i want to order my system on monarch and the only thermal greese they offer is shin etsu. is it ok to leave it on, or should i re apply as5?

another question. if i order mobo/cpu/memory in a pretest order, do i still receive all of the retail boxes and manuals? when they ship it, is it all assembled? lastly, do they do prime95 and memtest, or do they jsut check to make sure that everything turns on and posts?

Shin Etsu is just as good as A65, but Just don't even bother ordering grease. BUy As5 and apply it yourself. You only get 1 aplication of shin etsu anyways.

yea but it's either that, or they use the pad that comes with the retail a64 and i hear that it's impossible to get it 100% off...the order i made still came out cheaper than newegg with shipping included.

$14 for the paste is a scm considering they don't give you the rest of the tube. You pay $14 for a one time application. AS5 is only $5 for the entire tube.

I know that if you buy a MB/CPU combo, it will come in the MB box but you don't get the box. No idea about the RAM.
As for the combo testing, they update to the latest BIOS and makes sure it posts and that's it.

If you are thinking about buying a custom system from them rather than just a combo, I would highly advise against that.

You do NOT need to sue anything other than the pad!!!

You will NOT see a remarkable decrease in temps due to using AS5 or the Shin Thermal Grease...USE the Pad!!

^^ I agree.

I have used the thermal pads, as5, and the grease that comes with Zalman coolers. Haven't seen a big diff. in any of them. What does make a difference, with the tube stuff anyway, is how much of it you put on.

Too much is a very bad thing, you'll end up ripping the CPU out the socket when you remove the HSF! Trust me I've done it many times.

Haha, I did that the first time I removed a heatsink. Just about crapped my pants when I saw the socket in which my 4400+ X2 had formerly rested. Bent a pin too, which I was able to very carefully straighten.

In actuality it makes little if any difference temperature wise....its of no consequence....negligible at best!!

BTW, a response to something the OP said earlier ~

After any application of a thermal pad, thermal grease (whatever you apply, any brand) it is impossible to remove 100% of the pad/grease. You can do you best with a coffee filter and some alchohol 90% or higher, but there will always be some left in the miniscule cracks that are on the metal top of the CPU.

You can get 90% alcohol (and up, 99% is best) at most pharmacies, but they usually have it behind hte pharmacy counter. You need to ask for it to get it, it's usually not on the shelf.

u can get 99% alcohol at most supermarkets....where they keep the cold medicines...
Thats where i got mine!
Also its a little cheaper than buying it in a drug store!!
