Does monarch computers have price matching with the official amd prices for their processors? Their athlon 64 3200+ is overpriced.

They probably buy them for more money than wherever else you're looking. Therefore they need to sell them that much to make a good enough profit.

Apparently enough people are buying them at that price in order for them to justify the way they are pricing them. Supply and demand.

It's 13 dollars higher than the official amd prices on amd.com's price chart. But their 3500+ is cheaper than the amd price so are they forcing people to get the expensive one?

AMD's price chart doesn't account for different distributors. That is only what they think it should be priced. Obviously Monarch is making more of a profit at what it is priced at, than if they sold it for lower.

About "sometimes the lowest price isn't the best deal," there is more than just price that you have to account for. I would rather buy a product, even if it's $10 more, from a well know, good company than some sleazy one that could be more laid back and not help you if things go wrong.

Also, Monarch is really about supply and demand, and their prices fluctuate a lot. Back in November last year, 3500+ Winchester prices were around 300 dollars apiece, but for a week they dropped down to 250, which is when I bought mine. A week later, they went up to like 350 bucks (when SLI was released, 3500+s became a popular CPU to match with two 6800GTs). I guess I just got lucky

that doesn't make sense.

if you think about it it makes a lot of sense. there are many companies that are not service oriented and loss lead with popular products. yeah, you might save 10-20 bucks but they wont ship it on time or they wont package it properly and god forbid you get a dud. i dont mind paying more to newegg, monarch or zzf. I know I'm getting my stuff on time and if it goes bad I'll have it replaced in a timely manner.

Is monarchcomputers a good store? It says that it's supposed to test my combo. Will they really do that? Will it open the processor's box and throw it away? I need the serial number and mabe other contents of the box for amd's RMA. And will they send me a refurbished part because they will open the box to test the setup?

Monarch is a good store. It's where I'm getting my new computer (specs below). Yes as far as I know they do test all combos, barebones, and systems. I think they send you all boxes, but I'm not positive. It may depend on what you're getting (system, combo, etc). What do you mean by a refurbished part because they open the box to test it?? They use new parts unless you order a specific refurbished part...

edit: And DSJ, are you new to all things computer? Just curious

If they are going to open the box anyways then they could take an used refurbushied cpu and it's opened box and claim that it's a new cpu. And doe they guarantee the cpu core temps? If it's 60 degrees on the desktop will they still pass it?

Lol Krnxpride83, I just did the same thing. I bought my GPU/CPU/Mobo at monarch this week lol. Those were the best prices I could find, and 8 dollar shipping didn't hurt either.

Monarch isn't a sleezy company. I would highly doubt they use a refurbished part. I doubt they would pass a CPU if it were that hot. They woudl probably send it back to whoever they bought it from (does Monarch get their CPUs directly from AMD, or just from another distributor [ala Tank Guys]?)

They do give a free half life 2 with the 2 piece combo. I don't have that yet.

The combo works. I ordered it from them, because I couldnt' pass up a free HL2, farcry, and napster. I wanted to build it myself, but over $100 worth of software can't be turned down.

Test the combos my ass. They sent me a 3000+ Venice and a DFI NF4 combo that wouldn't even work because the 1/10/05 BIOS that the board was equipped with could not properly run a Venice. It took me a day to figure out that it was the BIOS, and after I flashed it to one of the April beta BIOS's, it worked.

Don't mean to sound harsh there, but my only experience with them was very negative, even though I know they are generally a great store. Even still, you can easily find cheaper at a different, equally reputable store, so I don't get where saving $10 over one store from the other automatically means bad service accompanied with it?
