Monitor Flickering - Power Problem?

I was hoping someone could help me with a problem I am having. I currently have a 24 inch LCD plugged into my wall. Attached to that is my Acer Laptop that is also plugged in. The monitor seems to flicker like crazy when I attach the laptop to the monitor, but once I unplug the laptop from the power source (only running on battery) - the flickering stops. Both the monitor and laptop have a 3 prong plug which leads me to believe that it is a grounding issue. Does anybody have any insight on the real cause and have any solutions on how to fix this? Would a high quality power strip solve this issue?

Test the wall outlet to ensure it is wired properly. Mainly, that the white neutral/continuity wire is hooked to the correct outlet spade lug (the largest one as I recall, but it will be identified by two screws on one side of the block to permit continuity for the white wire) & that the earth ground wire connects to the ground (third) terminal (ie, the chrome terminal on the outlet block). The hot wire (which will be red or black) goes to the single (stand alone) connector/screw.

Otherwise, sounds like you're getting too much ripple thru your notebook's power brick. Try taking out the battery then running the notebook on the external supply. You may want to try another brand of external power supply that provides a better quality of DC.

What kind of outlet are you talking about?

All normal duplex outlets found in 99% of homes have two brass terminals, two silver terminals, and one green terminal. Black wires go to the brass, white to the silver, green/bare ground to the green.

If you're not from the USA, well, you've got weird outlets in your country
