. I assumed the BIOS settings were strictly a startup/initialization starting point for the drivers to go off of.

So couldn't one just revert back to a driver that is compatible with RBE make the changes you need flash bios. Then update to new drivers, if you ever need to modify anything else just load old drivers again?

nah, i don't think bios modding can wreck havoc to your driver, especially if it was just to increase the gpu clock.

This was posted by BAGZZlashhttp://www.techpowerup.com/forums/member.php?u=50168 (author of RBE) over at TPU in regards to 7970 support:

"Sorry, I'm afraid it's not coming any soon. You see, first of all I don't have a lot of spare time for this at the moment. Second, the structure of the BIOS changed to a noticable degree with the 7xx0 generation cards, so supporting them would be a lot of effort to put in. And third, it's pointless to put in all the effort just to see that the catalyst drivers block any changes to the BIOS anyway.

Well, currently I'm thinking about giving the project out of my hands. What I need is a trustworthy VB6 coder that is skilled to some degree (requirements are not too high) and willing to maintain my (a little sloppy written) code. Maybe you can spread the word and find someone."

Hard to tell exactly what he's referring to it looks like a combination of drivers and the stock bios are causing difficulties. Hope a good programmer steps up and continues the RBE support.

oh, its not because after they modified the bios it will break the driver but you can't modify bios if your driver version is not supported by RBE because the catalyst driver prevent you from modifying the bios.

so if you already modified the bios in your card, the modified bios will not cause any trouble even after upgrading your driver, but maybe the new driver prevent the RBE from modifying the bios, so thats why the author always need to bypass this protection in every new release driver.

Who is responsible for RBE? Is it a dead project?

I think it is more or less dead. I hardly see a point to the bios switch considering there is nothing you can really do with the other bios.

My card does 1150 on stock volts and can quite easily do 1250 with 1.26v, I would love to have a second bios loaded with either one of those settings.

Don't you think a 30% overclock with the flick of a switch would be bada$$?

I was just thinking that I wonder what language he used to make the bios editor. Was hoping for VB.NET but i'm still ok with vb6. I just don't have the time nor any 79xx cards to work with anyways. Would have been a cool project to mess with.

Maybe make a post in the programming section of the forum here. Lots of VBers out there!
