Depends on what the E6300 sells for, and it should be very close. The E6300, if the same price, will definitely be the better cpu.

Yeah,

The X2 3800 uses the aluminum HSF that ships with all the regular A64's.

It looks like S939 X2 3800's are going for $162 and X2 4200's are going for $189. Definetely worth the extra 27 bucks to me to go with the 4200 so you get the better copper heat pipe HSF and extra Multiplier (11x vs 10x).

I have a Abit Via chipset S939 mobo so getting the 11x multi of the 4200 quarantees me that my mobo won't stop me from pushing the cpu to its full 2.8Gh OC potential, and alot of other X2 owners have reached 2.6-2.8Ghz on air with the copper HSF that amd supplies.

I got my X2 4200 in March. It came with the aluminum heatsink like the X2 3800 has, not the nicer heat pipe. I called AMD, they said the 4200 gets the same HSF as the 3800. So, I put a Arctic Cooling HSF on it.

Yep, just about everyone is dropping prices. Check out outpost.com as they also dropped to $160 shipped (same as Monarchcomputer):
http://shop3.outpost.com/product/4858900

I would say the 3800+ is the sweet chip to go with on a budget.
I wonder how good it OCs, but from what I heard it is a decent OC.

There are 965P boards out now for ~150. There will also be 946P boards out soon that should be ~$100.

Also, C2D does not need DDR2-800 memory to achieve it's max stock performance.

No.
Roughly 5% performance improvement in games is not worth the extra. My 3200+ has 1MB cache (S754) and I'd rather have 200MHz more on the core now than the extra cache.

to hell with Monarch. save time, money and hassle and dont buy from these people. i am STILL waiting on a refund on a PSU that:

1: took forever to ship
2. PSU was the wrong item. they sent me some ancient PSU that wasn't the even the same brand i ordered.
3. CPU ordered 2 days before PSU was ordered took nearly 2 weeks to ship.
4. i am STILL waiting 5 WEEKS after they received the RMA'ed PSU for a refund on my credit card.

no friggen way would i ever order from them again. good luck to those that do. you've been warned.

Dang. I wish I had money. My laptop (A64 3200) and desktop (P3 866) feel so outdated

You're probably going to need to call to get anything done about your refund. No exaggeration here...it took nearly 6 months for Monarch to put credit back on my Amex. It had been so long that when I saw the credit, I first assumed it was a mistake and that they had credited my account twice.

Dang could have gotten AOE game I probably would have never played.

Shipping was 11 bucks at mwave for me anyways and canceling from monarch would have been a bitch?

Sorry, I thought there was something about August in there. Gotta love quoting from memory

Glad you got the date though.

Back on topic, I snagged a 4200+ and the Abit KN8 SLI board for $285 shipped from mwave. That is still less than the 3800+ x2 cost there yesterday

Intel Core 2 Extreme processor based systems and boxed product are expected to be available on the day of launch, 27 July. Intel Core 2 Duo processor based systems and boxed product [through places such as Newegg] are expected to be available from 7 August. Each OEM has their own product introduction / transition cycles based upon their target market segment and current product offerings. We expect some to offer product in August with more introductions extending through September. Check with the OEMs of your choice to get their specific message on system availability.

I guess I remembered better than I thought...

Damn I just want the CHEAPEST s939 I can find, so far it's the 3000+ for $70 at Mwave but I'm still holding out for closer to $40.

Just got the 939 X2 4200+ from Mwave. $200 shipped Fedex 2 day, including a copy of Age of Empires 3 which is by itself worth about $25-$30.

The 4200+ is going to easily do 2.65 ghz, all you do is throw in the 333mhz memory divider, and up the FSB to 240, and lower the HDT ratio to 3x. Now, how much voltage this will take is the question. My best guess is no more than an extra .05V, which should be well within reason.

The higher multi and nice heat sink make the 4200+ a no-brainer upgrade for ~$25 over the 3800+ x2.

Similar experience, its been over a month since I have been waiting for a refund from an order I canceled that never even shipped! Their service is beyond ridiculous, I don't care what deal they have, I am NEVER buying from them again.
