While getting it all back is nice I prefer making enough money that I actually have to pay taxes.

So, instead of paying with cash (by not overpaying your taxes throughout the year), you took out risky loans. Play with snakes and you will eventually get bitten.

You enjoy giving the government an interest-free loan?

It isn't like you can earn any reasonable amount of interest income these days. The govt is holding rates at 0% so people don't hold onto money, so this is the environment to go out and spend.

well when something breaks, and you dont have the cash, i have no problem going out and getting 6 months same as cash. I learned my hard lesson in my early to mid 20's about fiscal responsibility. Paid off all my credit card debt a few years back and havent had one since.

Not everyone on ATOT is a millionare. sheesh.

you cant explain this to people who dont understand math or economics

believe me, ive tried

You can look down your nose at me all you want, some people just dont care. I like getting the fat wad back in March and sitting on it for the rest of the year. Trying to nickel and dime every dollar i can from the man isnt my priority. Ive got a lot of other things id rather do with my time and energy. Money isnt everything to some people.

i really want to kick people in the nuts when they get all smug and say this.
I agree.

Unless you are a financial genius, you cannot predict your exact tax situation for the next year.
It is better to have a small refund than a tax bill.

How much interest are you earning on that tax refund anyway? <$10???

On a $10k return, over the course of the year, you average having overpaid by about $5000. Well, since you don't get it back, usually until at least February or later, we'll say the average is $6000 overpaid. Let's see... how much interest are banks paying these days? Even at 2% (you're dreaming), that's all of $120 in interest you miss out on. And to the "you have that money to spend sooner" person - ahhh, living paycheck to paycheck, huh? Spend it as soon as you get it?
