wish tax season wasn't around the corner...and I could convince my wife that we "needed" it

corrected Linky to Technical Specs

Do you have it hooked up to your computer? CAN U hook it up to your puter?
How Is the Plasma screen different than the LCDs that we're seeing on the market now? Y R they becoming so much cheaper than they were about 2-3 years ago...when they first began showin' up on the market?

GD it...why does Costco have the worst hours? Maybe its different elsewhere, but in Harrisburg PA the hours are:
M-F 10:00am - 8:30pm
Sat 9:30am - 6:00pm
Sun 10:00am - 6:00pm

Closing at 6 pm on the weekend, particularly on Saturday? Are they insane? Well, needless to say I'll have to stop by TOMORROW to check out this deal

I know 16:9 is good for DVD movie, but how is it for regular TV? Will the picture be distorted to fill the screen?

Uh, what does "extended definition" mean? That sounds like it means "not really high definition but better than normal crappy TV."

SDTV: Standard Definition Television. It been around since the 1950's. SDTV boasts a viewable 480 lines Interlaced. (525 total)

EDTV: Enhanced Definition television. Introduced in approximately 1998 to the consumer market. This unit displays near HDTV resolution and up-scales SDTV signals to display them in at least 480 lines progressive. Sony Models with DRC display at 960 lines Interlaced but newer models do support the 1080 Interlaced standard if connected to set top HDTV tuner.

HDTV: Complies with a wide set of standards that tops out at 1080 Interlaced lines of resolution. True HDTV's should have an HDTV tuner built in. Almost all models available in 2001 offer an external tuner option which (in most cases) has not even be developed yet by this manufacturer.

Thanks Pennstate

I was wondering what EDTV was too but at 800 it's halfprice and I didnt care it looked awesome.
Can a normal DVD player work with 480 lines progessive or do I need a special high end one?

BTW guys we just watched Mummy Returns and Tome Raider and the base for the dual subs was very good for the price. Now I'm running off an external sub and speakers which I had already had...

Better get there by 10Sun or the AT effect may take affect.

For DVD, they will look about the same. The samsung may even give you a bigger picture. I don't think the SOny is displaying progressive signals. if you watch a lot of tv, get the SOny. If a lot of DVD, the samsung.

I believe that this feature was orginally called "IDTV" or Improved Definition TV. I remember that Toshiba
came out with a 32"? IDTV approx 10 yrs ago. Sony also had a 27" IDTV that couldn't be found anywhere
about that time.

Since then there have been other sets with this feature. Sony nows calls it DRC...
These line doublers have been improved since they first came out. But, they still very in quality.
