I beg to differ... You can always make money in the stock market regardless of conditions, you DO have to know what you're buying and selling, and when.

That's almost the equivalent of saying: You can make money in the stock market if you make money in the stock market.

Knowing what to buy and when is the problem, not the answer.

A coworker friend would shock me at how much she would save. She showed me grocery receipts that were like $400 down to like $100 after coupons and discounts. She'll leave with an overfilled cart for $100. I'm the opposite, I go to the same place and get half a basket for $100.

where do you all get your coupons?

I don't... Maybe you mean geekbabe or the girl I was talking about (she uses paper coupons + discount cards)

What resources do you use to find your coupons? My wife and I are expecting our first boy in March, and we're looking for ways to cut back on spending so that she can at least stay home part time.

1. Your local sunday newspaper. That's the first place.
2. Ebay. You can purchase coupons.
3. Coupon swaps on various websites or coupon trains.

Other methods I know people have used:
- Develop a relationship with say, a local gas station. Come back Monday morning and ask for the supplements. The newspaper usually wants the actual paper back, but they don't care for the supplements.

I miss CVS, and I wish CVS would transform the Longs Drugs here in Northern California faster! I had to PAY for toothpaste the other day, and I thought I was going to cry after all the money I had made on toothpaste at CVS.

Toothbrushes too.

I sell WoW gold from time to time. I don't make a living out of it and the money is very little compared to my other stuff.

Shaw's market has been having tremendous deals going lately. I took a girlfriend of mine to the store.

my friend ended up spending $40 out of pocket over the course of 2 days, for her money she got

22 cans progresso soups
several progresso broths
8 ALL laundry soaps
20 boxes Green giant simply steam veggies
2 pizza's for one
4 Romano macaroni grill meal kits
a bunch of Knorr side dishes
5 loaves of whole grain, bakery day old bread
day old english muffins and pizza shell
2 pounds butter
1 gallon of milk
1 dozen eggs
a bunch of fresh produce
piles of pastini and whole grain pasta
and a bunch of ethnic food items and other things I don't remember

My favorite shopping score ? I got 13 NY sirloin strip steaks and a pile of porterhouse steaks for under $10.

I only buy 1 paper a week, friends will give me extra coupon inserts. What I prefer to do is to read my favorite couponing forum, I follow what's coming up for sales over the course of the next month. I can then trade for coupons for just the items I want, use a coupon clipping service or ebay.

CVS has been dull lately though there are some good deals coming up next week. The real hot spot for deals lately has been Shaw's supermarket.

That's insane. I always wonder what the time:$ saved is. Considering the stuff you mentioned is like $200+ for $40, I guess it's not too bad. I need a coupon card or something as I can't be bothered clipping or printing, but the irony is I will go out of my way for an electronics bargain. I'll spend 3 hours to save $20 on a DVD player or some crap lol. Total waste of time. Probably a guy thing. (I just bought a car ipod player for $15 and I don't even own a car... rofl. Gonna give it to a friend tho)

The steak deal, was that like "manager's special"? I always see stuff on sale with an expiration date tomorrow or something. I avoid that stuff.

The steak deal worked as follows... the store had a promo when you bought a scented oil warmer room freshener you got back a $4 coupon good for groceries. I had many coupons good for one free oil warmer room freshners. go to store, get room freshners, collect $4
grocery coupons, know the time of day that the butcher hauls out the manager's meat specials. That peelie sticker counts as a store coupon, which means that it can also be used with a manufacturer's coupon.. the $4 grocery coupons are manufactuer coupons
Buy many, many steaks with those grocery coupons

Manager's specials on meat can be a GREAT deal as long as you know how to select cuts of meat.

As for the time spent, I'd much rather hunt down coupons and plan shopping scenarios
from the comfort of my home instead of getting a second job.

Also on those 2 trips I made to the store to help my girlfriend learn to coupon I got the following

30 GG veggies
33 progresso soups
9 healthy choice soups
28 Hunts pasta sauces
28 hunt's diced tomatoes

6 ALL laundry soaps
10 Betty Crocker cookie mixes
5 BC brownie mixes
3 BC muffin mixes
6 BC Frosting mixes
4 BC roasted garlic mashed potatoes
12 Knorr's side dishes
9 hamburger helper
4 pillsbury cookie dough
6 packs oscar mayer jumbo hot dogs
1 hellman's mayo
1 wishbone dressing
3 pounds of Folgers
2 bottles wesson cannola oil
5 sugar free peter pan peanut butters
1 gallon of milk
2 loaves day old honey/oatmeal bread.

and last but not least... lol, 22 boxes of Swiss miss hot coco

my out of pocket cost was around $60, I maxed out the value of my time by helping my friend.. she in turn
will drive me home from work, saving me time and gas money

My wife and I do yard sales and estate sales on Saturday mornings as a hobby. We buy items to resell on eBay and Amazon. Overall it takes about 4 hours out of a Saturday, plus time listing on eBay, communicating with buyers, and shipping; maybe 15 hours or so a week for each of us. We both hold full-time jobs too. Last week we made $1700 on eBay, not including the shipping & handling fees. Maybe another $350 on Amazon. Last week was a better eBay week than normal because of a few big items on eBay. Normally we average between $3K-$4K+ a month. Decent money for a weekend hobby.

You need an infomercial spot on TV at 3AM.

I buy houses for pennies on the dollar- FREE and CLEAR!
Oh, look another gov. auction- a $150,000 house for $287- holy sh*!
My sis just bought the house next door- a $120,000 for $155- FREE and CLEAR!!!
For $.00 on the $$$!!!

I would very much like to know what you consider a hobby and how much your hobby cost. 1 of mine is racing. My son drives . Its not a money maker. Never will be its a hobby. But I spend right around $20,000 a year on average.

So if you could explain what you mean by hobby I could give you a money making subjestion . If you bought the same set up as my daughters. Hobby craft. Its about $17,000 to get started. But can be done cheaper . But also degrades craft income.

If spending that kind of $$ is OK say so. I will link to hobby craft setup. That makes good $$$. Don't want to waste your time. We also have a bigger unit that I bought befor I got sick . that does it all. Alot more $$$ x4-5 . But its not smart to use this on smaller projects.
