939 cpus
AM2 cpus

Intel has done a great thing for us all, no matter which camp your in. God, bless America

Edit part
If you go to Zip and see a 4000 X2 and it says its a 65w, I called and confirmed it is not. It is a 89w model, not an EE version. I canceled my order, but it is still a good price at $184.

That's what I figured would happen since they said they were going to stop manufacturing S939...

Will there be 1-way Socket AM2 opterons at any point like we had for 939? I'm coming up empty handed on finding that out.

Wow, some crazy prices on the X2s. Too bad I picked up an opty 146 for 115 a while ago. I got a good stepping at least :]

I'm torn now with the price drops... Got a Foxconn 590 SLI Board at release (and oddly it was cheaper then, as compared to now...) and a Athlon 64 3000+. Was planning on getting dual core when the price dropped, but my 3000+ clocked to 9x300 (2.7ghz) so I don't know if it's worth upgrading yet.

Definitely a hot price...

How long until computer builders such as HP, Dell and Gateway drop the prices of new PCs with AMD AM2 cpus inside?

Kinda' reminds me of the AGP vs. PCIe debate.

The performance difference is slight despite touted potential, but those left with the older standard are going to feel the preassure to upgrade their entire system. As opposed to the one device holding them back.

ZZF has price drops on Intel 940 and 950 as well. The 950 dropped down to 228.50 shipped.

As a custom builder, I am dropping system prices at the very moment, on X2 and Pentium D 900 config's. But I deal on Ebay.

i thinking of going with a 939 X2, but I'm not sure which models come with the heatpipe heatsinks. Isn't it anything higher than a X2 3800+?

2.6 to 2.8, they all go about that, some more some less depending on voltages and mobo.

Yeah,

The X2 3800 uses the aluminum HSF that ships with all the regular A64's.

It looks like S939 X2 3800's are going for $162 and X2 4200's are going for $189. Definetely worth the extra 27 bucks to me to go with the 4200 so you get the better copper heat pipe HSF and extra Multiplier (11x vs 10x).

I have a Abit Via chipset S939 mobo so getting the 11x multi of the 4200 quarantees me that my mobo won't stop me from pushing the cpu to its full 2.8Gh OC potential, and alot of other X2 owners have reached 2.6-2.8Ghz on air with the copper HSF that amd supplies.
