My CRT is contantly resising the screen. I set the vert and hor size in the monitors on-screen display, the aftre a while, or next time i turn in on it has resized so that the image runs off the screen, or worst, it flutters, contanly expanding and contracting the horitontal size.

ANY sugestions?

here are the pecs.
Monitor: Compaq p1220 CRT (diamontron)
VGA: Matrox G450

Windows 2000
AMD XP 1800

ThankYa

I had the same problem. So I spend a couple of days on the internet researching various LCD's, walked around in the stores, etc. In the end I decided to delay (another) LCD purchase still longer and send my monitor in for service. It's going to cost me around $60 just for the estimate, and we'll see what the real cost is going to be in the end. (My monitor was high end Sony, and for my needs, including gaming and photo editing, I think it still makes some sense.)

Repair CRT or buy a replacement or buy a LCD? Yes.

Edit: I use multiple inputs on my monitors, and saw the problems with multiple computers and not with other monitors, so was 100% sure that this was not a software or video card issue. Based on behaviour, I'm pretty sure that that's also the case for you, but I couldn't say 100%.

First, as mentioned above, you should try to isolate the problem and make sure it's not really the video card (or the VGA cable). Try the monitor on another PC, and/or try another monitor on this PC to see if the problem follows your monitor.

Assuming the problem is the monitor, the most likely cause for the symptoms you're seeing (changing picture size, or a 'wobbly' picture) is a bad power supply. That's usually not too bad to fix, but it will probably be in the $100-200 range. Unless you're really enamored with this monitor, you might just consider buying a new one (either another CRT or an LCD).

OP, I have a Mit 2060u NF and about 4 months ago MS installed a driver up-grade(?).
I lost a 1/4" all the way around. No fluttering but the display had a black border.
Solution? Driver roll back.

Everyone running a CRT should have this marked http://www.repairfaq.org/sam/crtfaq.htm

Madwand1, I have read that one of the more common problems with Sony CRTs is cold solder joints.
Do as Matthias99 suggests as is he calls good shots. If it is indeed your display a PM to me will be
replied to with a link or two reguarding your difficulty. It may not help but atleast there might be a why.

My estimate came back at $400+ and "might have to get some additional parts". Said that 3 circuit boards needed to be replaced. Moo. (Think I may be being milked.) Well, at this price, I'll call it a day for the CRT -- it earned its cost for the quality & service it gave, but really not worth putting in so much more money into an old product that is long past its best before date.

On to the LCD hunt. Cheap & inadequate, or expensive and less inadequate? (Hey, I paid for this cyncism with an early generation LCD.)

I had the same problem with my NEC Multisync FE991SB. It just got old and wore out, I tryed in on several computers and it did the exact same thing, luckiy it was still under warranty and all I payed for was about $35 for shipping. NEC fixed it, shipped it back...works like new.

I can't recommend an LCD, but I will recommend the Multisync FE2111SB which I'm using now. Great monitor, if you can still find it.

 Or this amazing thing

I had a Viewsonice CRT with a similar problem. The shaking and resizing got progressively worse.
One day the monitor started smoking and its dead now.
