That's an excellent price! I paid a lot more for similar (except a 19" mon and GeF2) half a year or so ago. I just hope shipping doesn't stink up the deal

Even w/ $50-ish tacked onto shipping, it's a good deal

better to just send the cpu, mb, ram and vga card.
if you don't have shock protection stuff for hd, it'd be damaged easily.
the case with ps is pretty heavy, that costs a lot in shipping.

or he could get these from newegg:
EN-72370X3 with 300Watts Power Supply $50.00
MSI K7T TURBO Retail Version $99.00
ATI Radeon 32MB DDR LE Version $78.00
AMD Athlon Thunderbird 850MHz Socket A PGA Processor-OEM Version $87.00
Kingston 128MB PC133 $37.00
Maxtor DiamondMax Plus 60 30GB 5T030H3 $112.00
Cooler Master EP5-6i11 $11.00

Subtotal: $474.00
Shipping and Handling Charge**: $ 66.28
Grand Total: $ 540.28
(I forgot for AK, cannot choose fedex saver, it'd be more)

don't waste money on shipping, you could sell that system to someone else locally and give your bro some money plus his $410 to buy above stuff from newegg.

You're selling it to him? What kind of brother are you? Why not just charge him shipping and give it to him. I give my lil bro parts all the time.

What kind of brother are you?

What are you talking about Mystikal? Hell yes I am selling it to him. I am not made of money and do not have a thirty computers laying around. He is not my little brother, he is my twin brother and has a job and is a big boy. I don't appreciate you insinuating that I am a bad brother.

He cannot buy stuff from newegg because they charge outrageous prices to have things shipped to Alaska. No, it is not just them, UPS and Fedex just charges a crap load to ship to Alaska.

Shipping is going to be around $45. I am paying that not him. I just figured that instead of buying from people that he doesn't know, I could help him out and give him a good deal on a computer.

it's a good deal - and if peopel are calling u a 'bad brother' for selling as opposed to giving it to him - they've no clue..

not everyone's rich.

Ok, then sell him for $300 (he's your bro man, give him some discount), $400 is not reasonable for these used stuff when you can get new and better one for similiar price.

kingofcomputer- would you mind showing me where a person can get better and for a more reasonable price? I just didn't pull this price out of my ass you know. This is how I broke the prices.

T-Bird 800- $85. Maybe a little bit high but it is a retail Chip and comes with the Heatsink and Fan
Asus A7V Mobo- $95, the cheapest I found online was $130 plus shipping.
Corsair RAM- $30, not too bad for a 128mb Chip from a quality Manufacturer
IBM 27.3 Gig Hard Drive- $100, I think this is a damn good deal considering the lowest price I have found on one of these is $145 for a used one. Yup, I know you can get a Maxtor 30 gig new for the same price, but for some damn reason he wants an IBM drive. So I am going to buy the Maxtor 30gig Drive for me and sell him the IBM for the same price.
Video Card- Bought this from a user here on anand, he charged $35, so I am charging my brother $35 since this was the card he wanted. I even paid for the shipping and what-not.
Enlight Case- $50, Not a terribly bad price, comes with two case fans and a sweet ass Sparkle 300 watt PSU.

So the total is- $395, he offered to pay $15 of the shipping and that is fine, I am going to be paying $25-$30 for the rest.

Now that I broke the prices down how does it look?

What is APO/FPO? If I use that option, shipping to Alaska comes to only $5.50 for the case; that's at Newegg.com.

Don't know what APO/FPO is (I think it is military something or another).

Shipping would be $51.98 for the case. Ouch.

Maybe a place that ships using USPS would have lower rates; I'll check around and see if I come up with anything.

Check out Axiontech.com - unless I entered something horribly incorrect, they charge $2 shipping?!?

Does he have computer stores near him? You would really save both of you a lot of money by keepning that case, and shipping the rest of the stuff to him. He can get any case locally and plug things in.

Yeah, there is a place locally, but they want $85 for the Enlight 7237 w/ 300 watt PSU, and that is the cheapest he was able to find. I believe him too. When I was up there last summer there wasn't even that. All the computer stores only had full-towers with 300 watt PSU's in them, and they wanted $50 to install a 300 watt psu into a Mid-Tower case.

The only Motherboard he has been able to find up there for the socket A was for $150, I thought selling him mine would be cheaper. Things are outrageously priced there, makes sense due to the high shipping rates from on-line stores.

Jeff- yeah it said $2 for UPS Ground, it is a screw up. They don't offer UPS Ground to Alaska, only 2-day Air or faster.

Word, yeh CPU/MoBo price are extremmly high up here, (I am the Brother) I mean $260.00 for a OEM p3 733? Cmon, and $140.00 for a Vh6? There was a little shop that had Decint prices but they are not around anymore. And if we ship throught the PostOffice it is not that expensive, only when you do FedEx and UPS because they only do 2-day, It is odd, they onlt do 2-day up here, but can do ground to the lower 48 from here, lol.

Geez; this sucks; I can ship stuff to Canada via USPS for just as cheap as shipping to the US. Wonder what the big deal is with shipping to Alaska? I just tend to stick with Priority Mail for just about anything.
Mwave.com charges under $35 for shipping; still UPS, but still, getting more reasonable.

USPS isn't that bad to Alaska Jeff. It is UPS and Fedex that sux, and that is what 90% of the online businesses use.

Nutdotnet, don't you see my previous post?

He can get a KT133A (newer mb), 30GB hd (bigger), Radeon LE (much better vga card), TB 850 (50mhz higher) from newegg for about the cost he need to pay you + you need to pay for shipping.

Why should he buy old stuff at the price of new?
He's even your bro, as I told you before, you should give him $100 discount.

I believe other people here will agree $300 is reasonable price.

I kinda agree with some who say lower price slightly..this is why...

I get about 50 bucks cheaper in the prices...and don't agree with some of the prices you say you found. maxtor is ata100 not ata66 like the ibm(not a fair comparison)

Some of the money is because things are used and probably dont cover any warranties...

so 360.00 shipped seems fair to me....

discount to brother could be offsetted by the fact it comes with os installed and pieces together ready to install FDD, CD-rom and Sound card...all easy installs..

My two cents...

kingofcomputers- I think you need to do a little bit more research.
I just priced out what you are talking about.

ASUS A7V133- $118.00
ATI Radeon LE Version - $78.00
AMD Athlon Thunderbird 850MHz OEM Version- $87.00
Kingston 128MB PC133- $37.00
Maxtor DiamondMax Plus 60 Ultra DMA 100 7200 RPM 30GB- Drive Only - (Like I said before, he wants an IBM Drive)
Cooler Master Fan- $10

Subtotal: $442.00
Shipping and Handling Charge**: $ 36.03
Grand Total: $ 478.03

Tack on the $85 for the Enlight Case that he can buy up in Alaska with 30 watt PSU (a the same Enlight Case from newegg is $100 after shipping)
Grand Total is- $563.03

Compare that to the $410 he is paying for mine- that is an increase of $153.03

Now I went with the products that would closely resemble mine. They did not have an IBM drive that was 30gigs, the Kingston RAM is CL3 and compares the the Corsiar RAM.

Hmm, I think that saving $153 is a pretty good deal.......

Oh yeah, it already has Win98se installed.

Duvie- actually most of the stuff still has warranties. I have had this computer since last September, The CPU is a retail CPU so it came with a three year warranty.... He is aware of the IBM being ATA 66, he doesn't care he wants it. If I were him I would get the Maxtor, and that is what I am doing.

MSI is as good as ASUS, to keep cost low and still high quality and performance, I pick MSI K7T Turbo which is even 133A.
You can change Radeon LE to cheaper TNT2M64 to lower the price.
Maxtor HD is as good as IBM, many people here'd pick Maxtor over IBM. If you must get ibm, newegg also has IBM for more.

For the price your bro need to pay you and you need to pay for shipping,
I'd say your bro is NOT getting a good deal.

The best solution is to just send the cpu, mb, ram, vga card, hd (wrap it well) thru usps insured, and buy the case locally even paying unreasonable price. It's not really unreasonable, the computer shop has to pay huge shipping to get the stuff to Alaska, and supply and demand, so end up such high retail price.)

I can only accept he pays $300 and you pay the shipping and keep the case.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"no no no,, king i would say 400 is nice price.. i am building my sister one,, and i think her budget is 1000 so i am going to give her my MX and get a better vid card say a PRO or Ultra.. and would you say that is ripping her off... na..... just BROTHERLY LOVE ! "

bjc112, your situation is different, you're helping her to build a new system, not selling her an old system at new price. I'd say you're ripping her off if you sell her the mx for the price of pro/ultra.

I don't see your logic there man.

If take off $50 for the case he will end up paying $85 for it. I will still be paying shipping.

"For the price your bro need to pay you and you need to pay for shipping,
I'd say your bro is NOT getting a good deal. "

That doesn't make much sense either. I am the one paying shipping, not him. You seem to understand that, but you use it to explain why my brother is not getting a good deal? He is only paying $15 for everything being shipped to him. That beats the $36 that newegg wants to charge, and that $15 also includes the case. It doesn't matter if I have to pay out my ass for the rest of shipping, because he doesn't have to deal with it, I do.

I know the maxtor hard drive is as good as the IBM, but he really wants an IBM drive. With people on the FS/FT forum selling 13gig IBM drives for $85 I think him paying an extra $15 for 15 more gigs is a pretty good deal.

I like how you edited your post. How the hell can you say that I am selling this computer at a new price? Haven't I shown you enough proof that I am not?
