Granted I am very far from knowing everything there is to know about computers but I have to say that &quot;I don't know&quot; is one of my more popular answers...no one can ever tell me I am wrong.

Also, dont assume that just because someone works in retail that they are trying to skimp by and earn their $6/hour. I for example pull in $17/hour and earn stock options and bonuses for my departments performace. Not bad for a job to work while I'm in school. Go retail!!

The point of my first comment was that you walk in and find retail people frustrating to deal with, while myself on the other side of the fence find some customers frustrating to deal with.

I just didnt appreciate the general looking down the nose attitude people were posting with. A lot of people walk into a store like mine and think that because I'm sellin my wares to them that I am somewhow below them when in many cases I make more than they do.

Although I will concede that not everyone in my profession lives up to the higest standards for their quality of work.

Salesmen being totally wrong happens all the time, and even if I know it, I either try to correct them or let it be. If you know more than the salesmen do, good for you. I'll probably laugh in my head, or come here and have a laugh about it afterwards, but I'd never laugh in someone's face. Doing that just makes you look 10 times dumber than the guy... If there were people around you, they surely weren't thinking &quot;look at that dumb salesmen who doesn't know the difference between a GF3 and a GF2&quot;, they're thinking &quot;look at that moron laughing at people&quot;.

BTW, do you even know why it's more expensive?

Hey man respect us retail workers. Not everyone knows everything about everything. Just because your hobby happens to be computers and you probably know more than him, you should laugh like a hyena in his face. I used to work at K-mart and I'd get some questions i didn't know the answer to...but i'd make up a lot of BS just because most K-mart customers are ugly fat people. (no offense to ugly fat people). If i respected my job i'd catch up on the info. on the other hand i did make a paltry 6.75..damn them! RETAIL SUCKS! NEVER GO INTO RETAIL! unless you make a lot of money and your job doesnt bite.

Its not that I'm offended, its that I'm more thoughtful than most people. People that work retail are treated as the scum of the earth, like you just demonstrated, and don't deserve to be treated as such.

Well if someone lies to my face so they can take home a little bigger paycheck at the end of the week, I am going to treat them like the scum of the earth. I know not all stores operate on a commission basis so that does not apply to all salespeople. But if you work in retail it doesn't matter what you get paid. Consumers come into a store expecting to get the best deal for thier hard earned money. Some do not have time to research every product under the sun, so they rely on a salesperson. How many people got ripped off by the guy cause he did not take it upon himself to become more familiar with his product, even though that is his job.

this isn't directed at you Nerd, but from some of the rant threads I've been reading lately, I think y'all need to get out from behind your comps and take a longer look at the real world...

1. Sales people do/will/should not know everything about every product they sell. Do you know everything about every aspect of your job? Did you always? If so, good for you, i'll PM you a cookie...

2. It's easy to pick on people from behind a screen... Would you call your boss a moron for using AOL, or laugh at an old man who didn't know a GF3 is the fastest card out? If so, that's pretty sad and/or stupid...

3. Clue: people couldn't care less how much computer knowledge you have unless you're going to build/troubleshoot theirs, so stop gloating about your &quot;technical superiority&quot;... If you're so knowledgeable you shouldn't need to ask sales reps anyway...

Sorry but that's just laziness... Consumers who are the least bit 'net savvy and still go to retail stores deserve to get &quot;ripped off&quot; because they're too lazy to do their own research when they know they can find it cheaper elsewhere... Guess what: sales people cost money... That is passed on to you in the form of higher prices... Either do your own research or deal with it...

Well if any of you folks would of happened to look back at Anandtechs own review of the Geforce3 you folks would notice that the benchmarks happen to show that in lower resolutions the Ultra is uhm.. well FASTER!... but then again who buys a Geforce 3 to play quake 3 and Serious Sam in 640X480.. heh... Also those were considered driver issues... ~strokes his Radeon~ but then again maybe it was just confused by all those big numbers?

I happen to bag grocceries and chase down carts in the parkinglot of a local Supermarket part time, and i will tell you right out if you ask me.. i have no clue in hell where anything in that store is!..... and for $5.85 an hour im really not compeled to stay late and learn...

I'd like you to know that I was that guy you laughed at. After you walked away, I went home and cried myself to sleep.

Only now do I know the difference between an Ultra and a GeForce3. Usually, I just make up an answer when the person looks as clueless as you did. I never thought I'd find out what you people really ask me all the stupid questions for. It's just a test I see now. I feel ashamed for my actions. Just guiding unwary consumers into buying the most expensive stuff just cause it is the most expensive. I'm going to go call all the customers who I sold Ultras to and give them a refund.

If CompUSA ever decides to pay me a living wage, I'll research the equipment first. But until then, they just pay me to wear a nametag and make up stuff as I go.
