Most hobbies that produce something can be turned into a profit, especially if you are good at it, whether it be auto restoration (or any restoration), to knitting, to gold farming in an MMORPG lol...

I teach tennis. I used to do it more as a side business but it got too demanding and started to ruin my love for tennis and teaching. At $50/hour and a side effect of keeping you in shape, it's not bad. Meet lots of chicks too Actually you meet lots of people in general, often influential. Most tennis pros/teachers and golf pros can have some connections to influential people.

My neighbor buys and sells high-end sports cars as a hobby (like ferrarris, lamborghinis, etc). somehow he manages to have the hobby pay for itself so he can continuously buy and sell new cars. I don't think he really tries to make money, but it did pay for his 3rd house. it seems tiresome to me because he has to take these cars to shows and stuff, but I think he likes doing it.

If you're talking about 401K, then yes everybody took big hits, but that's because you didn't control it.

A coworker friend would shock me at how much she would save. She showed me grocery receipts that were like $400 down to like $100 after coupons and discounts. She'll leave with an overfilled cart for $100. I'm the opposite, I go to the same place and get half a basket for $100.

Ebay'ed for some time till they started sucking (more).

Computer repair & consulting for my wife's employer(s) and friends.

I also draw and paint and participate in group shows from time to time, howeer it's more of a hobby than something I profit at.
