Monarch vs. ZipZoomFly

On Monday I ordered parts for some hardware musical chairs I'm going to play to upgrade my main gaming rig. Like many of us I read Reseller Ratings and posts here. I've always bought from NewEgg, but to get what I wanted and the best prices I wound up ordering this time from Monarch and ZZF. Here's my experience.

From Monarch I ordered a MSI k8N neo2 plat. and a retail 3200+ 90nm 64. I used their bundle thing which also netted me a bronze copy of HL2 via Steam, 4 months of Napster and the preassembly testing. (that last part didn't matter, but what the heck if they want to slap the hsf on and mount the proc more power to em)

Monarch's automated email system did an excellent job updating me on the status of my order. And I can see why - their turn time was outstanding. The order actually got out on the same day, with two day shipping it is right here on my desk! Their packing also desrves praise as it was very well done and arrived here in perfect shape. If there are any issues with the build it won't be from shipping problems.

From this I would recommend Monarch without hesitation and will no doubt order from them myself in the future.

Then there's Zip Zoom Fly, or is that Lag Stall Crawl?

Yes, those stories about them being slow are too true. From them I ordered a 200gb Seagate SATA drive. When I hadn't received any update whatsoever and the order still showed as processing late TUESDAY night I sent an unhappy email. This morning I received a reply that my order would process and ship today (like what, I'm supposed to thank them for that?) and noting that their policy states that processing may take up to 2 days. Well, policy or not if you can't turn your orders in a competitive time perhaps you're in the wrong business. Everyone has a similar policy. As evidenced by the competition they use it when problems arise. ZZF apparently uses it to just cover being slow.

Bottom line, I wouldn't recommend ZZF nor will I ever purchase from them again. With Monarch and NewEgg out there why fuss with slowpokes? Now I have to wait to do my build because I saved $15 - whoopie. Not one of my better decisions. I won't make that mistake again.

I agree ZZF does take longer to process and get out the door versus Newegg and MOnarch...

However since they did it in the stated 2 days I cant see much complaint...When I order from them and sometimes save a bunch of money over (overpriced of late) newegg I am well aware and not in that much of a hurry...be patient...

I bought components from gameve and XcaliburPC.com of recent and they were as fast as anyone I have seen of late and they pack and ship well...No packages left on the door like newegg...sign or no goodies....

Agreed Duvie. I'm not saying they were "wrong" so to speak, only that by comparison that they are not competitive and in my case the small savings was not worth the lost time. The mistake was mine.

Yeah, but shipping is free from ZipZoomFly,

and

Newegg's prices are not so great any more, and they charge for shipping, sometimes a lot.

Now that you know better, take into consideration how much money you'll save vs. the extra amount of time that you'll have to wait for it to arrive.

In my case, it was worth it. I saved a bunch of money over Newegg (they definitely do seem to have upped their prices a bit lately), and recognized the fact that I would have to wait for a while.

OT, belongs in the "Brags & Moans" thread in the Hot Deals section.
. I have had orders from just about everyone where they took their full "policy time" to get it out the door and I've had a few others where my order got here early. Now if you paid for special handling and/or was promised same, fine. Otherwise let me get out my tiny violins...

.bh.

Here, cry in your  .

Newegg's price aren't so great anymore? You're just spoiled. I remember back when getting the best deal every order took a few hours on pricewatch.

I usually don't have to worry too much, for most things monarch, zzf, and newegg are nearyby when you search froogle.

I purchased stuff from Monarch. They're just as good (if not better) as Newegg. Haven't tried ZZF though. I can, however, tell you that I will definitely be looking both at NE and Monarch for my next purchase. (which will probably be ram. i wish i could justify buying it sooner)

Just pray you don't have to do an RMA with ZipZoomFly.
I RMAed a motherboard back, and it took them 2 weeks after they recieved it to ship back the replacement. Not to mention it missed several ship dates that they gave me.

I prefer to stick with Newegg, Mwave, Dell (for monitors), or Monarch if I can.

Other than that RMA, I've never had any problems with ZipZoomFly though.

up until recently i bought all of my hardware from newegg, but it seems that they are no longer are as competitive and almost always charge high shipping costs. although zzf may take slightly longer to ship, their prices are lower and they have free 2 day shipping. personally i plan to go back to them until they give me a good reason not to.

Monarch is definitely on my favorites list. Never dealt with ZZF, but I had the same experience with SVC. It took them almost TWO WEEKS to ship my order. What happened is that their website showed something in stock, i pay for it with 3-5 day shipping and it turns out that they didn't have it in stock. So they call the manufacturer and have it shipped to my address (never once did I receive an email update after the one that let me know they charged me already). When they had the manufacturer ship it, they shipped it with 8 day shipping which means that I had to wait an additional 8 days after I complained 3 days later. In that period of time I made two orders from New Egg and got them faster than the one order from SVC.

So, I feel your pain. One thing we have in common though is that Monarch is awesome. I ordered my 6800GT from them for a great price too.

Well that's pretty important. I never had any problems with Monarch 'til I tried to get an RMA. I won't order from them again.

I've ordered countless times from NE and only once from ZZF. I did notice a slower shipping from ZZF on that one order. Satisfied with NE. What about Mwave?

Monarch has pretty fast shipping. I ordered my video card on a Sunday and got free shipping (5-7 day). I received it on the following Wednesday, the same day that I received all the parts that I had ordered from newegg (and I had to pay for 2-3 day shipping).

Don't shy away from ZZF soley because of this thread. Yes it may take an extra day to ship out, but just plan on that and it won't be a big deal. Then if it ships out quicker, you'll will be even happier with your purchase.

When I built a new machine I ordered from NewEgg and ZZF.
ZZF had 2 day free shipping and it came in 2 days. Newegg was slower sending the parts out and the delivery day was scheduled to be the following Monday but it all arrived on Friday. This was my first experience with ZZF and at least my 30th from NewEgg. I was very happy with the prices and service from ZZF.

Its all hit or miss on stories like this...depends on the item the date and time the orders were placed, etc.....

Facts are Newegg is not the cheapest anymore on items and shipping for a lot of things....Facts are newegg with fed-ex saver will leave your expensive stuff on the door step for all to steal!!!

If only the world were perfect...

Overall, NE, ZZF & Monarch are way ahead of the rest of the online retailers, although I'm increasingly hearing complaints about NE. This in my book doesnt necessarily constitute a reason to boycott a dealer. Sh*t happens...

It's always ymmv. I just posted this here because I've read many such stories here and figured every account helps build the bigger picture.

Maybe it would be better if I said it this way: Monarch did awesome with my order - turned it really fast, packed expertly, very happy.

ZZF disappointed me by actually using all the "processing" time they allow themselves in their terms.

No big deal, I'd seen others have similar experiences so just relating mine too. Just one isolated incident, but nevertheless one I felt worth sharing with you guys.

Only if you have a signed release from Fed Ex. No signature release on file means that Fed Ex won't leave it without a signature.
Now Monarch requires a signature even with a signed release. For me, this pushes me to go with Newegg. I can't be home when they come by my house and the Fed Ex pickup is about 40 minutes away. So it takes me about an 1.5 hrs to go get the package. I'm not worried about anyone taking it off my porch, so leaving it is what I prefer and expect.

I'm gald you shared your experience. The more we know about a vendor, the better off we are.
