Wow you gotta be the cheapest dude I've ever seen on CPU's. $70 too much? Thats one dinner date, at a cheap place, no drinks. They cost about $50 to make so you're not going to see $40 unless AMD is going out of business, firesale. I'd just sping for it at this point the 3000 won't go lower.

The only way he is going to see that price is in the FS/FT area. I am not expecting to get more than $50.00 out of my 3000+ when I sell it

Don't sell it unless you need to. I regret selling my 3000 which clocked to 2800Mhz (FX-57 speed) and replacing it with 146 Opteron when that craze was going on - Cost me $100 in the exchange for no return. Actually the 3000 was better because it ran cooler.

... it's mainly the free copy of AoE3 that got me to go that way, lol!!
Where is the AoE3 mention? Has it been removed?

Yes, it appears to have been removed, they were offering free AoE3 with everything above a 3800+ earlier today.

Thanks OP in for a 4600+ for $260

Was going to wait till they dropped to $220.

But a 40 dollar difference isnt that much especially since I spend 20 bucks a pop for gas every week.

Its a hot deal in my opinion especially for Cali residents since Monarch has no sales tax and shipping is only 2 bucks.

Now I have to find a use for my AMD64 3000+ or sell it for around $50.

oo bad my office computer is LGA 775 based.

Check out My Computer in my Sig.

I can't decide if I should upgrade to an X2 (3800+ overclocked as high as I can go). I'd like to be able to multitask better. I like to watch my TV Tuner in full deinterlace mode (DScaler), and rar/backup files while working the web. Will and X2 be a nice noticeable improvement for me in speed and system snappiness?

Also, what do you have to do to upgrade an existing install to a dual core cpu?

You should just be able to swap processors and be good to go. Your current motherboard will work just fine with X2 processors.

I want an X2, just have decide between 3800 and 4200.

Did anyone get their processors from Monarch (or other online stores after the price cut) yet?
How do they overclock? Are those brand new batches/revisions?

Hey guys,
I posted this in the general forum, and it seems pretty god, so I thought I'd put it here to, maybe give someone some ideas or something. Just FYI, I am losing the graphics card, and getting the cheaper ASRock mobo. I am trying to quit playing games so thats why I cut the Gfx card, and I have heard great stuff about ASRock boards (not to mention they're cheap!), so thats why I did that. Also, I am getting some cheaper RAM. Everything seems to have a lifetime warranty, and I don't really need HIGH performance, so I'll go 2Gb of generic for about $30-40 less.

$157.00 AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+ (Socket AM2)
$76.99 MSI K9N Neo-F
$12.89 Shipping
$246.88 Subtotal (Monarch)

$198.00 CORSAIR XMS2 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Unbuffered Dual Channel Kit System Memory Model TWIN2X2048-6400 - Retail
$160.00 eVGA 256-P2-N554-AX Geforce 7600GT 256MB GDDR3 PCI Express x16 Video Card - Retail
$51.50 FSP Group (Fortron Source) AX450-PN, 12cm FAN, version 2.0, 2 SATA, PCI Express, 450W Power Supply - Retail
$14.00 Shipping
$423.50 Subtotal (Newegg)

$680.38 SUBTOTAL BEFORE REBATES

-$30.00 eVGA video card
-$40.00 Corsair RAM
-$70.00 Subtotal

$610.38 TOTAL
Now just add a case, an HD, and some optical drives, which you probably already have, and you're good to go!

As far as ASRock, I've never had any experience with them, but like I said, the boards seem to get good reviews, and show decent performance. I was gonna go dirt cheap on the RAM, but I think I will get Corsair value select for $150. The item name of it is below:
CORSAIR ValueSelect 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 533 (PC2 4200) Unbuffered Dual Channel Kit System Memory Model VS2GBKIT533D2 - Retail
I don't know though, its not much more for performance RAM, so maybe I'll save $40 and downgrade to the PQI...

I ordered a 4200+ X2 939 w/ A8N-SLI Premium board last night around 5:59 PM Pacific Time.
I got a "processing" email @ 8:37 PM
Under my notes, I have:
"07/24:Your order has been verified, we are processing it at this time. Thank you for shopping with us. "

So it took about 3+ hours to get it approved.
I used a regular debit card and had them shipped to my bill address.

FYI: It still doesn't show as shipped, and I ordered about 18 hours ago.

Good to know. I guess only the low end dual core Opterons get those, not the X2s. It will be a pain to remove and reinstall the XP-90 in my K8N Neo2.

I am debating on buying a X2 proc. It would come in handy with video encoding. I could set it to encode using one core, and play games with the other. But I currently have an Opeteron 146 2.0GHz overclocked to 2.8GHz.

I doubt any X2 core will overclock that high! Most people on Newegg only report a 200 to 400MHz overclock. That sucks!

The Manchester 4200+ is $83 more than the Windsor 4200+. Anybody know why? Are they pretty much equally fast? When I click "buy" at Mwave the price goes from $186.66 to $251.76 or $334.71. What's up with that?!

EDIT: OK, figured out the pricing problem. Still would love to know the CPU differences. I lost track since my last Athlon 64 purchase.

Just got off the phone with mwave, some info for anyone waiting for their chip to ship. Despite them saying that it was "in-stock" yesterday, they actually weren't (this is for the 4600+, don't know if they're all like this). Lady said they got them in today, couldn't tell me if they would be turning them around today, or if they wouldn't be shipping until tomorrow.

For those watching, Newegg's prices are jumping pretty good. The X2 4200+ has gone up 20 in the last few hours.
