Kinda worked. I got it for $24 + $13.82 S&H (he called the the techbazaar place to get that!) + tax. Total about $40 less the $20 MIR. Not as good as I was hoping, but not too bad.

Well I just tried to get this deal @ Staples in Ardmore, Ok. They were all willing to pricematch, but called techbazzar to confirm it was in stock. According to the cs here, they are required to add next day air shipping to the pricematch which is a whopping $59.95!!!! $24+$59.95 shipping = NO DEAL. According to the cs, this is the pricematch policy and even though I pointed out that it doesn't say this ANYWHERE in the price guarantee. He also commented that staples.com is a different company, and if I thought I could do better there to go for it.
When I supplied the googlegear page, he again called to confirm stock, and since the free 2nd day shipping was included, he was willing to split the next day air cost with me making my price about $50....

Actually Staples PM policy does clearly state that next day S&H will be added to all PMs. This has always been their policy. Some people do get lucky occasionally and find an ignorant CSR at a local B&M who does not know the PM policy, but the is not the norm. All Staples B&M PMs are more luck than anything else and as always YMMV.

Sorry for the lack of details for my post, here goes:

The guy PMed it (he wasnt a manager, I got VERY luck with this one) to the $24 on, making it $19 something

Added in tax, turned out to be $20.57, and now to get my $20 MIR...

The drive works (at least the one I got)...only ripping at like 2x though, but anything that works is good.

I think I'm gonna buy a "real" drive later on though, they are so cheap, no point not to

Update: After several phonecalls to Staples corporate office and the regional manager for my local store, the manager called me this evening and said they would pm the googlegear price (no shipping rape). I went to pick the dvd up, and someone had scribbled out the sku with an ink pen I assume in an attempt to kill any rebate. I rubbed most of it off, just need someone to verify the number before I send off for the rebate.

Got one yesterday for $6.40! Great deal, however after I got it install, I discovered it is only a single layer DVD drive and will not play dual layer DVDs. Still, can't complain for the price.

SUUUWEEET!!!! Just scored the last 5 of these bad boys at my local Staples. I picked up 2 of them yesterday. When the manager today hesitated on the PM I whipped out the receipt from yesterday and she PM'ed no problem. No shipping charges were tacked on either. So after the rebate I paid $1.15 tax INCLUDED!!! It really does pay to be nice and friendly with the cashiers and the managers at your local stores

Sweeeeeeeeeeeet. I just got back from the staples in Kenwood, OH with the ad I printed out from nexthardwareshop.com. Nexthardwareshop.com had it for $25 on sale so the manager pricemached it to 100% and I walked paying $26.50 ad in the $20 rebate and thats $6.50 clear, nice. By the way that was the last on the shelf. I just installed it in XP Pro and it was found immediatly no problem. This place rules.

Overview about this drive. Overall, it is not bad at all.

According to the article, it is based on Sony technology. The bundle software maybe WinDVD or PowerDVD. The one I got is PowerDVD 3.1. Now I can watch DVD movie on my Win2k and Win XP computers. For a DVD drive for less than $1, I am very happy with it.

Tomorrow is the last day for the deal if I am not wrong.
