I did some googling and got mixed results.

"The cheese is moldy" or "The cheese is mouldy"?

"Plastic injection molding" or "Plastic injection moulding"?

Is this a simple British vs. American spelling discrepancy?

Nope. The truth is you're an attempt at cloning me (since I'm the perfect specimen) that went horribly, horribly wrong.

Being English (although living in NYC), I'd like to say that yes, it is a simple English v. American discrepancy. We write mouldy

I used to work in a laboratory where we did analysis of molds and I have never seen it spelled mould. Then again I didn't play around with stuff very much.

Here is what I think...

Mold - Gross stuff on bread, cheese... etc.
Mould - A mould... like what they make stuff out of...

Both are correct, according to Merriam-Webster. However, since it states that "mould" is a variant of "mold", just stick with "mold".
