Why laugh at him? I'm also just some poor kid but I'd laugh at him or at least sarcastically hint at the fact that he's a fool.

Holy crap, how did this get so serious? I think when he first posted this, he intended for a couple people to type LOL every so often so a few people could read it but then slowly it would die away.

Jeez man.

This thread is a joke and all the bashing is needless and needs to stop.

Moral of the story: CompUSA is most likely at fault for their employees making up answers for questions they don't know the answer to. But it's no excuse for the emplyees to say, "well they only pay me $6 an hour". Well nobody is forcing you to work there, quit and get an education and get a real job. And if you don't want to do that, make sure you know the material, all it takes is a few minutes a day of reading to know what is what. I mean they are selling people things that are expensive, and I don't think it's fair to the aol users to get screwed into buying crappy things for a bigger price <edit> because they don't do any research and know what they're really worth </edit>

<< CUSTOMER IS ALWAYS I REPEAT ALWAYS RIGHT. NO MATTER WHAT THE HELL YOU SAY, CUSTOMER IS ALWAYS RIGHT. JUST LIKE THERE IS NO SEX IN THE CHAMPAGINE (SP) ROOM. THE CUSTOMER IS ALWAYS, I REPEAT ALWAYS RIGHT. >>

Nerd, through various jobs I've held, I've learned that's just not true. We don't follow that rule. I've learned that the customer is often wrong, and is often lying his ass off or trying to pull some scam. Ever heard the phrase "a buyer's a liar?" The rule a savvy salesperson follows is to make the customer feel like he's right, even when the customer's not. It's like knowing how to tell someone to go to hell and make them enjoy the trip.

<< compUSA pays $6/hour? dam i would like to live in the USA. but wait, the prices there are higher too (not for hardware, but for other stuff). anyway i'm a patriot of my country, but $6/hour minimal wage sound good... >>

The US federal minimum wage is $5.15/hr. $6 per hour is a very low wage in the US. Come here and try to live independantly on $6 per hour and 40 hours per week. It can't be done. Come here with with ambition and the right attitude, and you eventually will do much, much better than $6 per hour, but everyone has to start somewhere.

BTW, I think most ChimpUSA drones make more like $7-9 per hour, but that's still a junky wage.

I knew someone who works in CompUSA and he makes so much money off commissions by making ignorant customers buy electronic extended warranty.

he doesn't make anyone do anything, some ppl just like warranties... my friend's dad bought a 5yr extended warranty on a Comcraq he bought years ago and just this month he returned the broken monitor/printer and got something newer for free... it's not ignorant to buy a warranty... it may be ignorant to buy a Compaq, but not a warranty...

Ok, I used to be a Assistant Manager of a CompUsa. And I dont blame you for laughing at the guy. Now CompUsa doesnt pay $6.00, it starts at 7 but most get paid 8 starting, and yes that is all over. But never the less. Most of the people that get hired at Compusa are not all the dumb, but not all of them know about everything in the store, that is what you have to realize. But yeh the guy should have gotten someone that actully knew what they are talking about. Instead of trying to make a sale. CompUsa sales are commishion now, it wasnt when I was thier. So yeh they are going to try to BS there way through everything just to make a sale. But what pisses me off were the poeple who expected our Top PC computer guy to know everyting about our Apple Section, or that everyone in the store even the Cashiers should know about DV Editing. And stupid stuff like that.

Edit: And about the Warentee's. Yes sales people somtimes do MAKE the customer purchase them. We would have done anything to sell a Warentee. The ONLY thing in that store that CompUsa actully made money on were the Cables, Media, and the Warrentee's. Some Laptops too, And Apple have a pretty good markup. But Most of the time on Computer systems they would only be marked up $30-$50.00. Where a Printer Cable that we sold for $30.00 would actully only cost us $3.00

Maybe to you this thread is a joke.. but to some people it is not a joke.. laughing at someone in front of their face just because they don't know something that is wrong. True CompUSA's employee should not make up answers for questions they don't know.. but if you follow the thread.. the employee did not say "well they only pay me $6 an hour." the buyer simply laughed at him.
Nerd basically walked into the store ask a question which he knew the answer already.. and laughed at the salesperson because he answered wrong.. why? if you know the answer already why would you ask the salesperson? to me, he is just trying to say "i know more than you" " i am better than you" and he laughed at an older person.. maybe it's the way i was brought up.. but... i have never laugh at an older person not to mention in front of his face.

What goes around, comes around. Just hope the same thing won't happen to you Nerd. At least the CompUSA employee has the manner of just smiling and leaving at it is. Besides, how can you said that he's not told that the Ultra is faster by someone else in Compusa and just passing along the information ? Its not correct, but doesn't necessarily mean he's making stuff up.
