Mods, roms, flashes, tweaks; what do you do?

on my LG G2:
- flashed the LG G Pro 2 rom with multi-app splitscreen for all apps, up to 5 navigation buttons, knock code lock and tripple tapping to zoom in

- set theme to LG G Flex for minimalist style default icons etc

- set DPI to 370 instead of 460 for smaller default content display sizes so more can fit on the screen and the high ppi screen gets utilized to its full potential (I'd go a little lower but LG's apps start crashing when I do)

- used G2 Xposed to shrink the navigation bar to 40% of the regular size; this compounds the shrinkage from the lower DPI setting

- installed the fullscreen+ app so I can make the nav bar and notification bar disappear altogether by tapping a persistent notification

- using G2 Xposed removed some default system icons from the notification bar such as the battery icon (percentage tells me enough) and centered and minimalized the style of the notification bar clock

- used the App Settings Xposed module to adjust the DPI for apps specifically such as the camera that doesn't work well on lowered DPI (I couldn't fix the LG app crashes this way unfortunately)

- installed xdabbeb's camera tweaks for lower shutter lag, a more responsive view finder and faster focus

= to do: make the notification bar transparent and maybe smaller

let me know yours; I bet there's a lot of cool tweaks out there I don't know about.

Mostly same stuff - good enough I don't feel the need to load custom ROMs anymore:

AT&T Note 3

- DPI set to 380 and App Settings module to set specific dpi for some apps (mostly Samsung stock apps)

- Xposed

- Wanam module to remove clutter from status bar (e.g. alarm, NFC icon, etc), notifications menu (persistent wifi message, headphone options when plugged in, etc), and a few other cosmetic tweaks

- custom boot animation

- Greenify, Adaway, Tibu

Straight stock ROM on my Nexus 5.

Running Nova with Minimalism icons. 1-Weather tabbed widget and Today Agenda widget.

Stock is just doing it for me lately. Not having to worry about the hassle of updating ROMs or worrying about making nandroids and Tibu backups or clearing my allowed devices on Google Music is really nice.

There's very little that I miss from custom ROMs, and I don't miss it nearly enough to start flashing again.

Android, and what apps can accomplish without root have come a very long way in the last two years.

HTC One:

Android Revolution HD ROM (ARHD - basically stock ROM that's optimized) + Sense 5 Toolbox for the little things (transparent statusbar/dock, statusbar icon colors, swipe to sleep, vol+ to wake, and dozen others).

That's all I need. Sometimes I installed custom kernel (Elemental X), but not currently.

I'm currently using a customized stock ROM that's mostly just pre-cleaned of bloat with a various number of tweaks baked in already. A custom kernel provides additional features (like double-tap to wake) while all the UI adjustments are using Xposed (the best Android tool ever) modules like Wanam.

A few more features are added back in using apps (like Auto Bluetooth Connect) and it's all gravy.

I'm also dual-booting to Cyanogenmod just because I can but I hop back to Touchwiz all the time because the camera features are only fully available there.

When I had my G2 it was rooted running Gravity Box for some nice tweaks.

Currently my Moto X is not rooted but it's mostly because I can't seem to find any current method of rooting it, everything I find is based on an older version of Android.

Hyperdrive 15 on my S4. Only real tweak I do to hyperdrive is to change the quick settings toggles to white text. also run wanam xposed for the always expand volume panel feature.

I've been trying to get Pie Controls to work using the LMT Launcher app, but it looks like I can't simply get some of my rom's special features to work through it. Multi-app splitscreen is normally set to long press Back, but mapping long press on the pie control to Long Press Back has no effect.

I'll have to look around if there's a workaround to these problems... Pie Controls look like a very screen real estate friendly thing if they can be made to work optimally. No matter how small I make the nav bar buttons, their visual presence never stops to annoy me.

I rooted my Note 3 to install a 5x5 launcher and fix the GPS. Unrooted back to stock for the 4.4.2 update. Hopefully a root solution comes up quick and I can get my 5x5 launcher back.

I guess I've always put Nova launcher on all my android devices by default - is there something special about a TW 5X5 launcher that you can't easily duplicate and more via a 3rd party launcher?

I don't much care for the 3rd party lunchers. I've tried them all, Nova ADW-Ex, Go, etc. Something just feels "off" about them, and I can't quite put my finger on it. Keep going back to stock.

Note 3 and Nexus 5 both stock. Got tired of playing with ROM's from previous phones so now I just turn them on and use them.

Both work just fine stock.

for my S4 I rooted and used a custom ROM and kernel. but i was stuck at 4.2. my first smartphone was the original nexus. since then i had a droid x, an htc rezound and an S4. with the rezound and S4 i rooted and used a custom ROM, plus a custom kernel. that's when i said screw this - i'm going back to naked android and that's it going forward.

with my nexus 5 i just rooted so i could use a few apps i like that need root like RCB, greenify, etc... i use xposed and gravity box. i have zero intention of messing with a custom ROM but may, and just a little may, think of trying a custom kernel. but probably not.

Well thanks to this thread I got the itch to tweak and now my Moto X is rooted running all sorts of xposed mods. Now that it's all setup I am happy.

I will say that Xposed has really opened up the tweaking game on phones. You used to have to flash a custom ROM to get any cool features, but now all you need is root. Without Xposed I would only customize my phone as far as sideloading and the Play Store allowed.

Almost nothing. I use Nova launcher on my Nexus 7 and GSIII, but I probably couldn't even tell you specifically why at this point. I think I've switched to the same icon theme on both devices as well.

I really don't like messing with tablets and phones. They just need to work. The Nexus 7 does and the GSIII does most of the time.
