I'm specifically looking for something for my LCD monitors (I have 5 here now). My ancient (bought in 1997) Huey never actually worked as well as it should have with my main LCD but since I've still got a few old crt's kicking around and had a fair amount of work new & old for reference I wasn't ever really troubled by it, I just always meant to upgrade and the years slipped by. My old method was just to affix the colorometer (colormeter?) in the center of the screen and let the software do its measurements, then dial the screen in as best as possible using the OSD before generating a profile. Now it's gotten to the point where I am thinking I need to rectify the tool I'm using so that I can get backup my output results with more just my 'best guess' (which has been ok considering my 12-14 yrs of experience).
My main monitor is the biggest concern as it's a Samsung 275t (S-PVA wide gamut) and I deal with a fair amount of sRBG/web work as well as cmyk & spot color work (hence wide gamut was a decent choice). My other monitors are all in ancillary roles here but it would be nice to have them somewhat calibrated as well so they can serve as reference for video & web work. I do NOT need to have them all match, it would just be nice to get around to making everything here more accurate.
What I see on the market so far:
Colorvision Spyder2 or 3 (not sure which models, need feedback on how these work in practice)
Pantone's offerings (they seem to repackage a wide variety of products with their own software, no idea here)
Eye-One Display 2 Standard
Huey Pro
What experiences have people had and what would they recommend?
