Interesting article about HP overcoming the hurdle of linking a molecular processor to what I imagine is a motherboard.
The problem is that a molecular processor's wires are so tiny.

What I am amazed at is the fact that these molecular processors will be able to hold from 1 billion to 1 trillion transistors in comparison to today where today's chips have up to 50 million.

This technology won't be available for another 5-10 years.

Here is the link to the article:

Moletronics (molecular electronics) is certainly being studied in academia as well. I found these link a year ago, from CS 820 @ MSU.

HP's nanotechnology research
some more stuff
Even more stuffMSUs Power Point presentation on moletronics

No, I don't understand it I haven't yet taken physics (next year, heh), so I'm a wee bit out of my leauge there...I just know of it because I was told that an MSU course linked to an article I wrote, and it happened to have boatloads of other information that I got my dirty little paws on .

Though I don't understand the stuff, I'm interested in hearing about it from anyone who can "dumb it down" for me.

LOL, it seems like everybody uses Patterson and Hennessy's Computer Architecture: A Quantitative Approach as their textbook . After I used it in my computer architecture class I took last semester, I've noticed it included in many bibliographies at Ace's, Ars, and Real World Tech.

That's exactly why I bought it for myself on my 18th birthday last year . Great reading (it's scary, I read it for _fun_). That's why I use it in my bibliographies now too -- those are the kind of sites that were the most helpful in my learnings, and I figure if I can do the same....

I can't wait for the 3rd edition. Anyone know when/if it's coming out? (I have Comp. Organization: The hardware/software interface, which is good too, though "easier," but because it's newer, more "relavent", so I lust after the third edition).

I can't wait for Game Boy Molecular-they just inject it right into your bloodstream, where it makes its way up to your brain.

"Instead of putting you in the game, we put the game in YOU!"

well, the future will be: quantum computers with molecular ICs with atomic data storage. powered by organic material (dna etc) that require food.

quantum computers are decades away from practical use. the bit width is just sooooooo, low.

molecular ICs are closer to a reality than PQC (practical quantum computers).

interconnects are a big problem. practical solutions do not exist, and impractical ones are too "unstable" even in labs.

gameboy molecular: the controls are wired to your brain, and the screen is attached to your retina

gameboy molecular 2: the controls are wired to your brain, and there is no screen.

gameboy molecular: multiplayer games are possible with an optional link. just stick your finger up your friend's butt.

Here is a really cool website which has an ever cooler URL. It contains all kinds of really technical stuff, especially in quantum mechanics. I was reading about the use of mirror quanta, which are separated from each other, and if you affect one, the other changes too. This "communication" potential is unaffected by light speed and apparently distance makes no difference. They are trying to make quantum switches for use in computing, as these can have more than just the on/off state, and can have multiple states. The ah heck is isolating quanta from outside influences.

is that an unusual URL or what! NO, it is not an x-rated site!!!

A book on this subject written in layman's terms is called "The Bit and The Pendulum" (I forgot the author) and is available at Borders Books and probably on line as well...
