Yeah I say that's BS. Happiness for me would be being able to do that daily, or whatever the fuck else I wanted, without thinking about how much it costs for the rest of my life.

ha ha ha. What a load of crap. I want desperately to go back to community college to get a skill that can pull me out of poverty but I can't. I'm trapped in a body that does not feel like my own, but the surgeries that could help are out of reach. No car or reliable form of transportation basically limits me to miserable, minimum wage, high turnover work within walking distance. I want desperately to leave this shit hole but I couldn't cobble together the funds for two months rent + security deposit to go elsewhere, much less finance a move. Or even get there without reliable transportation.

Whoever the hell said money can't buy happiness did so to stop the poor from rioting.

Ahh cry more. You sound worse than me on heroin. What are you out in the country? Even my rust belt city has buses and even as a broke cry baby loser I rode that shit all over town with me rusty old second hand bike. Took 2 hours to get to my $10/hr job across town. Get over yourself and get to work.

We also saw couple giant sea turtles laying eggs on the beach at night. Apparently giant sea turtles come out the water and dig large holes in the sand and lay like 100-150 eggs before heading back into the ocean. And for some reason, they like to lay the eggs on the beach right front of the Ritz Carlton. The hotel has turtle conservation program and workers with lasers mark where the eggs are laid and then they dig it up and move the eggs to a safe place where it can hatch. Then they bring the baby turtles and let the hotel guest release the turtles back into the water. We were dining on the beach one evening when we saw these giant sea turtles getting out of the water and laying the eggs right on the beach. It was awesome to sight to see.

glad you're having fun. trying to get a million things done so maybe i can get some downtime for our hawaii trip in a few days. we get a lot of turtles in Florida on the gulf coast. always a cool sight. I volunteered for turtle patrol as a teenager... lot of walking the beach morning and night looking for nests, hatching, etc. Still remember having to bury a huge turtle that i think was killed by a shark. that was an endeavor.

"Money doesn't buy happiness" is just a phrase that poor people made up to make them feel better about themself.

I don't think I like your attitude!

I'm trying to relax now because once I get back, I'm going to be swamped with existing and new projects. But that's good because that means more money. But I know the feeling of running your own business and trying to get things done before leaving for vacation. It usually takes me good 2-3 days in the beginning of the vacation to forget about work and to really relax.

They have the USDA in Mexico now?
That's pretty much all they have in Cancun. Lot of places here claim they serve USDA Prime and Black Angus steaks. But I question the quality. It seems every other restaurant is overpriced steakhouse with very few standouts.

Not me. I was still happy back then, but now I have a lot of what I always wanted back then and I can go on more of the vacations i used to only be able to go on once or twice a year.

The more proper way to say it is "money cannot directly buy happiness". What money does buy you, though, can cause you to worry less (so you can find happiness) or provide happiness, even if only temporary.

That said, there are other ways to find happiness, money is just one the obvious means to try and do so.

unfortunately vacation is usually more stress/work for me. we took a cruise in May and I had a federal judge order me to respond to two motions while at sea... not really caring I was on the water or whether internet even worked out there. 100% I will be working at least a few days while in Hawaii. Such is life. Being a business owner is what allows me to do these trips so can't really complain.

There was a Rutgers study on money and happiness. What they found was there is a sweet spot to money/happiness. I believe it was about $75k. Anything after that and it's diminishing returns. Anything below and the person has that scarity mindset.

That "money can't buy happiness" saying is partially true. Yes, if you rely on buying sh*t for happiness you're going to be in trouble. Happiness is intristic. Extrinsic things like cars, homes, nice clothes are cool. But, none of that stuff will give you the happiness long term. Look at music stars as examples.

You could find happiness thru money by helping out family members, strangers, donating, etc. I'd love to be able to buy my dad a house. That would make me extremely happy.

Carnegie the railroad tycoon had a goal, and that was to make as much money as he could during the first part of his life. The second part of his life was to give it all away. And he did. I'm sure that made him extremely happy.

That's as dumb as "there's no I in team" since there's an M E.

Buying things with money is what makes me happy - having the money sitting in an account somewhere, though wise, absolutely doesn't.

Old retired people will say that they look back and wish they hadn't spent so much on material things. But I bet they were happy the moment when they purchased and enjoyed them. Hindsight is a bitch.

How can they put a figure on it when cost of living is different for everyone? The median household income in my county is $97k, which is low when considering expenditures (crazy taxes and home costs). You need $125k-$150k household for a decent daily living here, $200k to be comfortable as a family of 4. We wouldn't even afford a house if we only made $75k ($500k buys you a 1300sq ranch at $10k taxes and there's fierce competition for that price range). I'm sure it's true for a lot of you, at least that $75k means different things to different people.

I'd highly recommend Playa Del Carmen next time. The new Grand Hyatt there is right in town on the water and tremendous. Restaurants in town are far better and the mix is good local food and international since it draws a more non-US crowd.

The phrase, "Money can't buy happiness" is the same as the fable of The Fox and the Grapes.

The only way you can be happy with $75k is if that's more than your current income. People like pay increase. But pay cut is many times worse.

Someday you will understand what true happiness is…and then you will realize you were wrong.

Thanks for the suggestion. That looks nice. I might have to check it out. That's European plan hotel and not all inclusive, correct? Because I don't do all inclusive. I rather pick and choose where I dine and I feel you get much better service when you pay for things separately. I don't like the all-inclusive crowds and the party and drinking atmosphere at those places.
